Bottom 2:
Lee grounds first pitch, 4-3.
Johnson hits it hard (of course), but to CF, 2 down.
Wallace foul tips for the K.

Wives' Gala on the field tomorrow night.  You normally have to pay extra for that kind of action, Cotton.

Top 3:
Ankiel pops meekly to Johnson, just into foul ground.
Hanson K's quickly
Infante grounds 5-3.

The Search for Bo continues.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010

Bottom 3:

Sanchez looks like he has a good idea to go the other way, but it's a meek 4-3 grounder.
Castro then grounds harder 4-3.
Wandy has the best damn AB of the day, but strikes out.

Bottom 3:

Sanchez looks like he has a good idea to go the other way, but it's a meek 4-3 grounder.

I can't find anything in either's history, particularly scout info, to suggest that Sanchez isn't the better overall player than Manzella.

I think "take your 3 week rehab to work on your new swing" translates to "you've been Pipped".

I think "take your 3 week rehab to work on your new swing" translates to "you've been Pipped".

Sanchez's injury history is the only big red flag on him.

Top 4:

Cabrera pops down the LF to Lee, 1 down.
Gonzalez K's.
Diaz grounds 6-3.  8 pitch inning for Wandy.

Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:05:14 pm
Bottom 4:

Bourn lines one off the mound (replay: pitcher's foot), Hanson can't find it in time.  Single for Bourn.
Hanson completely preoccupied by Bourn.  Bourn steals 2b.
Bourn picked of 2b when he goes on first move; Braves drop the ball on rundown, Bourn back to 2b.
Bourn promptly steals 3b.  Conrad and Cox disagree.
Kepp walks.
Pence singles up the middle, scoring Bourn, Kepp to 2b.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:07:53 pm
Bottom 4, cont'd: 1-1 game

1st and 2nd, no out
Lee battling on a 1-2 count.  Taeks ball 2, then flies to LCF.  LF moving away, so Kepp takes 3b on the tag up.
Johnson K's swinging because they were highlighting his stats.
Wallace on 0-2 grounds up the middle, Infante and Gonzalez pull some fancy bullshit for the force that almost cost the Braves a run.

End 4, 1-1.

Bourn took off for third on first move, Hanson wheeled and fired to third.  Third throw of the rundown, Hanson drops the ball covering 3b, Bourn sprints back to 2b and easily beats the tag.

I was certain Bourn got caught in a rundown, and dang if the Bravos didn't drop the ball at 3B, allowing him to scoot back. Then he immediately stole 3rd. Big Bad Bobby believed he was out, but of course, he wasn't.

A 2-out dribbler, followed by a walk, followed by a single by the pitcher? WTF? What did we say to the BBGs to get them all pissed off?
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:25:49 pm
Top 5:

Glaus K swinging.  Can't believe he's in this game.  Can barely move.
Ross K swinging.
Conrad gets a Squibbler down 3b line.  Marmot not included.  Johnson slow to get there and can't beat Conrad.
Ankiel walks.
2 balls to Hanson, Wandy has lost the plate all of a sudden.  Castro out to talk.
Hanson hits a high bouncer over Johnson's head, Contrad scores, Ankiel to 3b.
Infante K's swinging.

2-1 Braves.

Blame Wandy for losing the strike zone.  Walks to the 8 hitter will invariably bite you in the ass.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:31:23 pm
Bottom 5:

Gonzalez puts a rocket up his ass to rob Sanchez on a liner.  Even Angel Sanchez respects that.
Castro fouls to Conrad by the rail.
Wandy bounces 6-3.

End 5:
ATL 2-3-1
HOU 1-2-0
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010

So Atlanta has 7 errors (so far) in this series, and they're on their way to winning 2 out of 3? That just ain't right!
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:39:57 pm
Top 6:

Caberera (a Brave) strikes out swinging.
Gonzalez grounds 6-3.
Diaz splits the RCF gap for a double.
Glaus flies to CF, short of track.

Mid 6, 2-1 Braves.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 02:45:40 pm
Bottom 6:

Bourn bounces to pitcher.  Throw wide, Glaus fields it and brushes with Bourn.
Mills out for some reason.
Kepp flies to LF.
Pence flies to RF wall.

End 6, 2-1.

I was certain Bourn got caught in a rundown, and dang if the Bravos didn't drop the ball at 3B, allowing him to scoot back. Then he immediately stole 3rd.

I wonder how Chris Carpenter would have reacted if that had happened to him.  He gets pissy if Bourn takes an aggressive lead off the base.

Top 7:
Ross leads off with a double to RF wall.
Conrad flies to RF.
Wandy over 100 pitches.
Ankiel K swinging.
Hanson dribbler between 3b and mound, Wandy races over and makes the play.

Stretch time.  2-1 Braves.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 03:03:05 pm
Bottom 7:

Lee bounces so slowly to SS that he almost has a chance to beat the throw, but no dice.
Johnson walks after starting to first on strike 2.
Wallace pops to Glaus near the dugout.
Sanchez grounds to Infante, inning over.

End 7, still 2-1.

Lopez in for Wandy.
Middle aged guy in orange throwback cap holds up "Where's Your Girlfriend?" cardboard sign.  Creepiness: extreme.
Infante bounces 5-3.
Cabrera bounces 4-3.
MM begs Brown, Patti, et al to shutthefuckupalready about Bo and Sarah.
Gonzalez pops to Lee, easy inning for Wilton.

Mid 8, still 2-1.
Title: Re: Cox's Suckers at Astros, 8/11/2010
Post by: MusicMan on August 11, 2010, 03:19:38 pm
Bottom 8:

Accidentally navigated away, lost all pithy comments.
Vetters in, 6-3 grounder for Bourgeois (PH for Castro).
Michaels (PH for Lopez) walks.
Bourn nearly beaned, then looks terrible on a strikeout.
Kepp bounces... stop me if you've heard this... 6-3.

End 8, 2-1.

Bourn took off for third on first move, Hanson wheeled and fired to third.  Third throw of the rundown, Hanson drops the ball covering 3b, Bourn sprints back to 2b and easily beats the tag.

I didn't see it, but if he wheeled and fired to 3B, that's a balk.  He has to wheel to 2B, stop, then fire to 3B.  You can't make a pickoff throw to an unoccupied base.  I'm assuming he did the latter?
