Astros Live just reported that somebody on the team (I missed who) is trying to get the guys to grow mullets- a la the Turdinals' porn 'staches- as a show of team unity and spirit and blah blah blah. They added that Roy O has volunteered to grow a mullet and speculated as to how awful he would look with same.

There was plenty of great music being made in the 90's. "Worst" really doesn't mean much when even the lowest times in popular memory have produced enough great music to fill the largest iPod. Plus, it's not like any of the great music from prior decades suddenly disappeared when the clock rolled over to January 1, 1990.
Oh, and I think JA's Photoshop skills have scared off anyone from putting up their pictures.

Depends on the person. I didn't graduate high scholl until 1989, but the touchstone for my musical tastes, cultural influences, etc is from the mid to late 70's.

Agree on the 70's, although I'm a child of the 80's, early 90's. The 80's, for me, had way too much "New Romantic" b.s. for me to ever consider it better than the 90's. I liked that early 90's grunge, quite a bit actually. Some of the subsequent crap that came out, toward the late 90's was just plain bad, regardless of decade. The current decade is a continuation of that awful, over-produced crap. I cannot turn on the radio for fear of the crap that I will be subjected to over the airwaves. Thank god for ipods/mp3. I find something I like, add it to the player and have hours of music I enjoy versus the alternating hair band schlock (I hate motley crue) and maroon5 type noise.

The range of years they have to listen to, if you translated that back to the late 1970s, when I was in school, we'd have had to listened to everything from punk and new wave back to guys in knickers singing through megaphones. I never listened to anything pre-British Invasion back then, which at that time had only happened 15 years prior, or from the perspective of today, about the time Oasis was really getting big.
They have so much more to listen to and appreciate, plus they can talk easily to their dad and mom about popular music. My contemporaries and I could do neither.

Yeah, I think there's plenty of great music coming out now. Yet the traditional gatekeeper for bands (the radio) is tighter than ever, due to industry consolidation that started in the 80's. Radio is dying a slow death...all the good music was discovered in the earlier decades when DJs were allowed to play what they wanted. Currently, payola seems to determine what's played on top 40 and modern rock, which works well enough to generate album sales. But it's all flash-in-the-pan, I doubt anyone will remember all the crappy autotune popstars of today in 10 years.

This is very well stated. My musical tastes were influenced by older siblings, admittedly. That said, my musical tastes span the 60's up to the current offerings. Admittedly, I have a preference for a certain type of music, guitar driven etc..., but I enjoy other genre as well.
The 80's had some outstanding music. But to me, it was the turning point for the top 40 music. I find the top 40 offerings worse than the year before (and yes, I realize I sound like a grumpy old man)....

I listen to broadcast radio (I don't have a cd player or anything in my car) and there is very little new music played at all on the radio. Popular music today is made popular by television or other avenues. Radio is strictly about promoting back catalogs with the exception of the hip-hop/r&b station and the country station.

That's interesting. I was born in 1977, but consider myself pop-culturally to be a product of the '90s. I figured my culturally formative years spanned from middle school though college, which is pretty much 1988 - 1999. High school and college were exclusively in the '90s. Guess I didn't really establish my musical tastes until sophomore year of high school and beyond.
