Title: SXSW Music Conference
Post by: Tralfaz on March 16, 2010, 08:34:31 am
Looking for a heads up on anything that might be good.  I plan on catching
Broken Bells/Spoon on Wednesday.  Love the new Broken Bells song.  Ray Davies
Thursday and Big Star Saturday.  The latter two make the wrist band purchase totally worth it, but hoping to find some good power pop to mix in between.  Also high on my list is The Happy Hollows, Brazos, The xx, She and Him, Band of Skulls, Best Coast and The Soft Pack.

I'm jealous, I got a very busy work week, so I didn't buy a wrist band. I might try to get to La Zona Rosa, Ray Davies is one of my Mt. Rushmore rock icons. I'll see the free shows at Auditorium Shores, of Cheap Trick (Friday) and She and Him (Saturday). As much as I'd like to see Alex, I'm not even going to try to get into Antones for Big Star, it will be wall to wall people in there and impossible to enter without a badge or wristband.

I'm sure the crowd at Antones for Big Star will be substantial, but I wouldn't totally rule out trying.  I saw them during sx at the Music Hall a few years back and it was far from full.  They've done a ton of reunion shows, so alot of the indutry people have seen them and may opt for other Saturday hipster events.

I would strongly suggest The French Legation for anyone without a wristband.  It's a beautiful place, outdoors on a rolling hill, just east of I-35 and the line up there is sweet.  The xx play it Thursday at 6pm and Thurston Moore is Friday, also at six.  Free and open to the public.

I'm going to try to get to Cedar Street on Friday afternoon for Delta Spirit and Dr. Dog. On Saturday I don't have anything concrete, but I really want to go to Auditorium Shores for Deer Tick and She & Him.

Does Deer Tick sound anything like Deerhoof?

The Big Star show is off. RIP, Alex. I haven't been this down since Strummer died.

Anyone attend the Big Star/Chilton tribute show Saturday?

I know the line started before 7 for a 12:30 show, plus it was badges only, and Antone's only holds a couple hundred people. A tough ticket, to be sure.
