Berman reporting former Cougar LHP Wes Musick is one of the prospects.  Before signing with the Rockies, Musick was first selected by the Astros in the 46th round in 2005.

has looked decent in two professional seasons.
3-0 with 31 K's in 25.1 IP in 2009.
8-7 with 109 K's and 1.25 WHIP in 2010.

His draft information should be buried somewhere in the archives of the main page.

He was drafted in the 9th round by COL.  Should be set for AA this year.

jonnathan aristil

bounced around in 2010, seeing 1 game at AAA.

Doesn't seem like much of a return. I wonder if they're still concerned about his back.

Was this just a salary dump?

dump seems like an appropriate thing to say about what is going on with the astros

I dunno.  At the end of the day, 1 decent year of Lindstrom and a positive change in prospects (IMO I think the Astros come out ahead when comparing the prospects they just got and those they gave to Florida to get Lindstrom) is not a bad deal.

They have closer depth with Lyon and Melancoln (sp), so why not get some farmhands?

BA's scouting report on Musick

Quote
Musick has an easy scouting report as a classic lefthander with excellent secondary stuff and a fringy fastball. Musick has a long medical history, as he had both knee surgery to repair a torn ACL and Tommy John surgery when he was in college at Houston. Musick was drafted three times—high school by the Astros in 2005, as well as 2008 and 2009—because of his feel for a curveball and an excellent changeups, which scouts rate as a plus pitch. His fastball has average velocity at 88-91 mph, and he pitched off it more in 2010, which may be why he was hit harder than a 23-year-old in the Sally League should be. The Astros have drafted mostly high school pitchers, and Musick could jump a level up to Double-A in his new organization's young farm system.

Not a blue-chipper by any means, but can always hope he turns into a Wandy clone.

I'm still holding out hope that they're trying to clear enough payroll to take on Webb.  Kepp would be next to go.

Wes had TJ surgery after his senior season in High School.  Redshirted at UH, put up good numbers as a RS Freshman, ok numbers as a Sophomore and pretty crappy numbers as a junior before being drafted.

Well at that rate he should be real shitty by the time he gets to Minute Maid

I believe in Santa Claus a whole hell of a lot more than I believe in Brandon Webb.

Are you actively trying to ruin one of the new actual baseball threads on this board, or is this just SOP?

In other news, Webb signed with the Rangers, $3M plus incentives that could bring it to $8-$10M.

Sounds like we traded a useful bullpen arm at a decent price for two second-rate prospects.

I wonder if Lindstrom's second half fade wasn't more than just dead arm

According to an MLB source (via Justice tweet), 20-25 potential buyers have asked to see the books.  Guess that's something.

Some folks must have got a big Christmas bonus cause a couple of weeks ago, I read that no one had shown interest.  Maybe "justice tweet" explains the discrepancy.

Add in Melancon gets his shot and you get a pretty good idea how Lindstrom became expendable, especially if you're going to have to pay others, like Wandy, this season.  If Lindstrom is damage goods with his back (and back injuries have funny ways of working out, see Spiers, The Great Billy).  I think Melancon is the more exciting angle to this whole deal as it where.

Excellent points. The rumor that the Astros were putting Lindstrom and Keppinger on the block came out weeks ago, so presumably Wade had plenty of calls made, and for whatever reason the Rockies' offer was the best one. I think we're bummed to a certain extent because we remember the great first half Lindstrom had, but then again that was what, 25 innings? And he hasn't done a whole lot else really in his career, despite the great FB, so... there you go.

Who knows?  But, it doesn't say that 20-25 groups have asked, so could be a few large groups who have asked.

The back, is the reason I heard they wanted to move him.
