Mike Downey Chicago Tribune
What else besides the fans could they be objecting to about meeting the Cubs at a neutral site?

Mike Downey Chicago Tribune
In proof how fast a man's fortunes can change, Zambrano won a no-hitter, lost his grandmother, flew to Venezuela and returned to Illinois in no state of mind to pitch....
He unexpectedly flew to Venezuela between starts after his grandmother died there. His body was at Wrigley Field for his next start but his mind was elsewhere.

What, did this clown decide someone had to pick up Mariotti's slack?

What a piece of garbage. Here's hoping that a tornado hits his home and results in the entire thing being rammed straight up his ass. Add Cubs media to my searing-hot hatred for Cubs fans and Cubs players.

Did you purposefully omit the Governor of Illinois (http://www.il.gov/PressReleases/ShowPressRelease.cfm?SubjectID=1&RecNum=7150) from your 'searing-hot hatred' list?

Dear Lord Baby Jesus, I just threw up reading that.

A 'not safe for violent temper' warning would have been nice.
-
Yeah, contemplated putting myself on ignore for even posting that link but couldn't figure out how to do so...
-
Another clueless Cub bandwagoner. The nice thing is you know that same moron will be blasting the Cubs when they lose in the playoffs this year.

Fucking twat.

Zambrano is an "Illinois hero"? Lincoln is spinning in his grave.

This asshat spins around faster than our very own Pinwheel.

4 in the morning leaving families with no power, possibly with a tree through the living room, driving through the black streets of Houston on Sunday to find a plane to fly to Milwaukee, get off the plane and go directly to the ballpark. Naturally the oleaginous hack cited here thinks that the team can just throw bags of money onto the field. Or just "get over it". The easy explanation is that they were playing before a cubbie partisan crowd. That explanation is quickly dealt with if we remind these feeble minded droolers that the Astros thrashed the cubbies in their actual, partially condemned, rat infested, moldering, mildewed, ill-lit, stink hole that they usually play in. The difference between this guy and the Chicago hypocrite is that he doesn't think anything should affect an athlete once they get on the field. As if they are robots and accumulations of statistics. He's a rung above the Chicago twat who is busily providing the example of the unexamined life not worth living.

Simply Quote someone's post that has done it. The way to do it then shows up.

I had a volley of e-mails with this fool today, starting with a comment on his 'opinion piece' page. Then I invited him to peruse these walls of knowledge. It ended with him engaging in an argument he can't win. Therefore, I give up.

You have one thing right in your piece: Sports leagues have always put money and television first. It was all money driven and in the best interest of their pocketbooks, not the players, who were personally affected by the hurricane itself. Attacking what the players say and do on this issue is not the issue, nor even newsworthy. Questioning why games were played, and where, is. As I'm sure you're aware, Selig and Mclane are buds, and that Selig used to own the Brewers. Have you read any reports at all concerning the logistics of getting the team to Milwaukee? Do you have any knowledge of the situation other than your misinformed opinion of what actually happened? Why don't you do your readers a favor, and stick to what you know as fact. I understand that SA is not a baseball town per se. I also understand that the Cowboys don't play hear either. If you want to do justice for your reader fans of the Astros, and MLB, for that matter, try directing your negative comments where they belong; the commissioner and to some extent, the owner. The selfish gamble probably won't pay off.
You may not enjoy that particular forum/site, but you sure could learn from it. Then again, why would you want to know anything about baseball when you don't have to cover it?

Oh, my gawd. You mean it was hard for the Astros to get to Milwaukee?
The people of Galveston surely sympathize.
Keep whining, along with the Astros. It's been more than a week now.

Then why play the games at all at that time? Why force the issue? Why publish a garbage article concerning such a thing? I'm not whining about this issue anymore than you are reporting an opinion that doesn't make sense or have any relevance. Brandon Backe is from Galveston. I'm sure your crack reporting skills knew this already. You are either missing the point, or would rather have a job in Chicago, Mariotti's perhaps?
Richard Justice is hardly ever right on things Astros, but he sure understands more clearly than you. If you're so worried about the people of Galveston, write a column meaningful to them, instead of an inflammatory piece concerning classless decisions made by baseball players, brought on by horrible decisions by commissioners/owners. If it's been a week, it's old news right? Concentrate on some more Spurs offseason news about thugs they didn't acquire, or the Silver Stars playoffs or something (or not.)

I tried to bait him into saying it but, what you see is what I got.

Buck Harvey has been an Astros ankle-biter since I was there 25 years ago. He's not worth reading much less arguing with.

NO, DUMBSHIT, THE ASTROS DON'T KEEP TALKING ABOUT IT...
Harvey's article, published today, references a quote from Berkman originally published in THIS (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6005644.html) JdJO article from 9/16. After Selig's ad appeared in the Chronicle over the weekend, JdJO published another article on 9/21 (With Selig, it's all about money) (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6013839.html) recycling the same exact quotes from Berkman and Brocail as he'd used in the previous piece 5 days earlier (of course without noting that these quotes were not in response to the Selig ad). It is this secondary article that folks seem to be picking up on when claiming that the Astros "can't let go."
What no one bothers to note, however (because it doesn't go along with their theme that the Astros are cry babies), are Berkmans comments a couple of days later (McTaggart's blog). (http://blogs.chron.com/gamedayastros/2008/09/berkman_says_ike_not_to_blame.html)
"I don't care if there's a hurricane or not, we've just stunk at a really bad time," he said. "That's all you can say about it. When we're looking back at this season and what-if, you can think that we didn't play good when we had to.
"And you can think back to other stretches we had this year when we didn't play well. The reason you play 162 games is to sort out who has the best team in the long haul, not who has the best in a month and a half."
Bottom line is that this is typical JdJO 'reporting' (i.e. trying to stir shit up - "Toxic time for Astros" - etc.), and pure laziness on the part of Harvey for writing a column and using the Berkman comments as if they were 'new,' without bothering to research the quotes and determine that they were made on the 2nd day of the Milwaukee 'home' series...

I remember when he was climbing the trees in the westend of Memorial Stadium in Austin as an editor of The Daily Texan trying to stop the construction equipment from beginning the expansion of the stadium in the early 70's. Obviously no connection to this issue but just an anecdote.
