Title: Wednesday morning beer thread
Post by: das on August 31, 2011, 07:03:39 am
My favorite ale has finally made it to Maryland.  Had the first one last night.  That is all.

For fans of St. Arnolds Lawnmower, I picked up a sixer of Weedeater the Saturday. Same flavor, but a little stronger/fuller.

I saw it at the HEB over the weekend.  Isn't it a wheat?

Has anyone had the new Houston brewer (Karbach?)?

I'm hitting up the Galveston beer fest this weekend.  Looking forward to it

Speaking of Saint Arnold, they're going to be brewing Divine Reserve 11 year-round starting next year, according to their owner. (http://twitter.com/#!/brockwagner/status/105375174618124289)  Great news, because it's possibly my favorite beer of all time.

Why else would anyone be there?

I chose my words accordingly.

Or did you mean specifically this Saturday at Beer Fest?

Ha. I'm not a fan either, but glad you're able to enjoy something you like, das.

I didn't really dig on Weedwacker either.

You know where I live. Monday is brew day if you want to come over and work your ass off for a beer that won't be ready for two months.

It's Lawnmower Ale (a Kolsch) but they've substituted a hefeweizen yeast in place of the kolsch yeast.  That malt and hops have not changes.

Indeed, it's so very subjective.  I'm open-minded enough to understand that my strong like for Fat Tire may be colored by its association with good times when I had easy access to it.

That said, I'll be over in Bavaria in mid-November and am just smart enought to know that the sludge from the bottom of the Oktoberfest barrels will be better than anything the New Belgium Brewing Co. is likely to produce...

Is Karbach available in stores yet?  I've sampled it at Pappas steakhouse and Queen Vic but have yet to see it on the shelf.

Spoke to the brewmaster a couple weeks ago, and they're going to start canning (not bottling) around January.

I had the New Belgium Belgo last week at the Saucer and thought it was solid, if unspectacular. I did not like their Trippel.

Sitting in my room in Turkey enjoying an Efes.  It's not very good - but the best you get in Turkey and the  military has a habit of buying beer that's about two weeks from it's "drink me by" date.  Wish I was in Texas.

Saloo.
