Post by: jester9450 on March 11, 2010, 01:25:58 am

I thought for sure this was something about LBJ and Fidel.

You may need to recalculate.  Looks like you are off by a trillionth.

Me too!  Of course, Americans are free to travel to Cuba anytime they wish.  They're just forbidden to spend any money while there.

I would have liked to have seen Montana.

Actually, Tony Montana *was* from Havana.

There once was a man from Havana
Who went by the name of Montana
He was not an Astro, like Johnson and Castro
But he played with his balls and banana.

That's pretty damn good for early in the morning.

The correct answer is virtually zero. You're going on the first couple of ST games? Read a lot more and post a lot less. Thank you. That is all.

Castro's got a pretty good shot, but Towles also has a good chance of winning the job. Johnson will be back in Round Rock to start the season. If he plays well down there, he could take over if Feliz gets hurt.

I bet that they send Castro down to AAA (or maybe even AA) to get some every day AB's.

Based on Towles solid start to spring, I would say that barring injury to Feliz & Towles, they will both be on the opening day roster in RR.

Who will be the opening day catcher for the Astros?

Right now, JR Towles.  At the end of spring training?  Ahum... I'm going out on a limb and say JR Towles.

Castro has no business being anywhere but RR, imo

I actually think he could handle the big leagues right now, but I'm very high on him. It won't bother me a bit, though, when it's JR and Q on OD.

CJ has zero chance of being on the roster OD. Next year.

Best thing for the Astros IMO is for Towles to excel with the Astros and Castro to excel at AAA.  Castro's value is already high, and Towles value can really only go up with major league success.  He's done all he can at AAA.

Agreed. And if the Astros think that Castro is going to be the long-term answer, there is no reason to start his major-league service time clock this year (barring injury to Towles or Q, and even then they might think about just picking up a journeyman to back up whoever is still standing).

I'm guessing you're thinking future trade of Towles for a decent return, rather than future C platoon with LH-hitting Castro.

I do not care how good Castro looks in ST. Imo, he needs to start in AAA. If he tears it up there, fine.

I'm thinking league-wide values for Towles and Castro are likely maximized by Towles in mlb and Castro in AAA.  A trade of either would get the most value back that way IMO.  Definitely not platoon.
