For some reason, maybe it's his grizzled veteran-like demeanor, I thought he was at least pushing mid-30's. Sign the man to a multi-year extension! With he and Wandy, the middle of the rotation might just be pretty solid for a little while. Now all we need to do is find _____ more guys who can pitch.

And J.A. If this team is in contention in 3 years, they could all be in their prime.

Four. Wandy, Norris, Paulino, Wright, Lyles. That's five. What else do you need?

I don't see Norris sticking around. Paulino yes but he needs to stay healthy. Wright's still got some work to do. I've never seen Lyles pitch so I'll take people's word for him.
But Myers, Wandy, Lyles, Happ, and anybody else who steps forward isn't bad. There's no clear ace there, but that's a credible pitching staff. Go Wade go!

He could be an asset out of the bullpen if the rotation doesn't work out for him.

If Paulino could stay healthy I would put him with those four. He has a higher ceiling than any of them.

Norris is looking like a middle reliever to me, but if he masters getting his pitch count down, he could be a really good starting pitcher, as we've seen against the Turdinals. I agree, though, that Paulino has a very high ceiling.

footer reports that the extension is done:
The Astros have signed Brett Myers to a contract extension through 2013. The contract is guaranteed for 2011 and 2012 & carries a 2013 club option that could become vested through Myers’ 2012 performance. The 2-yr guaranteed value, incl. buyout on option yr, guarantees $21 mill. If the contract carries through '13, it will guarantee $28 mill. The pact also contains additional performance bonus potential that could raise the total value to $29.5 million.

Well at least things didn't get dragged out.
