Opening Day '09. Wish I could've been there but oh well.
Fuck the Cubs, let's get it going.
-
Go Stros!
-
Not really what I was hoping for with the first batter.
-
Anyone care for PBP? I could go for awhile if there is an interest
-
Berkman took some ferocious swings.
Come on Kabong. Make the snsers family.
-
I'm forced to watch this on ESPN and they had no view of Matsui on that last play. What happened?
-
That was idiotic.
-
Matsui: Walks
Rodriguez: Flies out to right
Berkman: Singles to right
Lee: Lazy liner to Bradley. Matsui doubled off second, seemed sure it would drop.
-
Inauspicious starts to innings 1 and 2 for Roy.
-
Roy, please stop juicing fastballs right over the plate
-
kazuO!!
-
Matsui made up for the stupid ass baserunning with some slick fielding there
-
Ramirez: Homer to the Crawford Boxes
Fontenot: On a 1-1 count, hits a curve for a single to right
Soto: On a 2-2, Soto singles to left. Roy upset
Theriot: Great stop by Berkman down the line. Gets the out at first. Runners advance to second and third.
Zambrano: Infield drawn in, ball hit right to Kaz who freezes the runner on third and gets the out at first.
Soriano: 4-3 put out to end the inning on a broken bat bounder up the middle. Kaz makes a nice play.
-
Tejada: First pitch single to left. No outs.
-Tejada caught stealing on a ball in the dirt. One out, none on.
Blum: Flies out to right on a 1-2 pitch. Two outs, none on.
Pence: Gets three sliders managing to lay off two of them before grounding out. Three outs.
-
The best way to describe Zambrano to this point would be wildly effective. He's all over the place but we have 0 runs.
-
Fukudome: K's looking. Kosuke did not look good in that AB. One out, none on.
Soto: Drives one deep to the bullpen in left-center. Lee catches on the warning track. Two outs, none on.
Bradley: Goes 3-0 for the second time in two ABs. Walks on 5 pitches. Two outs, man on first.
Ramirez: Flies out to deep center on a 1-1 count. Three outs.
-
The best way to describe Zambrano to this point would be wildly effective a fat turd. We have 0 runs but he is a fat turd.

FIFY
I stand corrected
-
Bourn: leading off...in the 3rd inning from the 8 spot...singles. Coop knew what he was doing all along.
Oswalt: Sac bunt. One out, Bourn on second.
Matsui: Bloops one into no mans land in front of Fukudome. One out, runners first and third.
Rodriguez: K's on three pitches. Two outs, runners first and third.
Berkman: Grounds to second. Three outs, two stranded.
-
Terrible AB by Pudge.
-
Horrible situational hitting by Pudge.
-
Horrible situational hitting by Pudge.
He was completely overmatched.
-
Fontenot: Doubles on the second pitch. Over Lee's head and off the wall.
Soto: Grounds out Berkman to Oswalt. Runner advances. One out, man on third.
Theriot: Lines out to Pence. Pence caught it backing up, no chance at home. Two outs, runner scores.
Zambrano: Grounds out Blum to Berkman.
-
This isn't boding very well.
-
Well at least soon we'll find out what is in Berkman's pocket...
-
Our abs in general have been awful
-
Our abs in general have been awful
Hey I've been doing my crunches, what else do you want from me?!
-
Our abs in general have been awful
I blame the contents of Berkman's pockets.
-
Lee: Pops to the lessor Lee in foul territory. One out.
Tejada: K's on 4 pitches. Two outs.
Blum: Appears to be gearing up for a run at the single season checked swing record. Blum completes a swing that results in a fly out to that skipping fairy fellow in left.
-
Nice.. FSN picked Astros fans to interview that are cheering for the Cubs too?
-
Soriano: Lines one to left. No outs, man on first.
Fukudome: Grounds into a 4-6-3 DP.
Lee: Pops to Kazuo. Three outs.
Nice quick inning. Ritual wig wearing women kill the bad mojo of the mysterious content of Berkman's pocket.
-
Zambrano threw some filthy two-seamers to Tejada.
-
Pence: fastball, slider, slider, slider, slider, fastball, strikeout. One out.
Bourn: K's on four pitches. Two outs.
Oswalt: Tapped back to Zambrano. Three outs.
Fast inning.
-
ESPN just declares that the Astros would have moved had Biggio and Bagwell not gotten them to the world series. Apparently I missed that little piece of Astros' history.

I think that MLB:EI has paid for itself in one game, just so I don't have to listen to the asshats at ESPN.
-
Berkman carries a phone and keys in his pockets. How unique. FSN breaking out the good stuff for opening day.
Bradley: Fouls a ton off, doesn't check a terrible swing (umpire disagreed with me), pops up to Pudge. One out.
Ramirez: Gets in on the fouling fun before popping out to Berkman. Two outs.
Fontenot: Grounds out Matsui to Berkman. Three outs.
-

But does he want to be a rodeo clown?
-
Matsui rung up on a bs call. He checked his swing.
-
The Matsui call was horseshit. But Zambrano is painting the black with that 94 mph heat.
-
The Matsui call was horseshit. But Zambrano is painting the black with that 94 mph heat.
We missed the chance to jump on him early when he was wild. Now its just a matter of when we can get a crack at the Cubbie's pen.
-
Matsui: If Bradley didn't swing in the top half, then neither did Matsui here. Umpire disagrees, K's him on that check swing. One out.
Rodriguez: K's again. Two outs.
Berkman: Walks.
Lee: Grounds into a force at second.
-
Fuck, it's Pam. Those of you on ESPN are the lucky ones, for once.
-
Gardner is on. She's homely.
-
Soto: Grounds out on the first pitch.
Theriot: Lines through the hole to right. One out, Berkman has company.
Zambrano: Swinging big, missing big. K. Two outs, man on first.
- Geary warming up
Soriano: Grounds into a 5-4 fielders choice.
-
Gardner is on. She's homely.
Makes up for it with that sexy soothing voice.
-
Gardner is on. She's homely a miserable cunt who got impaled by the ugly steering column.
FIFY.
I'm not in a great mood at the moment.
-

Is anyone watching this with MLB.tv? I can't seem to get it to stream properly and having to watch ESPN2 (granted its a lot prettier in HD).
-
FIFY.
I'm not in a great mood at the moment.
Tell us how you really feel.
-
Zambrano is out of the game. Don't know who is coming in, but I expect to see the righthander Heilman, who usually sucks in these situations.
-
OK. Zambrano out. Time to wreck the pen.
-
Way to go Pence. Way too aggressive.
-
God Sutcliffe is awful.
-
Alright. It'll show up as a single in the boxscore. We're off the schneid.
-
God Sutcliffe is awful.
Drunk or sober?
-
Gardner is on. She's homely.
And it appears to be purposeful, or she's blind.
-
Who's up in the 'pen to replace Roy?
-
Alright. It'll show up as a single in the boxscore. We're off the schneid.
Bourn gets the run in from 3rd with 2 outs, Ivan failed with 1 out.
-
Who's up in the 'pen to replace Roy?
Geary was the last name mentioned
-
Drunk or sober?
He really is that know-it-all drunk boob at the cocktail party that everyone tries to avoid... who thought it was a good idea to put him on a national broadcast?
-
Tejada: Lines to center for a base hit. None out, man on first.
- Cubs bullpen warms
Blum: Zambrano starts losing control, velocity appears to be down. Blum works a full count and walks. None out, men on first and second.
- Pinella notices and yanks Big Z to a chorus of boos.
- Heilman comes in
Pence: 6-4-3 on the first pitch. Two outs, man on third.
Bourn: Bourn is fast. Singles on a Willy Taveras swinging bunt. Runner scores
- Erstand replaces Oswalt
- Cotts replaces Heilman
- Erstad replaces by Michaels
Michaels: Grounds to short.
For the Rockets fans out there, Manu is out for the season. That should make the division title a little more attainable.
-
Geary takes the hill.
Fukudome: Flies to Lee in short left.
Lee: Nice strike out. Geary looks good.
Bradley: Great over the shoulder catch by Matsui!
-
Give that man a blue star!
Kaz brought his glove tonight.
-

(1) I love the bullpen.
(2) I really hope Matsui stays healthy.
-
Give that man a blue star!
Kaz brought his glove tonight.
fuckin A he did
-
Geary looked pretty good.
-
Ivan has one slow bat.
-

No one has looked good in the batter's box tonight

Matsui
-
Alright. Tying run up. Come on El Kabong.
-
No one has looked good in the batter's box tonight
Berkman has looked smart at the plate. Pudge looks like he's trying too hard to be a hero.
-
Marmol replaces Cotts.
Matsui: Shows bunt a couple times then grounds out to short. One out.
Rodriguez: Missed a slider by a ton, forces a full count, then grounds to short. Two outs.
Berkman: Forced another full count and works it for a walk.
Lee: Pops out in foul territory off third base.
-
Pence had some shitty sequences. Looked clueless.
-
Pence had some shitty sequences. Looked clueless.
Pence has been the worst. Swinging at the slider away, laying off the fastball down the middle. No idea what he's doing.
-
WHAT THE HELL
-
Kaz, Lance, and Bourn have looked pretty good. Pence has looked jumpy and uncertain, while Pudge has looked just plain awful. Slow bat indeed.
-
JD said it just as I was thinking it.
Miggy was looking out for his health. Kabong has to make that play.
-
that was Kabong's ball to catch, Miggy coulda made the play but yielded in fear of getting trampled
-
WHAT THE HELL
When the Astros got Lee they had a plan to push the shortstop further back on those low shallow pops. Everett broke his leg for the effort and has only now got himself back and is starting for the Tigers. Tejada wanted no part of that and Lee would not come on.
-

You're being kind to Pence. Rolling over to Aaron Fucking Heilman is no way to go through life son.
-
This is really painful to watch. When do the Texans report?
-

Sack up. When did Pence learn to throw?
-
This is really painful to watch. When do the Texans report?
Get out of here then. We're just starting. Fuck the Texans.
-
Geary stays in
Ramirez: Is not fast. Miggy bobbles but still gets him.
Fontenot: Uh wow. Lee, that's your ball. Gift single on fly ball. One out man on first.
- passed ball sends Fontenot to second.
Soto: Nice strike out looking. Two outs, man on second.
Theriot: Walks on 5 pitches. Two outs, men on first and second.
Hoffpauir: Singles to right. Fontenot scores from second as Pence's throw goes up the line. Two outs, men on first and third. Soriano: Flies to right.
On the bright side, Co-ards give up 4 in the ninth to blow the game.
-
Sack up. When did Pence learn to throw?
Just recently. His arm is going over his shoulder so there is improvement. Fontenot beat the throw, no matter where it was.
-

Correct. Fontenot beat the throw.
-
Miggy's enthusiastic clapping as he parks himself on third base is a sight for sore eyes.
-
Calm the fuck down, Hunter.
-
I was thinking earlier, a Cubbie outfield of Soriano, Fukudome in CF, and Bradley is going to lead to some heartburn for Lou. Bradley just confirmed it.
-
Pence is hacking
-
Pence is hacking
That's all he does. Sometimes he accidentally connects.
-
At least he's fought off a few tough pitches this time.
-
Pence up. Oh fuck. He MISSED a hanger.
-
Gathright in as a defensive substitution for Kosuke in CF.
Gregg in to close.
Tejada: Singles up the middle. None out, man on first.
Blum: Bradley gets a glove on the ball in right but does not catch it. None out, men on first and third.
Pence: Flies to center, deep enough. Miggy scores. One out, man on first.
Bourn: Flies to just right of center. Two outs, man on first.
Smith (replaces Geary): Grounds to first, unassisted.
-
They had their chances.
-
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
-
Fuck the Cubs, but at least baseball is back.
-
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Coop's post-game advice for Spazzypants?
-
Coop's post-game advice for Spazzypants?
If it calms him down and as long as he doesn't run through any glass doors, why not?
-
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
win or lose, its nice to have the stros back.
-
If I'm a coach, any pitcher of mine that throws Hunter Pence a fastball is getting demoted to AAA before the game is over. He looked fucking pitiful at the plate. Even with me and Noe yelling from the upper right field tank to not swing at off speed bullshit, he was up there waving at pitches he couldn't hit with a fucking broom.
-
This is really painful to watch. When do the Texans report?
Go.
A.
Way.
NOW!
-
Matsui made up for the stupid ass baserunning with some slick fielding there
This isn't one of those "defense makes up for [bad] offense" offenses, is it?
-
Go.
A.
Way.
NOW!
Filo's post was whiny bullshit but at least he kept it in the GZ.
-
Yes, in the GZ, whining is permitted, just as it is at the park, in a sports bar, etc. IMHO of course, because you should've hear me whine last night about Hunter Pence. It was not pretty.
-

I was calling him a jackass at the park. The only players to ever get that from me in the past were Lane and Ensberg.
Pretty sure the first thing I told Jim at the Saucer after the game was trade Pence now.
-

Too late. The secret's probably out by now.

There's whining ... and then there is suggesting we look forward to football season on opening day in baseball. That is simply beyond the pale.
-

Well I disagree of course, but understand your point. Had he said NHL Hockey, I would've reacted too! Same way some folks would react to me saying "I'm going to watch a Dynamo match instead". Some things just cause reactions ya know. We care. A lot. Causes us to say things. You know, things. The GZ is the best place for things. Just saying.
