Why would criminal charges even be mentioned?  If it's not child porn, who cares?

Some in the class may have been minors.

That is what I was thinking.  Someone reported it, so it bothered someone.

Oh.  So you can't show porn to minors?  Good to know.

obvious question:  was he looking at porn porn or just something that might carry a NSFW tag.  if it was the former, ha ha ha!  what an idiot!  if it was the latter, give him his reprimand and move on.

Good point.  If it was some obnoxious email forward, like Judge Kozinsky in the Ninth Circuit, it really is an amazing non-story.

It's Lubbock; they'll find something to charge him with. This crisis will also require a stern, somber apology from Kent Hance, faith-based crisis counseling for every student in the distance learning program, and emergency committee meetings at every church in town. They may even need to fly in Lubbock's nutbar congressman for some serious institutional tut-tut-tutting.

this sort of activity will get you fired by many private employers and by most ISDs. it is called violation of the acceptable use policy if nothing else.

Yep, basically the best way to get fired at my old education job, which was very lax about a lot of other things.  Dude, you're an eminent professor and you make boatloads of money, the Jet-Screamin' Hootie Queens can wait until you get home.

There's a lot of that going around these days.
