Stated in interview that Corpus is "Astros country." Reading between the lines, what does that say in terms of CC and RR and the Ryan/Sanders Group and the Houston Astros?

Hicks is selling minority interest in the Strangers. Rumors are Nolan may be involved.

i will never believe that Ryan would do that untill i hear him say it.

I hope you are right. I'd hate to see anything come beteen the Express and the 'Stros.

unrelated to that. no doubt in my mind that the Express will go to the Rangers.
the Ryans want to own an MLB team not invest in one.

I knew the Ryans were wealthy, but not MLB-owner wealthy. Do they have enough cheese to buy a team?

That'd be strange to have the Express go to the Rangers.. like bizarro world. And I wouldn't like it.

Ryan might sell a lot of beef.

I'll believe that when it happens.

Bet me, Sphinx

I would totally hate it. Having the Astros farm team come to Austin was a dream come true for me.

Okay Jim, what time frame are we talking about? I'll gladly bet a six-pack of beer (your choice, under $20). I just need to know when to pay up. 2011? 2012? 2024? FWIW I think Ryan is using his team as leverage to get a better deal with Oklahoma City. I know many go to AAA games without regard to the parent club but I wouldn't underestimate the draw from Astros fans in the Austin area. Astros fans who would have little interest in a Rangers' AAA club. I've know very few Ranger fans in the area. Austin is an Astros market... I think... it used to be anyway. I also know that Dave Fendrick has a long history with the Rangers and I can certainly see the possibilities. Maybe it's all just wishful thinking on my part.

It is wishful thinking. Ryan is the president of the Rangers. Austin will be watching Rangers up-and-comers soon.

Damn, I wish Ryan had a big role with the Astros. I know they have a President but something meaningful to have kept him a part of the organization. The Rangers have one-upped the Astros twice on him and it was totally unnecessary both times.
-
Fendrick? How about Jay Miller? How about Nolan Ryan?
It will happen the next time the affiliation agreement is up for renewal IF Ryan is still President of the Rangers. There are issues for the Express with the Astros.

Well, that'll make Round Rock a more enjoyable team to watch.

Especially if you enjoy watching your pitching superstars of the future play for other teams.

bitterness does not become you. time to move on.
i'll give up my season ticket when that happens.

I'm not purposely being obstinate. I'm not saying it's not a done deal. I'm not saying it can be undone. I'm just holding on to hope. If by some chance the Rangers AAA affiliate doesn't move to RR at that time, are you going to buy me a sixer?
-
Yep

As will mine and many others, and then there will be someone else's but in the seats, the season will start as usual but with a giddy Ranger fan in my seat.

My comment wasn't fueled by anything approaching "bitterness," nor do I feel any "bitterness" towards anyone in Round Rock. That organization is still one of the classiest and best run in all of minor league baseball. Unfortunately, however, Reid & Co. don't have any control over the player-personnel who fill their uniforms.
If you can't concede the inarguable difference in talent levels between, say, the Oklahoma and RR rosters or the Frisco and CC rosters, then we just can't have an intelligent discussion on this subject. The results on the diamonds will speak for themselves.

WFW, and you and i both know what is the basis for your attitude.

We will see about this year. I would agree that there was a marked difference between rosters last year. I still think RR's roster is weaker than CC's. CC should be fun to watch this year. RR will be better than last years.

This ad hominem crap is just weak. And your trademark "WFW" bounces in the dirt when you use it to avoid addressing the issue at hand. Either argue the point or don't.
After you get a chance to see Oklahoma at the Dell Diamond this season, let us know what you think about, e.g., Redhawk starters Neftali Feliz and Derek Holland.

This sounds like a strong candidate for PM usage.

If you're going to come in here and bore us to fucking death, again, with your smack about how great the Rangers pitching prospects are, and how much the Astros' org sucks, then at least don't be disingenuous and go by "Kent's Moustache." How about "Juan Gonzalez's Eyebrow" or something?

aaaaaaaaand I won't be sleeping tonight. Thanks for that.

KM is an astute baseball follower who speaks from knowledge. Rangers have had better arms and the astros system top to bottom is not even close right now by comparison. He is IHMO correct that if RR were the Rangers AAA affiliate right now it would be a step up in the talent of players.

Right, I don't doubt that the Rangers have a better crop of prospects, either in AAA or in their org as a whole. What I think is disingenuous is KM coming in here two Aprils in a row and gloating about it, and getting all defensive about the Rangers, all the while posing as an Astros fan.
-
... posing as an Astros fan.
You're pretty sure about the motive here?
I agree that some of the bitterness gets tiring, but it is certainly true that the recent crop of retreads at RR has not been able to hang with the 89-ers the last couple of years. Hope springs eternal, and I think the up-the-middle & outfield defense this year will help the "seasoned citizen" AAAA pitching staff and the Express may just get some decent offense ... both from the few genuine prospects on the team and a couple of the journeymen. That said, I think the "gaps" in the organization that are referred to here and there are going to make it hard for RR or CC to be dominant for at least another year or two. And given fan focus on W/L, that can be a problem for minor league ownership. Unfortuntely, a shift to the stRangers would put a whole new crop of giddy first-timer butts in the seats.
And back to the dominant theme of the thread ... maybe some of the bitterness and all of the reaction to the bitterness would be better handled (as someone suggested already) by PM.

So your saying he's factually accurate but because he is an astros fan he's not supposed to say it?
Also, give me proof of his second season doing this. I looked and didn't see it.

Enough of this already. Geaux Astros!!!!!!!

I'm saying he seems to be more of a Rangers fan, but I don't know KM, nor do I remember every post he's ever made, so there might be something else going on there that I have no clue about.
