Per Footer (via Twitter):
Changes in the front office: Ricky Bennett moves from Asst. GM and Dir. of Player Development to Director of Professional Scouting. Fred Nelson moves from Director of Professional Scouting to Director of Player Development. Astros also announced they will not renew contracts of Britt Burns (minor league pitching coordinator), Marc Bombard (AAA manager), Wes Clements (AA manager), Pete Fagan (minor league medical coordinator) and Pete Rancont (minor league coach).

That's bullshit.

Which move(s)?

Which move(s)?
I don't know. I need people to explain these things to me.
I have actually heard of Rickey Bennett.
-
Are the branches of scouting "professional" and "amateur"?
What is the hiearchy (or is there one) between player development and professional scouting?

yes
no--any type of scouting is totally separate from development

Hate to see Rancott go. I thought he did a good job with players. I am going to be more interested in who they bring into those slots.

McTaggart notes that Glen Barker is moving on. LINK (http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100909&content_id=14487250&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou)
"Also, Wade said Glen Barker, who's spent the last two years as director of Pacific Rim scouting, has taken a position as Minor League outfield/baserunning coordinator with the San Diego Padres."

"Also, Wade said Glen Barker... has taken a position as ...baserunning coordinator "
Is this not the same Glen Barker who was famously described as "what did my little league coach tell me about last out at third, oh screw it, feets don't fail me now"?

He's perfect: he knows every mistake that can be made.

...so does that mean they're hiring?
Psst, Ed. I'm in China. Give me a call.

And... Sean Berry won't be taking a spot within the organization next year. He's headed to San Diego as well to act as their Minor League hitting coordinator. Huh, I didn't realize Berry was offered a managing gig in the minors. I wish he'd stayed, but I'm sure he made the best decision for himself. I wish him well.

In a Statesman piece last week, Bombard was quoted to the effect that he "did the best with what I had to work with." He may be 100% correct in that statement but that's not highly endearing for an employer to hear. Maybe he already knew he wasn't going to be retained.

He was born is So Cal...right?

...and was immediately picked off.

He'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

You're gonna look pretty stupid coaching baserunning with your shoelaces untied.

this all (Barker) reminds me of Chuckie Carr for some reason.
"That ain't Chucky's game. Chucky hacks on 3 and 0".

I think the actual quote was "Chucky be hackin'."
