Weeks Ks; Gomez Ks; Braun works count full before 2B to LF; Fielder 3-1 on a nice play by Lee. 0- Bottom 1
-
Bourn K; Bourgeois infield 1B to 2B SB to 2B SB to 3B; Sanchez BB to 3B; Pence E5 RBI to 2B; Lee the what is becoming usual P6; CJ F9 to track. 1-0 Top 2
-
I'm really liking Bourgeois. Doesn't have Bourn's pure speed, but seems to be a bit better baserunner than Bourn. Johnson put a ride on one as well, just not quite enough cheeseburgers behind it... His average is complete ass, but he has hit the ball a ton better than his average would indicate.
-
Back after dinner break. Towles BB; Barmes P4; Wandy SAC 2-4; Bourn L9 on a great play by Hart. 1-0 Top 3
-
Nieve F7; Wolf 1B to RF to 2B; Weeks 1B to CF; Gomez F7; Braun F7. 1-0 Bottom 3
-
Did "baggy" just say to keep him honest by throwing one at his neck or did I mishear that?
-
That was a brief dinner break, Mr. Happy. Hungry Man Turkey Dinner or Night Hawk Steak 'n Taters?
-
Patty has got a little bedonk
-

Something like that. Question was regarding what can you do with a hitter that is in the groove as much as Braun has been. In fairness, it was typical Bagwell 'snark,' but there was a smidge of seriousness to it...
-
Bourgeois 6-3; Sanchez infield 1B to 1; Pence F7; Lee 3F Unfuckingbelievable. 1-0 Top 4
-

Self grilled hamburger with jalapeno cheese, crispy bacon, pickles, grilled onions and home grown lettuce on a hot bun.
-
Bagwell made a little dig on Pence, pointing out thatr he took one right down main street and then swang at a pitch above his neck.
-
Fielder F7; McGehee F8; Hart 1B to RF; Betancourt FC 6-4. 1-0 Bottom 4
-
Did "baggy" just say to keep him honest by throwing one at his neck...
Yes.
-
Patty has got a little bedonk
Yes.
-
CJ F8; Towles 2B to LF; Barmes F9; Wandy 4-3. 1-0 Top 5
-
If I didn't know better I'd say that it actually looks like there are people in some of the seats but I know that can't be right.
-
Nieves 3-1 on a beautiful play by Lee; Wolf Ks; Weeks works count full before 6-3. 1-0 Bottom 5
-
Barmes has a pretty nice gun with a quick trigger.
-
All right Boojwah!
-
Barmes has a pretty nice gun with a quick trigger.
Barmes is real solid out there. The days of watching the SS boot easy balls are over. So are the days of the SS hitting anywhere over .200. I like tonight's middle infield as a nice compromise.
-
Bourn L6; Bourgeois 2B to LF; Sanchez Ks; Pence works count full before Ks. 1-0 Top 6

Yeah, but we're supposed to see 15-20 HRs from SS, right?
Right?
-
I don't think the Giants were playing the Brewers in 1961.
-
Yeah, but we're supposed to see 15-20 HRs from SS, right?
Right?
AND second base. AND 90 RBI from each.
-
AND second base. AND 90 RBI from each.
Man, that is going to be some second half surge.
-
Someone needs to loosen up The Peen.
-
Nice play, Barmes.
-
Gomez 1-3; Braun 2b to LF to 3B ; Fielder 6-3; McGehee Ks. 1-0 Bottom 6
-
That was that Biblical shit where Wandy turned McGeeHeeHee's bat into a serpent. Cool.
-
If Carlos could hit he'd be a wonderful AL first baseman.
-

A man after my own taste buds.

Barmes has a pretty nice gun with a quick trigger.
Should Mrs. Brand start worrying now?

I hope not.

Izzat a gaggle of Bushes I see behind the plate? The huzband seems to think the brothers are visiting Ma and Pa, but I'm too comfy to go closer to the screen to check.
-
Lee L8; CJ 6-3; Towles L8. 1-0 Top 7
-
I hope not.
So I take it then that you meant as a comment of admiration, rather than wanton desire. Thanks for clarifying!
-
Yep, looks like the dynasty is well represented in the good seats. Drayton's still not showing his face though.
-
So I take it then that you meant as a comment of admiration, rather than wanton desire. Thanks for clarifying!
Uh, you would be correct. I'd qualify the amount and style of admiration as well. I'll save it for the Footer post-game report.
-
Hart Ks; Betancourt 5-3; Nieves L4. 1-0 Bottom 7
-
Barmes F7 to track; Wandy 2-3; Bourn K. 1-0 Top 8

Wolf really knows how to pitch to the Astros, doesn't he? Comes right at them, breaking balls for strikes. None of this nibbling off-the-plate stuff. He mixes it up so well that these guys are lost.
-
I'm really enjoying the banter between JD and Baggy tonight. I couldn't hit for shit. But we had the DH, so I was saved.

So true. At least two seven pitch innings. Just goes to show what kind of command Wolf has tonight.
-
Why'd they have to send the Wolf, anyway? He thinks fast, he talks fast, he pitches... fast...
-

He drives real fuckin' fast too, so keep up.
-
There's really no reason to get Abad up in the pen, is there? IBB from a lefty, maybe?
-
Man, I like that Boojwah/Bourn OF combo.
-
Damn. Gotta get this out.
-
Oh my. What a gift.
-
pence-like
-
Boggs PH for Wolf works count full before Ks; Weeks F7; Gomez works count full before 2B to LCF but out 8-6-5 on a Penceian stupid move. Take the bat out of Peen's hands. Smart. Not!
-
pence-like
Pencerrific.
-
Peen is obviously going to homer next inning so another run or two right here would be swell.
-
That was a fortunate call!
-
You WALK Lee to get to CJ?
-
Pssst. CJ. Hawkins throws a straight fastball.
-
Nuts. It was there for the taking.
-
Hawkins on to pitch. Bourgeois 6-3; Sanchez 4-3; Pence infield hit to 2B E4 to 2B on a stupid throw by Weeks; Lee IBB on a gift; CJ takes count full before 1-6-3. 1-0 Bottom 9 For the record, I don't like our chances against Braun, Fielder and McGehee with Lyon.
-
Time for a Tums.
-
+2
-
Fuck it. Give me the whole roll.
-
Imagine that. Boos.
-
At least we know with Lyon in the game, it's almost over.
-
Braun F9; Fielder HR to RF; McGehee 1B to LF; Hart FC 5-4; Betancourt L5. 1-1 Bottom 9
-
At dinner. Checked in to make sure we held it down.
Fuck you, Lyon.
-
At least we know with Lyon in the game, it's almost over.
You're a "glass is half full" kinda guy, aren't you?
-
Ok. Game's on the line. Who do you want pitching?
2000 Billy Wagner
2000 Jose Lima
1994 Mitch Williams
2011 Brandon Lyon
I'll hang up and listen.
-
Not really anyone available to run for Wallace.
-
Not really anyone available to run for Wallace.
I spoke too soon. Hall in to run for Wallace.
-
I can't really say I'm Brandon Lyon's biggest fan. Nor am I all that wild about the fact that Mills keeps running him out there pretending he's a closer. Just because your dumbfuck GM gave the guy an unnecessarily large contract does not mean you have to use him as a closer.
-
ASTROS WIN! ASTROS WIN!
-
nice win!
-
nice win.
glad mr. wallace is good to go tomorrow.
-
Counsell to 6; Loe on to pitch. Towles 3F on first fucking pitch-give me a fucking break; Bogusevic PH for Barmes 4-3; Wallace PH for Lyon BB to 2B Hall PR for Wallace; Bourn BB; Bourgeois 1B to LF RBI BALLGAME!
-
Winning pitcher, Brandon Lyon.
-
I wouldn't be unhappy with Bourgeois in left field for awhile, not that it's any of my business.
-
Bourgeois is fun to watch!!!
-

Very much so.
-
Lyon leads the team in wins with 3, all coming after blown saves.
-
I think Lima. At least it was fun watching him talk to his glove.
-
I miss Jose Lima.
-
I miss Jose Lima.
So do I.
-
I love Bourgeois. Lee better be off tomorrow.

This is called vulturing.

And lo, a new nickname was born.

So do I.
He was the perfect antidote to a Bagwell and Biggio led club. Antidote is probably the wrong word. He provided some comic equilibrium that while sometimes annoying was probably well needed overall. Bagwell and Biggio were stoic cliche factories, two guys whose baseball accomplishments I could not respect more. Lima brought fruitcake to the party.
It will be an enduring sports disappointment for me that those late 90s teams never made it to the World Series. Not only were they very good teams, especially 98's team, but they were intensely likable. A miracle could strike and this year's team could catapult to the WS and I'd still be pissed at Pence and Lyon.

Joe Posnanski in SI recently listed the highest lifetime ERAs for pitchers over 125 innings. Lima and Scott Elarton were 4 and 5.
Wandy's line is pretty nice tonight, but didn't see any comments.

Wandy was very impressive tonight.
