Title: Beer Thread...Feb 13, 2010
Post by: HudsonHawk on February 13, 2010, 01:30:14 pm
I have recently been turned on to Firemans #4, a blonde ale from the Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco.  They have it on draft at the cigar bar here in Midland, and I picked up a sixer at HEB (Shiner 101 has still not made it this far west yet) today.  It's sort of cross between a hefeweizen and a pils, slightly cloudy with a kind of citrus-like complement.  It's definitely an ale though,  hoppy, but not overly so.  It's quite good.

I'm hearing rumors that the brewery is not long for this world.  Perhaps they will be bought out.

That's a real shame.  Not only is their beer good, but it sucks to see an independent brewery go under, especially a (semi) local one.

Had a nice Firemans 4 the other day at Logan's on 6th.  It was good.

Has become one of my favorites.  My boss brought some for the work fridge about 2 months ago...we have kept it in stock ever since.

God forbid that Real Ale goes under, but the Southern Star Bombshell Blonde is a helluva good yellow fizzy beer when the occasion demands it.

Not if they want to keep it in stock.

there is only one place (taht i know of) that you can get fireman's 4 draft where i live (league city area).  it would be a shame if it was swallowed up or dissolved altogether.

Any links?  I can't imagine that's true as they've started releasing their seasonals in bottle and have just invested a fair amount of money in their brewery.

Just locals talking.  Then again, it is Blanco.

Oh yeah.  They have it on tap at Onion Creek.  I very much enjoyed drinking it sitting in Wednesday afternoon's crisp sunshine.

I have a bottle of Weihenstephaner Korbinian, a bottle of regular Weihenstephaner (which I'm having now), and a Dead Guy Ale Rogue.  I've had the Weihenstephaner regular before, looking forward to the other two.  Our local Spec's is kind of small, so we don't get much in the way of variety.  But then again, they do have a lot of safe brands so that's good.  They're also kind of heavy on the Belgians, which is too bad.

the Korbinian is a very good dopplebock. the Dead Guy is just ok, imo.
