Title: Danks back to UT?
Post by: austro on August 13, 2008, 02:11:31 pm
Sounds like Danks (and his father) are taking a pretty hard line with the White Sox. (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2008/08/12/danks_could_ret.html)

Is there a correlation between his dad and him falling to the 6th round when he was top 75 on "most all" draft boards?

Not hard to believe based on the quotes in the paper.

Every quote from the article is from the Elder.

Interesting that big bro was previously a Bora$$ client (http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-white-sox.html).

Speaking of draft signees, has Justin Smoak signed yet with the rangers?

Papa Danks is crazy if he thinks Jordan will begin his career in the South Atlantic League

Smoak hasn't signed yet, but they're still talking and will probably get it done before the deadline.  I imagine he's waiting until some of the other top picks sign.  If the list I'm looking at is correct, only 2 picks out of the top 10 have signed so far.

Can't be.  I know Beckham, Skipworth, & Castro have signed off the top of my head

Looks like BA has one that appears to be accurate

The list I was looking at was right also, I just missed Skipworth.  3 out of the top 10 have signed.

There's something horribly wrong when this guy isn't a pitcher.

hearing this makes me happy about how diligent the stros were about signing their guys. Only one we havent signed ins that Davidson kid so far.

I think the Giants only have 4 or 5 of their top 15 signed right?

Passing on some greedy kids last year may be making this year's negotiations a little easier.  The kids will have a genuine concern that the Astros will walk away if they push too hard.

If he was a pitcher, then I'm sure bloony would love to be his catcher.

I don't think so.  New group running things with new standards for drafting.  They knew exactly what they were doing and who they were targeting.
