Hmm. (http://footer.mlblogs.com/2011/09/22/astros-reveal-50th-anniversary-logo-and-celebration-plans-for-2012/)
Seems no one consulted JackAstro.
-
I was expecting a typical modern, web 2.0 style logo that's stagnant and boring. This was a surprise.
-
Also, its going to be kind of shitty if they announce the move to the AL during the 50th season.
-
Flashback Fridays and Legends Weekend should be pretty cool.
-
I'm hoping they're going to win 50 games in their 50th year...
-
It looks like an old J.R. Richard uni...

At least there's no rabbit on it.

is there a fitted cap with that logo?
-
I like it. I also really hope Crane or whoever the new owner is somehow spins this into new uniforms, using the proper Astros colors, something like the 60's shooting-star unis or the 80's rainbow.

The article says items will be available in the Team store (including a cap) December 2011. Did you lose the one with the strawberries on it?

They were watermelons, dick!

doesnt anyone see this as a move to return to the retro rainbow range(rs al connection) and will become the official uni since more people wear them in the stands than the stripes..and has anyone thought how the yankees will react to another pinstripe in the league

I was thinking the same thing reading through the release. And that logo is pretty damn decent. They could have done a lot worse.
-
Over two days, saw about 5 different retro jerseys & a few more hats at the Cincy ball park, only one current Astros jersey and 2 hats. Saw several Lexington jerseys too (Bus Riders Representing)

Wha...shi...never mind.

gleach has it

The logo incorporates all previous Houston Astros logos and or color schemes but one. Which one is missing?

The late 90's navy and gold uniform?
Unless the gold line around the outside of the logo is supposed to represent that...
(I'm not including the Colt .45's.)

I think it's pretty good, especially the Shooting Star over the Rainbow Gut. They are definitely in "promote the brand mode" since they lack a face to put on it. Also will be a challenge to make-over Minute Maid Park since it was basically built around the current colors. Would love to see it though.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I'm not unhappy with the current colors. Navy/orange would be great, but if it's not coming back, I'm ok with brick/sand.

Brick and limestone go with anything, plus all of the steel is green and already doesn't match. It won't be any more difficult than any other team changing their colors/logo.

I'm fine with the current scheme/logo, as long as they ditch the godawful fucking pinstripes.

Yes.

Agreed. I much prefer the solid white with the red hats.
-
remember when the sand brick black came out how many combos they had including a black jersey

I'm sorry, I have to stop you there. The red hats? No, the red hats suck. So do the red shirts.
The current unis are tolerable, that's it. They're very safe. They also look like a whole lot of other teams, especially when the red hats or shirts are involved.
-
At first I thought the D-backs most recent uni looked too much like the our roadies. Until we switched to red caps, and looked just like them.
ETA: Not to mention the black hats already looked awesome with the road greys!

current uniforms (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_yl2Mm_2QbRI/TS8bm4cqvxI/AAAAAAAAAEM/GIP2z_ihsGU/s1600/HOU_2010.PNG)
As far as I'm concerned, the only ones necessary are the home whites and road grays. Except do away with the red hat.
-
Needs pinstripes.

Agree, but alt uni's are here to stay for revenue reasons. To be honest, the only ones I really like are the grays.

How come we never see horizontal pinstripes? Pin-hoops?
I think we're ignoring a vast universe of possibilities.

Maybe the rainbow gut was 70s pinstripes?

Makes their asses look fat.
