Why would anybody trade for a .273 avg and .369 slg (15 2B, 3 HR, at Wrigley no less) at whatever the pro-rated portion of $13.5MM is? That's insane.

Every time I hear of or see Fukudome, I think of the SI cover.  It's hard to believe the Cubs would let him go before he ended their 100 year drought.

.374 OBP is nothing to sneeze at.

No, but that .369 SLG isn't real spicy either.

Apparently the Cubs are going to pick up some of his salary, so I guess he's a warm body. But giving up two prospects for the privilege of trotting that out in RF? Meh.

I was just looking at the standings, and I didn't realize the Indians are still in it (2 games behind DET), so I guess they've got to try something while they wait for Sizemore and Choo to get healthy.

But the really interesting tidbit in the standings is that PHI has nearly twice as many wins (65) as the Astros (34). That's pretty impressive/sickening.

But not surprising.

DoRay were yammering last night about the Brewers having more home wins than the Astros have in overall wins.

I don't even want to check to see if Jose Bautista has more HR than the Astros. (I'm sure he doesn't, but it's probably embarrassingly close.)

JD mentioned it as well last night.

And in other news, ALTUVE! That is all.

I wonder if in Bonds' or McGwire's best HR seasons they ever managed half of the worst HR team in baseball.
I'm actually a little surprised the Astros have that many. What does their cleanup hitter have, 8?

The year that Bonds hit 73, the Expos had a total of 131 and the Mets had 147.  The year McGwire hit 70, the Pirates hit only 107, the Marlins 114, the Phillies 126 and the Mets 136.

The year Babe Ruth hit 60, he hit more than every team.  The closest was the A's, who hit 56 combined.

In 1979, the Astros had 49 and Dave Kingman had 48.

That's about when they switched the Foamer trigger from Astro home runs to designated opposition strikeouts.

They stole 200 bases instead.  That was a damn good team.

I read somewhere recently that the Astros roughly 1977-1987 were perhaps the greatest symbiosis of offensive approach and home stadium in baeball history.  I am sure Yankee fans would disagree.

The definition of dominance.

I hate to say it, but you've got to wonder what might make it possible for one man to hit more home runs than any team.

And take a look at the 4 College Football programs they were highlighting in 2008.
