The Washington Times (http://www.washingtontimes.com/weblogs/lovey-land/2008/Dec/23/teixiera-announcement-today/) says Teixeira will make an announcement today. Speculation leans towards the Sawx.

ESPN says Yankees, $170M, 8 years. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3790141)
-
Well how about that? So, now the Yanks have the four highest paid players in baseball.

Maybe the Yankees will file for bankruptcy and get some taxpayers' money to cover next year's payroll.
-
I hope they fail to make the playoffs again.

Even better, they recently petitioned the city of NY for $370 million in municiple bonds to help pay for the new stadium and its surrounding infrastructure, after receiving $900 million + for the stadium.
This was around the time they signed CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett.

That will be entertaining to see happen.
-
HAHAHAHA
I can't decide what's funnier--the idea of the Yankees flopping again with this outrageous payroll, or the faces full of egg whites in Bristol City. The Sawx basically told Boras to go fuck himself last week, but the enormous arrogance of Sawx Nation scribblers was so great that they took that admission as proof positive that signing Big Tex was just a matter of time.
Fuckin tools.

I don't get "outraged" about sports often, but the Yankees are the Madoff/Big 3 automakers/Lehman/Bailout poster child and a symbol of how the monied elite are hopelessly out of touch with the country. The Yankees always do this, of course, but to do it in this economic climate with the facts surrounding their new ballpark is disgusting.

This is no doubt correct.

I don't know why you are outraged by this. The Yankees make money and they spend money. I am more outraged by teams that make money -- and in particular those who take in revenue sharing money -- and don't spend it on payroll. And if it turns out that Hank and Hal have incorrectly forecasted revenue during the economic downturn -- and take huge losses -- well fuck them in the ear.

Yeah, I can't wait to see the Albert Pujols circus in a couple of years.

A lot of it is due to the public assistance for the new stadium. Also, it's also one thing to sign a $180 m. contract when the economy is booming, it's out of touch with the country to do it now.

ttb, i think you are a closet NYY fan.

Doesn't the city/state stand to take in much more in taxes due to the public assistance?
I was not aware that I needed to spend my money in sync with the rest of the country. Why should the Yankmes?
I hate NY teams as much as the next guy, but they're playing by the rules.

You are right. Sometimes, when I'm sitting in my living room, late at night, I find my favorite Joe Dimaggio picture, take out a jar of vaseline, and rub out a good one. And I always yell out George Steinbrenner's name at the climactical moment.

Well, thanks Todd.
Now I know what to ask for for Christmas. A new pair of eyes to replace the ones I just gouged out.
-
This signing only solidifies my anticipation to see the young Tampa Rays shove it right in the face of this Yankee team. BTW - any money left over for poor Andy Pettitte? I don't think so unless he shallows really hard and takes that dreaded pay cut he so flatly rejected and found offensive for the last few years.
-
Like Todd said, the only positive I see from all this is that at least the Yankees spend a lot of the money the organization makes (in whatever way) back into the ballclub. Around here, I see complaining about Uncle Drayton not spending the money he has. Obviously the Houston Astros don't make as much as the NYY, but there's some happy medium (not that Drayton doesn't spend any money, obviously) where the fans won't complain.
Or maybe that's just some eutopia-type land I just completely made up.

Right, because the Yankee fans haven't complained the last few years. Utopia? Maybe. Imaginary, most definitely.

Fun fact: did you know that there's also a comic book artist named Mark Texeira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Texeira)?
I'll bet you didn't!

no, but wwefigured you could tell us if anyone could.

I totally have the first 3 issues of Psi-force in my closet somewhere.

He was awesome on "Ghost Rider." Too bad that movie sucked.

I rather preferred his stint on Punisher myself. Too bad that all three of those movies sucked (I'm going on the assumption that the two recent ones were even worse than the Dolf Lundgren picture). Let's hope the Wolverine movie is less sucky.

Really, oh great one? I expected much more from you. It must be getting close to tax season.

Just to clarify...
The correct response was: And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you damn kids!
And then Andy would've shown up and said, "Zippy-dippy-dooooooo!" And the end credits would've rolled.
Next week we're having the Harlem Globetrotters on.

Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers on that one. Pray they don't focus on Kiddie Wolverine too much.
