Well, get your ass to the MMPUS!!

Maybe they're all in the 5-7 Grille and food service is really slow. Could be.

Well, get your ass to the MMPUS!!
Hey now, I'll make 4 of 10 this homestand...

Happy to do summaries or PBP if y'all need 'em. Let me know...

Why is Pudge looking back when trying to steal?
-
I'm listening to Milo on KTRH's MLB feed. According to Milo as they go to commercial, "We go to the top of the third. It's nip and tuck. Nip has two, Tuck has one." And right into commercial.
Fuckhead.
-
Happy to do summaries or PBP if y'all need 'em. Let me know...
Thanks but I have work I need to do anyway. I'll be checking in on Gameday and here in the GZ from time to time.
-
Why is Pudge looking back when trying to steal?
He's not trying to steal, he's executing his part of the hit and run.
-
I stepped out for a bit and my wife just tried to "play" Gameday.
-
Happy to do summaries or PBP if y'all need 'em. Let me know...
Yes, please. Will be leaving for son's game soon.
-
Why is Pudge looking back when trying to steal?
HH explanation aside, is this what you meant to ask?
-
Yes, please. Will be leaving for son's game soon.
Will start it up B3 then...

I don't know which is worse, Time Warner (for not always carrying the Astros in Texas) or ESPN (for general douchebaggery)

on my mlb.tv feed, there's been an extra 5-10 seconds at the end of the inning where you can hear the broadcast. After the nice 6-4-3 turned by the Astros Jd said "take that, Isabel" and Brownie added "screech at that bad boy." (Pattie Smith was interviewing hitter Janish's family in the stands, including Aunt Isabel... Pattie tactlessly proclaimed that she had heard Isabel's "screech" when Janish got a hit earlier).
-
Top 5: Hampton pitching
Arroyo: roller to SS, Miggy to 1B a step and a half in front of the hustling pitcher. 1 out, none on.

Question for those in the Austin TV market: if the Mavs knock out the Spurs, FSNSW will not broadcast the Mavs second round games here, right? Please tell me they won't.
Stupid Spurs. /grrrr

End 5: HOU 1, CIN 2

That was too funny. Patty is 0-2 today...

that twitter stuff needs to stop. seriously. now fshouston wants you to follow them on twitter. wouldn't it be better to watch the games?

Maybe JD's dad should give her a kiss.

How about just following it here for those of us still stuck at work. Anyone have a quick update?

I wish.

I don't think that will be a problem. I don't remember getting screwed by the Mavs in the past.

-
Bottom 6: Arroyo at 59 pitches
Matsui: slaps a single the other way (left) on a nice 8 pitch AB. None out, Matsui at 1B.
Tejada: grounder at Arroyo's back foot, Arroyo gets down quickly to field the ball making for an easy DP. 2 outs, none on.
Berkman: massive homer to the 2nd deck in right. HOU 2, CIN 2. 2 outs, none on.
Lee: homered just missing the 'W' in foul powl in left. HOU 3, CIN 2 2 outs, none on.
Spaz: lined shot into right-center, Spaz gets thrown out trying to turn the single into 2... 3 outs.
End 6: HOU 3, CIN 2

WTF was pence thinking??
Pence doesn't think, but, if he could, it would basically be like Pong on the odyssey, only in extreme turbo.
-
I guess Pence was just trying to be... uh... aggressive? WTF? How did it look?
And Yay kitty-horse.
-
Finally back on ESPN.
El Caballo, good bye-o. /espn

Times like this, I really wish Spaz had to walk back into the dugout and face Bagwell and Biggio.

OSF should enjoy this inning recap.
Indeed!

I guess Pence was just trying to be... uh... aggressive? WTF? How did it look?
How did it look? It looked like someone was trying to define "baseball stupid". Out by infinity.

a bad throw would have beat him.
-
Top 7: Hampton (94 pitches) still on the hill
Janish: singles in front of Bourn. 1 on, none out.
Arroyo: 1-4 sacrifice after fouling-bunting the first 2, throw pulls Kaz off the bag but gets his foot there in time for the out. 1 out, runner on 2B.
Pitching change
Top 7: 1 out, runner on 2B. HOU 3, CIN 2
-
a bad throw would have beat him.
Craig Fucking Biggio in center would have beat him by 3 steps.
-
WTF was pence thinking??
"Coach, you said not to make the last out at third."
-
Argh. Not even one of those "it will take an excellent throw to beat him" type attempts?
I went back on the DVR and looked again. Willy T came up with the ball just as Pence was rounding first, and then Pence turns it on and tries for second. Willy throws him out by two miles and is back in the dugout before Pence gets to second.
-
Pence doesn't think, but, if he could, it would basically be like Pong on the odyssey, only in extreme turbo.
Nominated!
-
Top 7 - 1 out, runner on 2B: Geary on the hill
Taveras: bouncer up the middle past Geary, Miggy lunges left, keeps the ball in the infield but doesn't make a throw. 1 out, runners at the corner.
Hawkins and Byrdak warming up in the pen
Hairston Jr.: 4 pitch walk. Bases juiced, 1 out.
Coop brings Byrdak in to face the lefty Votto.
Top 7, 1 out, bases loaded: HOU 3, CIN 2

I went back and looked at it. Pence has that 'Oh fuck!' look on his face as he's rounding first.
-
Geary is not helping the cause here.
-
The Houston Astros, the Chicago White Sox of the National League. /espn

Geary is not helping the cause here.
it is my fault he's not doing well. i took a picture with him at spring training.
-
This whole Geary-Byrdak middle inning thing against the Reds doesn't seem to be working quite so much.
-
anyone think pence saw bourn hit the cut-off man??? i hope so.
-
Top 7, 1 out, bases loaded: Byrdak pitching to Votto, Hawkins still warming up in the pen.
bouncer foul, big cut at an outside slider, fouled away, takes one high off the wall in left center, 2 score but Hairston thrown out at the plate. 2 outs, runner goes to 3B on the throw home.
Top 7, 2 outs, runner on 3B: HOU 3, CIN 4
-
Ugh, Listening to Milo, had to interpret what was happening by crowd noise.
-
What happened? ESPN decided that this was a good time to go to an extended recap of the Pirates-Marlins game.
ETA: Never mind. I was typing my question while the answer was being supplied.

anyone think pence saw bourn hit the cut-off man??? i hope so.
Saw it, sure. Understood it...? Not so much.

Top 7, 2 outs, runner on 3B:
Byrdak strikes out Phillips swinging. 3 outs.

DoRayMe were talking about the Reds and Astros. Basically, it went something like this:
Reds are the worse hitting club in the NL, a .210 team BA. Houston has a team BA of .242, good for #9 out of 16 NL clubs. Here is the rub, even being the worse batting club in the NL, the Reds have scored more runs than the Astros (42 runs to 36). So again, the Reds are the worse hitting club yet they have more runs scored than the Astros.
Hmmmm... so Do (of the DoRayMe) opines that the reason for this is the Astros woeful RISP BA for the Astros. So I have to go take a look for myself and see if this holds true. Well guess what, it most certainly does. Here is what our middle of the lineup is doing with RISP:
#3 Berkman - w/RISP: BA .167 (not worse amongst the starters, but pretty bad), OBP .333, SLG .417 (fourth best on the team).
#5 Lee - w/RISP: BA .231, OBP .385 and SLG .333
So who has the worse stats w/RISP? Not Hunter Pence, but look at this - BA .182 (third worse amongst the starters), OBP .267, SLG .182. And to think, this is not the worse stats amongst the starters, even though it is horrible. That honor belongs to Pudge - BA .091, OBP .167, SLG .182. Oh my goodness, you would think that free swingers like Pence and Rodriquez would be better seeing as how they can hit a baseball well. But something happens to these grip it and rip it duo that causes the special powers to leave them. But Berkman? And Lee? When you add those two guys to the mix, the free swingers Pence and Pudge trying to flail there way to bring some ducks in is getting comical. I'm not saying I blame Lee and Berkman, but if you get pass those two, then you have a really good shot of getting the Astros to strand those ducks. And does anyone now think that LOBsters are a problem? I don't, people are getting on, the team can hit well enough, but when it gets to the point when you need a situational hit from our middle of the lineup, if it's Pence or Pudge your wishing with your heart at that point. If it's Lee or Berkman, you have to wonder what the heck is going on, that is what these two get big bucks to do!
-
I went back and looked at it. Pence has that 'Oh fuck!' look on his face as he's rounding first.
Wow, I would pay cash american for a picture of that look. It would be the SnS banner for the rest of the year!
-
i bet that hurt.
-
Top 8: LaTroy on the hill
Encarnacion: bouncer to pitcher, Hawkins knocks it down and throws to 1B for the out. 1 out, none on.
Dickerson (PH for McDonald): held up on the 3-2 pitch outside for the walk. 1 out, runner on 1B.
Hannigan: high 1-hopper to Berkman who throws to Hawkins for the out (runner going on the play so no chance for a DP on that one). 2 outs, runner on 2B.
Janish: hit in the back arm with a fastball. 2 outs, runners at 1B and 2B.
Nix (PH for Arroyo): fouled off the end of the bat out of play (0-1), Pudge visits the mound, called strike (0-2), struck out swinging at a low curve. 3 outs.
Middle 8: CIN 4, HOU 3

I thought it was Jason Smith's fault.
-
I thought it was Jason Smith's fault.
My sarc meter was off, I'm betting you're not serious. But I will say this: I expect Lee and Berkman to change those stats. Pudge and Pence? Time will tell, but it could become worse before it becomes better with free swingers. And Jason Smith is back on the bench where he belongs. Thank goodness.
-
My sarc meter was off, I'm betting you're not serious.
just messing with after yesterday.
don't know about anyone else, but i'm laughing.
-
Bottom 8: Rhodes (LHP) on the hill
Michaels (PH for Hawkins): blisters a liner off the corner of the wall at the Crawford boxes. None out, runner at 2B. HOU 3, CIN 4
Hairston a tad woozy after banging into the wall
-
See that pinch hit... that pinch hit *right there*. THAT is what you expect from a pinch *hitter*. Michaels has been hitting the ball hard this year. Finally something drops for him.
-
Wow, I would pay cash american for a picture of that look. It would be the SnS banner for the rest of the year!
Cheo's got it too.
-
well executed
-
good bunt, now they just need to get michaels home. please.
-
None out, runner at 2B. HOU 3, CIN 4
Kaz: pretty sac bunt down 3B line, Michaels to 3B. 1 out. 1 out, runner at 3B. HOU 3, CIN 4
-
Cheo's got it too.
And Kaz.
-
just messing with after yesterday.
don't know about anyone else, but i'm laughing.
I know, I thought it was funny. But looking at those stats and realizing that Pudge hits 7 and Pence hits 5 means that if Lee and Berkman are going to take more walks and leave the job of driving in runs to those two (plus Blum), then Coop will have to consider his lineup again. Just saying.
-
And Kaz.
everyone on the bench has that look.
-
Tejada's too...
My bad: I forgot about Miggy's accomplishment last year.
-
Bottom 8: 1 out, runner on 3B
Tejada: ball, ball, foul, ball inside (RHP Masset warming up in the pen), ball high (walk).
Bottom 8: 1 out, runners at the corners
-
brownie just said what i was thinking. come on lance. basehit, please.
-
Cheo's got it too.
Nice, time for a SnS Fark contest on the home page. I think I'll create my PSD showing Cheo using a lasso to try and pull Hunter back. Other options: bunge cord, the bench holding up stop signs, etc. etc.
-
curse words.
-
Berkman: pops up into shallow right on the first pitch, too shallow to allow Michaels to tag.
Bottom 8: 2 outs, runners at the corners. HOU 3, CIN 4
-
i don't think there is an advantage to anyone on this team right now JD>
-
Berkman is living up to what the stats are saying... he's trying hard to turn that worm. It's up to Lee now... or... *gulp* Pence.
-
Cheo's got it too.
bourn's face is my favorite
-
bourn's face is my favorite
mine too.
-
Lee: ball just outside (1-0), ball inside (2-0), ball (3-0), called strike (3-1), agressive swinging strike at 94 MPH on the outside corner (3-2), ball high and outside (walks).
Bottom 8: 2 outs, bases juiced. HOU 3, CIN 4
Spaz up
-
Berkman is living up to what the stats are saying... he's trying hard to turn that worm. It's up to Lee now... or... *gulp* Pence.
he's going to prove us all wrong.
-
bourn's face is my favorite
Exactly.
"What the fuck is he..."
-
Okay, it's up to Pence, the second worse hitter on the club with RISP. I haven't look at RISP w/2 outs though, it could be worse (do you see me working here folks, leave me alone)
-
Bourn:
"SHit, I couldn't make that on my best day!"
-
he's going to prove us all wrong.
SSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!! Damnit!
-
Exactly.
"What the fuck is he..."
i just wonder how mad coop would be at bourn if he did the same thing.
-
[fingerscrossed]2-strike approach...[/fingerscrossed]
-
SSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!! Damnit!
think about who posted that. and her feelings toward him
-
Exactly.
"What the fuck is he..."
"Oh. No. He de-n't!"
-
[2strikeapproach]SWING AS HARD AS YOU CAN[/2strikeapproach]
-
think about who posted that. and her feelings toward him
Not me you have to talk to here, talk to the BBGs.
-
Not me you have to talk to here, talk to the BBGs.
the BBGs know how i feel about pence. i shout it loud enough when he's at bat and in the field.
-
Your killin me here Milo, killin me!
-
Don't nobody move!
-
SWING HARDER THUNDERPANTS
-
Bottom 8: 2 outs, bases juiced. HOU 3, CIN 4
Spaz: called strike, fastball on the low inside corner (0-1), fouled back (0-2), barely lays off the high heat (1-2), ball just inside, looked a lot like the first called strike (2-2), foul tip on inside corner fastball (2-2), foul tips another one, high heat this time (2-2), ball inside (3-2), fouled back (3-2), struck out looking on a marginal pitch, bottom of the plate I guess... 3 outs.
End 8: HOU 3, CIN 4
-
After a solid AB, you gotta swing at that pitch!
-
*sigh* I knew it was over when Milo and Raymond decided to say stuff about "he's in a spot where it's his job to be in *these situations*". Damn, I was hoping the BBGs were not paying attention to that very fact and were going to forgive Cooper. But you know what, Berkman was probably the guy who is most hurt that he had a chance to drive in a guy from third with only one out and did not do it.
It must of been painful to have to watch Pence try to do something he's... well... not very good at doing. Unless the pitcher is brain dead and throws him a nice inside fastball.
-
Hmm, you just don't expect a called 3rd strike in an 11 pitch at bat.
-
Never, ever take strike 3
-
Hmm, you just don't expect a called 3rd strike in a 12 pitch at bat.
I disagree. Pence swung at several balls and fouled them off.
-
Top 9: Valverde on the hill
Taveras: popped up the 1-1 pitch to Miggy behind 3b. 1 out, none on.
Top 9 - 1 out, none on: HOU 3, CIN 4

*sigh* I knew it was over when Milo and Raymond decided to say stuff about "he's in a spot where it's his job to be in *these situations*". Damn, I was hoping the BBGs were not paying attention to that very fact and were going to forgive Cooper. But you know what, Berkman was probably the guy who is most hurt that he had a chance to drive in a guy from third with only one out and did not do it.
It must of been painful to have to watch Pence try to do something he's... well... not very good at doing. Unless the pitcher is brain dead and throws him a nice inside fastball.
berkman's ab was bad. i wasn't surprised lee got walked to get to pence. you even showed why they wouldn't be worried about it.
-
Hmm, you just don't expect a called 3rd strike in an 11 pitch at bat.
why wouldn't you?
-
After a solid AB, you gotta swing at that pitch!
Hey, the kid battled. He did well up until that last pitch. That was good thing he did to give himself a chance. He'll do well if he keeps that up for the rest of the season.
-
After a solid AB, you gotta swing at that pitch!
Agreed. but at least he had a solid approach in that situation and didn't swing at everything. I'm still perplexed why Rhodes never threw him a breaking ball though.
-
Haisrston Jr., flies out deep into the corner in right.

Berkman is lost at the plate right now.
-
why wouldn't you?
Cause you've been fighting off pitches to get to that point. It's like giving up. Especially in that situation. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I just didn't expect it there.
-

But he's gotta finish good AB's too.

A couple of things go differently in this series and papa grande is in here trying to lock down a 4 game sweep. Baseball.

Top 9 - 2 outs, none on:
Votto: struck out looking on the 1-2 pitch on the outside corner. 3 outs.
Middle 9: HOU 3, CIN 4

when did valverde start wearing byrdak's glasses? i noticed it a couple of games back.

Berkman is lost at the plate right now.
Fix Berkman and that goes a long way to fix the lineup. Lineup if broke right now and Pence is exposed as the free swinging happy go lucky running fool. He was so excited that Berkman and Lee hit back-to-back homers that he decided to go take a stroll around the bases. That's how excited he was.
-
Berkman is lost at the plate right now.
his at bat was the killer in the inning. you expect lance to at least get the runner home from 3rd with less than two outs.
-
But he's gotta finish good AB's too.
Yes, he does, but at least there was positive progress made by Pence. Now he needs to continue to apply the good things he did that at bat and not get discouraged by the poor result.
-
But he's gotta finish good AB's too.
Baby Steps. First thing is to get him to quit going 1-2-3 sit down in those situations. He battled. He keeps that up, he'll win his share. So that is a good thing. Had he gone 1-2-3, looking at the last strike or swinging would not have mattered, he would be a considerable lost cause to me. He showed a glimer of hope at least. That is good. Hey, it's sumpthin!

Okay folks, stop this long faces stuff, we got us a game to win here. Come on, rally caps, lucky underwear, favorite pillows, your ba-ba when you were a baby that you still have in the closet (you know who you are).
It's RALLY TIME! First one to post something negative gets to answer to me.

-
Bottom 9, 1 out, runner on 1B:
Bourn: offered at a very high fastball (0-1, JD said he was lucky he didn't dislocate his shoulder on that one), ball low (1-1), popped up to 3B with the runner going. 2 outs, Smith on 1B. Erstad at the plate.
Bottom 9, 2 outs, runner on 1B: HOU 3, CIN 4
-
noe, why doesn't bourn like you?

Ballgame: HOU 3, CIN 4

fuckshit
-
Well, that was underwhelming.
-
Another hit and run? Oh come on!!! *Sigh*. Okay, I now return you to the same story on the Astros, version Monday night. Gnashing of teeth about Geary, Pence and Berkman is scheduled for t-minus 20 seconds on the TZ. See you there... oh and Jason Smith was used perfectly tonight. Just saying!
-
Well, that was underwhelming.
Yet again...

A couple of things go differently in this series and papa grande is in here trying to lock down a 4 game sweep. Baseball.
Funny you said this because that was a thought I had earlier. The Reds aren't coming in here as world beaters. They're struggling. Houston had a two straight winning streak. And this is a four game series. The very last thing you'd expect is to lose three of four to a team that didn't look that great (their ACE got banged around by the Astros in their only win). But man-oh-man, simple situational hitting 101 and Houston wins three maybe even four this series.
That's gotta be eating someone up something fierce. If not Coop (and I'm sure it is), then WadeSmith for sure.
-
Hmm, you just don't expect a called 3rd strike in an 11 pitch at bat.
are you kidding?
-
are you kidding?
I don't expect it either because with that many pitches, I expect that the batter has a fucking clue about not taking close pitches with two strikes. Then I remember this was Pence we're talking about and my expectations go out the window.
