. . . just to show how thankful I am. 2009 has been a trying year in the strosrays household, to say the least; but still, I've got it better than most, and for that I am truly grateful.
I have the Primal Grill/strosrays version of a Cajun smoked turkey ready to go into the smoker, and my better half is busying herself with dressing and mashed potato and schoolhouse roll preparations. My mother has already made up a pot of halupki and sauerkraut and her homemade pierogies, and my mother-in-law is making pasta, and braciole for the suga gravy (heavy on the garlic, no doubt), and maybe even lasagna, if she has the time.
We'll all be at my mother's tomorrow, as will my brothers and their families. Also many members of the extended families, both ours and assorted in-laws. I am guessing maybe 30-35 people, altogether. And, of course, all the food. I won't be able to get a word in edgewise all day, but that is fine with me. I'll just sit and revel in all the commotion our assembeld families make; and although the TV will be on, watching football will be problematic, with all the noise, etc. I'll just sit and drink George Dickel with my uncles, et al, until none of us can see straight anymore. Then we'll all go outside and stumble around trying to run pass patterns in the front yard - "going out for passes", they call it - while my Uncle John, a former single wing tailback, tries to show off the golden arm that once led his team to a high school championship, maybe 50 years ago, or more.
Hey, every family celebrates in their own way. I hope you and yours have a pleasant Thanksgiving, in your own way, as well.

I'll be going to SA to my mom's. Somehow or other, all my siblings and all their kids will be there. Along with some other family. So, there will be about 25-30 people. I'm the one that brings the pies, so I will be taking a pumpkin, pecan, chocolate and coconut cream. I am also taking a cake and some bread. Yes, I've been busy baking this week again.
We usually eat, do the dishes (my mom has had 4 dishwashers-guess how many kids she had), then rest by either falling asleep during the football game or just gossiping about other family (my grandma will probably be a big topic since she suffered a stroke last Saturday). After the meal has started the digestion the games will probably start. If football is over, the guys will probably play pitch while the ladies will play something else.
Overall, it is going to be a great day. I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

Will be gorging myself all day long. First at the in-laws and then at my parents. The youngun will be by my side the whole time, making sobriety worthwile. I hope for a Cowboys W and a good showing from ATM (for the old man's sake). I hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving, however you choose to pass the time.

After reading your fast food post (http://www.spikesnstars.com/forums/index.php?topic=109746.msg302016#msg302016), it seems as if two Thanksgiving dinners is pretty much a requirement for you. Have your inlaws been warned? Are you going to stop at Sonic on the way over to your parent's place?

i will be lucky enough to be with the whole family. my three daughters one son in law and my two most beautiful wonderful grandchildren. i dont have to cook, clean, just be waited upon. it will be the perfect day

I will actually miss the in-laws and can't wait to go to the parents. The STBX wife, not so much. 2009 pretty much sucked. I give thanks to what I have and dream big. Here's to brighter days and something better to be thankful for.

"going out for passes" is what i call it too. if i can help anyone who has had a tough year, i am here. i will put my dysfunctional extended family up against anyone's. i do not like the big gatherings any more--too much tension/drama. thank God for Mark.

I will echo this sentiment. Despite our fighting like hell, or the fact that I can occassionally (?) be an asshole/fucking idiot, I really love everyone here, and consider you all my best friends. Please let me know if I can help anyone in any way.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I just got up from the table at my Mom and Dad's. Gonna have to let my belt out a notch or two. Time for a nap before the Cowboy's game. I drove up to Fort Worth from Austin this morning listening to Doolittle and Bossanova, hadn't listened to the Pixies for a few years.
