Pulled over for a dee-wee and the coach's pronounced punishment is missing the Rice game, a fantastically well-attended practice?

We’ve talked to Vondrell and his family and decided , as of now, he will miss at least the first game next season and will be working with the scout team until he is eligible to play.
Sergio Kindle got a 3-game suspension for DWI in 2007.
-
So if you repeat the 3-game thing, that'd be Rice and Wyoming in Austin and Tech in Lubbock. Poor little Rice and Wyoming.

"...after he was pulled over for driving without his headlights"
talk about kids not getting it. texas cops will pull you over 100000000000000 out of 1000000 times if you do this. hell, i don't know how many times i obsessively studied my license plate lights while i was living in texas for fear they were somehow out but i wasn't picking up on it.

So what do you think is an appropriate punishment?

Removal from the team, obviously.
I think Mack lost some tolerance for this kind of stuff during the offseason of arrests ('07). McGee will probably serve the 1-game suspension regardless, and may get 1-2 more games added on depending on the conclusion of the legal process.
A few recent suspensions for arrests:
D.J. Monroe ('09 DWI) - three games (KU, @TAMU, B12 CCG), charges eventually dropped, reinstated for MNC game.
Marcus Davis ('09 DWI & controlled substance) - suspended indefinitely (B12 CCG, MNC), transferred.
Lamarr Houston ('08 DWI) - one game (UTEP)
Henry Melton ('07 DWI) - three games (Ark State, TCU, @UCF)
Sergio Kindle ('07 DWI) - three games (Ark State, TCU, @UCF)

excuse me. the RB is question will not play all year, suspension or no suspension, just as he did not play AT ALL the last half of last season.
i suspect that Mr. Dumbass may be finished.
-
He sure as hell picked the wrong season to screw up in. If you're being generous he's tied for #2 in the rotation but he's staring #4 in the face and they've got a serious crop on the way. Dumbass.

Bingo. He just moved to scout team on a 6-deep RB rotation. People are missing out on that part of the punishment.

they should pull people over for this in every state.

Enforcing the law requiring you to use your headlights when operating a motor vehicle is not harrassment.

Oh please god no, not this shit again.
(Not you Hudson, just the whole debate)

I keep it real, yo. No front license plate for me.
Of course, I also go rollin in my 5.0 with the ragtop down so my hair can blow.

that's not what i was talking about. i'm talking about texas cops pulling you over because your rear license plate light "appears dim" or any other number of other similar reasons for a police officer to get in your car.

Lots of harrassment in Connecticut would be good. Rhode Island, too. Pissant bastards.

And if Limeyland suddenly said "we want New Jersey back", I wouldn't put up a fuss.

I was just a lad and running with a twopence in my hand,
Into the tube stop to pick up The Sun for my dear dad.
I'd sit in his lap in that big old Rolls and steer as we drove through the hamlets...

That's an appropriate punishment. I did miss out on that. I don't know anything about the guy or how vital he is to the team, but a mistake like that should warrant missing important games.
I know every game is important and should be treated as such, but let's face it- UT is almost assuredly going to pummel Rice and Wyoming far into the ground, and the Horns aren't going to take those games as seriously as they would, say, Tech.

no, that is not how it works. decide the number of games, and it starts when the season starts. Vondrell was not going to play much, if at all.

To Jim's point, he wasn't likely to play much anyway. That said, many of these guys are trying to set themselves up to be drafted into the NFL. They certainly do not want to miss any games, especially ones where there may be an opportunity to showcase their skills with a large number of carries, snaps, etc.
The team may be better off with a player missing one of these earlier games (and that's clearly not their intent), but the player is not. Who are you trying to punish, the player or the team?
-
I know it isn't your point, but in Vondrell's case if he couldn't separate among UT's backs the last two years, he's not going anywhere but to the Tastee Freeze.
-
And if Limeyland suddenly said "we want New Jersey back", I wouldn't put up a fuss.
You're saying this is a real possibility, right? Right?

'driving without headlights.' not his license plate light.

I know how it works. I guess I just think that a punishment (like missing "important" games) needs to hammer the point home. I'm sure I'm explaining myself very poorly, and I'm sorry about that.
I'm sure that whatever the coaching staff comes up with will be fair and appropriate, and any other resulting effects- such as going from having a chance to play to NOT having a chance to play- will hammer the point home quite forcefully.

Back when I was a hairy young lad and looked like one of the usual suspects, I would get pulled over because the cops were whimsical like that.
