Seafood. They have a Pirate themed seafood place (the name escapes me) that is outstanding. If you're into the Blue Angels, you can go visit the museum dedicated to them. And if you're into beaches, Pensacola has some nice white sand beaches. White sand is something most Gulf of Mexico people don't see very often. Unless you wander into the protected beaches of Padre Island that is.

Or unless you're east of the Mississippi, where they are the norm.

Yeah, I realized later I should have been clear that I was speaking of Gulf of Mexico primarily in Texas and Louisiana. I suck!

Not really close to Pensacola. But a very cool place.

Good man. Back when I was going through divorce number one, I used to go to the Flora-Bama in the afternoons to drink and write country music songs in the "downstairs" part--they even had songwriters rhyme books. I used to sing "Daddy Sang Bass" in the afternoon with the band that would play there. I wrote some real cry-in-your-beer, piece-of-shit country tunes there, including Happy Anniversary Darling (How many years is it not?)

I'm going on a golf trip to Gulf Shores with a group of buddies (leave tomorrow, whoohoo!). The organizer has picked Flora-Bama as the entertainment for Friday night.

Have a big time. But check it out in the afternoons. I liked it much more then. Not as many people.

No idea if the OP would be interested, but if I am ever in Pensacola I am heading for the National Naval Aviation Museum (http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/).

Take me with you!

Also consider taking a self-guided Mike Price Memorial Downfall tour, sponsored by the University of Alabama and American Express.
Too soon?

Many of you young 'uns may not realize that the Blue Angels used to base in Corpus. They left in the late 50's I believe for Pensacola.

They were orginally based in Jacksonville, FL until 1950, I believe, when they were called to active duty. They reformed in 1951 based in Corpus until 1954, when they moved to Pensacola. And I don't consider myself a young'un, necessarily, but I don't remember the early 1950's either.

Eglin Air Force Base also has a nice museum. They have a Blackbird and B-52 on display, among others.
