He's said on the radio in the past that the blog is measured by number of hits, period, and that his bosses evaluate him on his ability to drive traffic on the blog.

So anything he says on there has to be viewed through that filter.

Speaking of the Chronicle, has anyone else noticed how...thin...it's become?  Like Houston Post thin.

I have noticed lately about every third car or pickup I see has one of those little Longhorn head emblems on it somewhere.  I think it has become trendy.

Also, an awful lot of people in UT hats, sweatshirts, etc.  No way all those people are UT grads, or even related to UT grads.

This does not in any way take away from the observation that Richard Justice is a dumbass, however.

The unaffiliated people follow winners.  Texas has done a lot of winning over the last 10 years.

I can say in the time I have spent on campus in Lubbock and College Station, I don't recall seeing any students wearing Texas gear.  Can't say the same about UH, but I wouldn't call it widespread from what I remember.

It seems like I see less UT stuff on campus now than when I started working here.  One complaint was/is the availability of UH stuff off campus for purchase.

Yeah, I noticed it when I was back in Houston over the holidays.  Newspapers are barely hanging on...and they seem to be getting rid of their best parts first.  Sad.

I believe part of the problem is that UH is very strict about licensing their trademarks. Obviously the larger issue is the laws of supply/demand.

I really didn't mind Justice's blog several years ago. Every once in awhile he'd throw out a blog post like the last one and you could tell it was all tongue and cheek. Those types of posts are always going to draw more attention, so he could use them like occasional crack hits to get a quick high on hits. Now he's a full fledged crack fiend trying to steal my gutters to get his next fix.

My boy Ignacio did me proud on this one.  He's the brightest red Coog I've ever met.

Also: fuck Justice in his ear.

No, because I purchase only newspapers with actual journalism and paragraphs that contain more than two sentences. I could give a fuck what the Chronicle does because it is a civic disgrace. All nonsense parochial papers like the Chronicle are going out of business. We're seeing the Chronicle on its deathbed. Fuck 'em. Unless you want to buy a truck or a Bob Perry house.

I was thinking about it, but there are plenty of local book stores that need my support more than Amazon

I know a 71 year old who swears by Kindle. He said that you can carry an entire library of a few hundred books with you in your pocket.

Do those things have any means of um... "writing" on them? My husband would probably dig one, but I know he writes in all of his books...

Yes, you can highlight (I know for certain) and make notes (I think).

Thoughts, ideas, comments. He scribbles in the margins a lot (I do too).

Ah, very cool... especially if so about making notes!

I will never purchase your cast-offs from Half Price Books. Sorry.

I also tend to take a cursory thhhhhhhb through a potential buy wary of bodily excretions. So I assume that rules out quite a number of the rest of you, too.

OK, gross.

DH doesn't get rid of books, so no worry about lowering their resale value.
