The journey into the rebuilding void moves into day 2
Not to beat a dead horse, but the Astros really should wear these unis for every home game.
-
Dave Bush is a slop-throwing righty that always seems to pwn the Astros. Let's hope the new meat can reverse that trend.

I thought this as well. However, he has only posted a 4.27 ERA against the Astros over the last 3 years, and the stros hit .291 against. I won't mention that Bush is 4-1 over that period against the hometown club.
-
Hmm, that's what happens when I go from my addled memory. Record aside, I seem to remember being at a couple games where Bush just completely shut them down.
-
All right. Nice inning.
I'm totally on board with Brett Wallace. I hope he's the next Lou Gehrig. But when I saw him, I was surprised. All I could think of was, "What if Larry Mondello grew up to play first base?"
-
Wallace's ass is as big as Richard Hidalgo's. That's the biggest backyard in town.

Wallace, however, sports a raucous jew-fro

Thighs that dwarf Earl Campbell's. JD said you could feed a family for a week on one of his legs.

"Everybody knows breaking up is so very hard to do. . . " (Bill Brown)
If he starts reminiscing about his past loves now, I'm suing.

I suggest "Drumstick" as an early nickname possibility.

"Brick Shithouse" if he hits.

C.J. layin' it down again!
-
Brown is in fine form tonight.

And the semi-obscure cultural references just keep on coming.

did y'all hear/read that Roy singled to RF except that the RFer threw him out at first?

lollygagger

Hadn't heard that. That'll make friends with your new teammates.

i think this pretty much sums up roy's night last night

On the other hand, that's the most I've seen him look like he cared all season.
-
can someone summarize the first 4 runs, please. i missed them.
-
Looks like the 'Stros figured out how to push, push, in the Bush...

I was at the game last night. It was a great throw by Bernadina.

The play is on mlb.com. I couldn't find a good way to link it. The RF was playing shallow and Oswalt hit it pretty hard.

RFers should not throw anyone out on a ground ball to them.

Correct.

this might be it.

Please no Bourn's Cougars.
-
Oh good, the "Tex message" commercial guy is back. I was hoping he got sent to a Turkish prison or something...
-
Pence is still swinging at that off-the-plate slider. Sheesh. Come on Bagwell. Talk some sense into him.
-
Wallace reaches base for the first time! YAH!
-
I like this team.
-
I like this team.
They do seem pretty loose, don't they? Well, Wallace is kinda pressing, but it's nice to get some runs early, especially when Wandy's on the mound.
-
Someone stop CJ!
-
Jim, I can't summarize the runs for you but there were a couple or three instances of going to right with pitches and getting some good at-bats. Bush was just off the plate with most of his pitches and that made him have to come in more than he wanted to. He didn't look like he had much control tonight.
-
I like this team.
me, too. i like keeping Myers, too. you need some vets.
-
Score/inning por favor?
-
6-0 astros, bottom of the 6th

You're absolutely right on all scores.

I was just thinking about that. Blum, Feliz, Michaels, all guys who seem like they can mentor younger players. Had the Astros been able to do a Randy Johnson sort of deal for Myers then count me in. If not, then extending him like they appear poised to do is surely the best possible outcome.
They may be a couple of years from competing for anything but for me as a fan this is a lot more fun than what we saw in April and May.

Thanks.

Can't keep Michaels out of the lineup...

My wife just said that El Caballo can take all of the days off.

i like Lee, but you cannot have Lee, Berkman and Wallace.

Lee has a full no-trade too, doesn't he?

And between lee and berkman, who would drayton want more, and who would be willing to accept a reduced role?
-

Not this offseason, bit his contract is untradeable.

The Astros ate a lot of salary this year. Would they be as willing to pay someone to take Lee off their hands, then also pay Berkman millions to come back? Doesn't seem likely.

I can't stand Byrdak. He's making a mess.

Byrdak isn't all that bad. I understand that you can't stand him, but I don't think he's all that bad.
-
Two shutout wins in a row!
-
I'm with chuck. This team is a helluva a lot more fun to watch than the Opening Day team.
-
is wandy a little more sidearm in reference to his usual arm slot?
-
Two shutout wins in a row!
And the Brewers are not a bad team at all, offensively, anyway. They have plenty of dangerous hitters.

you are wrong.

you are wrong.
The stats agree with me. Right handed hitters are hitting well over .300 against him. He left tonight's game with the bases loaded and one out. Great job, Jim, don't you think?

I would say that he needs to be used only as a left specialist, but they're hitting .271 against him this year (righties .340). However, from 2007-2009 lefties did not hit over .200 in any year.

i'll take him on my team.

Fine with me.
