Aflac trivia: who is the all time wins leader from Venezuela?
-
Wow, Berkman should have been dead at third.
-
That's some aggressive base running by Berkman, and I'm not sure aggressive is the right word.
-
They're going to walk Loretta to set up the DP with Pence.
-
Well, at least it wasn't a DP.
-
Bottom 4: Santana (perfect through 3)
Kazmat: line drive stand up triple over PRW's head in leftish center (10 pitch at bat). None out, Kazmat at 3B.

Spaz: struck out swinging on change up on the low inside corner (9 pitch at bat). 2 outs, bases still juiced.

Answer to Aflac trivia: Freddy Garcia (117)
-
Good at-bat by Pence. He laid off the double-play pitches early and spoiled some good stuff. Santana threw him a wicked change to finish him off. Great battle by Spaz.

End 5: NYM 4, HOU 1
Santana pitch count: 78 (52/26)
-
Good at-bat by Pence. He laid off the double-play pitches early and spoiled some good stuff. Santana threw him a wicked change to finish him off. Great battle by Spaz.
Yes, I didn't give him enough credit there when I said "at least it wasn't a DP". It was a good AB and he foiled a number of pitches. Santan's good and finally beat him.
-
Top 6: Oswalt still on the mound
Murphy: 1 bounce chopper way to Loretta's left, squares up and makes a nice throw to Berkman for the out. 1 out, none on. (Byrdak warming up on the mound).

Tejada: singles past Delgado up the right field line on 0-1 pitch. None out, runner on 1B.

Lee: sharply hit ball to right, Tatis in the correct place to make that play. 2 outs, runner on 1B.
Loretta: another well hit ball to right (2-0 pitch), Tatis backs up to make an easy play for the 3rd out.

Hawkins, making his debut for The Good Guys, in for Byrdak

Tatis: struck out looking on 3-2 pitch. 3 outs.
Middle 7: NYM 4, HOU 1

And THIS is what happens when I don't post since the spring.
What happened to the old address?
Good game by Stem so far, but no lead is safe at this ballpark.
Ouch, Erstad gets plunked and two are on with no outs.
-
Stem "ace" is not looking good this inning, and the Stem pen sadly is quite horrid, as everyone saw last night. :'(
-
Santana's "homecoming" ends in the middle of the 7th.
-
Bottom 7: Santana pitching
Spaz: walked on 3-2 pitch. None out, runner at 1B. Mets bullpen starting to stir.
Erstad: hit by pitch on 0-2 count. None out, runners at 1B and 2B.
Ausmus (Wigginton on deck): flied out to left (too shallow for anyone to advance). 1 out, runners at 1B and 2B. JD surprised that Cop didn't have Ausmus bunt on that AB.
Wigginton announced as PH, Mets go to the pen
Bottom 7 (1 out, runners at 1B and 2B): NYM 4, HOU 1
-
What happened to the old address?
Changed it just before opening day (4/1)
-
WOW! I mean stinks for you guys, but FREAKING WOW!

End 7: NYM 4, HOU 1
-
Too many complaints about the "ass" part?
Roy's pitching?
-

End 7: NYM 4, HOU 1
Freaking Pence. He has the baseball IQ of Forrest Gump.
-
Roy's pitching?
Why the address change, too many complaints about having "ass" in the site name.
-
Freaking Pence. He has the baseball IQ of Forrest Gump.
And the baserunning IQ of a big puma...
-

Middle 8: NYM 4, HOU 1
-
Why the address change, too many complaints about having "ass" in the site name.
Not at all. Just a move into a bit of a more mainstream site that can showcase our outstanding features, like the Bus Ride for instance.
-
Why the address change, too many complaints about having "ass" in the site name.
Knew what you meant... 'Mainstreaming' I guess (think it is discussed in the 'Site Manifesto,' and helped to allow some pretty cool things this year such as the 'Round the Bases' series (in which announcers for the minor league teams have answered a series of questions which are posted on this site - pretty cool, oughtta check 'em out), etc.
-
Kazuo Matsui slams a homer to cut the lead in half.
I'm sorry but,
DAMN!
-
On the New York TV, discussion has started of getting one of your "favorite" former Astro gas cans up for a 4 out save.
-
Fagner, as a Met message board refers to him, is not warming up though.
-
Fagner, as a Met message board refers to him, is not warming up though.

Pitching coach visits the mound
-
that was one of the craziest things i've ever seen
-
WOW! :o
BTW, Newhan is an ex-Stem not listed in the preview. He was briefly a Met last spring.
-
Loretta on the fullback dive through the hole, Pence hits the hole for the tying score.
-
that was one of the craziest things i've ever seen
another game for spaz
-
that was fucking nuts.
-
that was fucking nuts.
What happened?
-
Did Spaz carve up Loretta?
-
What happened?
spaz ty cobb-worthy spike of loretta
-
What happened?
Astros tie the game on a 21 dive.
-
Bottom 9 (1 out, bases juiced)

Blum (PH for Geary): ball- inside, appeal to 1B denied) (1-0), half-swinging strike (1-1), line drive in to shallow left, Loretta hanging out slightly at 3B to make sure it falls, Loretta trips coming home, gets up, Pence right on his tail, throw home, Loretta barrels into Castro who drops the ball(C), SAFE, Pence slides immediately behind Loretta on a different angle, SAFE, Newhan to 2B. NYM 4, HOU 4.

And Newhan should be on third.
-
Bottom 9 (1 out, runners at 1B and 2B): NYM 4, HOU 4
Matsui: two strikes (one way or another), watches strike 3- fastball straight down the pipe.
Bottom 9 (2 outs, runners at 1B and 2B): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
Line drive to left, Loretta apparently thought it could be caught, so he headed back to third. Pence was off with the swing, and Loretta stumbled after tagging third. So Loretta and Pence arrived at home plate almost simultaneously, clobbering the Mets' catcher (can't remember hit name). Both of them are safe, so the game is tied.
-
And Newhan should be on third.
Was wondering how he didn't get there but was too busy typing to see...
-
Bottom 9 (1 out, bases juiced)
Newhan in for Ausmus at 1B as pinch runner
Blum (PH for Geary): ball- inside, appeal to 1B denied) (1-0), half-swinging strike (1-1), line drive in to shallow left, Loretta hanging out slightly at 3B to make sure it falls, Loretta trips coming home, gets up, Pence right on his tail, throw home, Loretta barrels into Castro who drops the ball(C), SAFE, Pence slides immediately behind Loretta on a different angle, SAFE, Newhan to 2B. Castro (C) injured on the play
Bottom 9 (1 out, runners at 1B and 2B): NYM 4, HOU 4
Hell, it reads crazy.
-
Our descriptions don't do justice to the craziness of the play.
The fact that it happened against Gascan Wagner makes it that much sweeter.
-
Bottom 9 (2 outs, runners at 1B and 2B): NYM 4, HOU 4
Tejada: Flied out to right center. 3 outs.
End 9: NYM 4, HOU 4
Free baseball!!!
-
pence's expression after that play reminded me of the special ed kids at the bowling alley. all that was missing was the teacher assistant yelling "allright hunter!" after the 7th gutter ball in a row.
-
Was wondering how he didn't get there but was too busy typing to see...
He bought the deek.
-
I'm hoping to see the replay on mlb.
-
wait
-
Hell, it reads crazy.
Was tryin' hard to call that one for you Ron, and yes it was as crazy as it reads. Worth forcing yourself to watch ESPN to catch the replay for sure!
-

Thanks, I appreciate it. Looking forward to the replay for sure. Is Loretta ok?
-
Thanks, I appreciate it. Looking forward to the replay for sure. Is Loretta ok?
perhaps the funniest thing about that play was loretta and the met catcher laying on the ground in pain after the slide, while spaz is obliviously jumping up and down doing his special olympics routine
-
Thanks, I appreciate it. Looking forward to the replay for sure. Is Loretta ok?
Know they said it looked like he could have hurt himself, but was too busy trying to 'explain' the play to look up / catch anything definitive. Blum stayed in the game for Loretta at 3B however...
-
Top 10: Valverde pitching, Q comes in as catcher to replace Loretta in the 5 hole, Blum stays in at 3B.

Middle 10: NYM 4, HOU 4
Time for Berkman to break the month long homer drought in the bottom of this inning!!!
-
perhaps the funniest thing about that play was loretta and the met catcher laying on the ground in pain after the slide, while spaz is obliviously jumping up and down doing his special olympics routine
That and the fact that gas can coughed up the lead.
-
And Newhan should be on third.
i figured he was watching the plays at home instead of paying attention to being on 3rd. if that is a pinch runner substitution that is suppose to be better, it wasn't.
-
That and the fact that gas can coughed up the lead.
i told a friend of mine that supports the Mets that I no longer hated Wagner.
-
Mets cable station just showed a nice dish of nachos being prepared.
Mmmmmm....
I've been taking road trips to see the Stems in various cities (I'm a Stem fan living in NYC) and gone to Chicago, San Diego and Philly.
Thinking 2009 will be time for a Texas holiday!
-
Bottom 10: Heilman pitching
Berkman: ball- high? (0-1), foul- off the catchers mask (1-1), called strike- slider (1-2), ball- inside (2-2), ball- tight, appeal to 3B denied (3-2), ball- low outside. WALKED. None out, runner at 1B.
Bottom 10 (none out, runner at 1B): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
Thanks, I appreciate it. Looking forward to the replay for sure. Is Loretta ok?
That was a fucking crazy play. My guess is Loretta hurt his right leg when he slid into home and the spikes on his right foot got caught in the dirt and he kind of rolled over it. I think it was that more than anything that caused him to barrel roll into the catcher.
-
Castro is out of the game for the Stems with a "light ankle strain"
-
Bottom 10 (none out, runner at 1B): NYM 4, HOU 4
Bourn in the on-deck circle, outfielders playing no doubles
Lee: strike (0-1), ball (1-1)m blooped single into center, Berkman putting on the jets to get to 3B. None out, runners at the corners.
Bottom 10 (none out, runners at the corners): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
Mets going to the pen for a lefty to face Bourn.
Bottom 10 (none out, runners at the corners): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
Castro is out of the game for the Stems with a "light ankle strain"
Looks like he twisted it as he fell back after the fridge Loretta rolled into him.
-
Isn't Jose Feliciano blind?
-
Bottom 10 (none out, runners at the corners): LHP Pedro Feliciano (2-2), on the mound to face Bourn
Bourn: called strike (0-1), ball- low outside (1-1), foul (1-2), swinging strikeout - low and away. 1 out, runners at 1B and 3B.
Bottom 10 (1 out, runners at 1B and 3B): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
Bottom 10 (1 out, runners at 1B and 3B):
Pence: Intentionally walked. 1 out, bases juiced.
Bottom 10 (1 out, bases juiced): NYM 4, HOU 4
-
I kind of wish Coop had gone with Backe instead of Bourn there.
-
I kind of wish Coop had gone with Backe instead of Bourn there.
I wish coop hadn't pr for ausmus and been able to use newhan there.
-
Isn't Jose Feliciano blind?
if you read my game recap from yesterday you would know that its not Jose but Pedro pitching.
-
anyone else think intentional walks mess up pitchers?
i sure hope they do enough to get an rbi for erstad
-
Isn't Jose Feliciano blind?
Yep, but he's a lefty so it doesn't matter.
JD was saying earlier that the steM have a musical pitching staff. Santana, Feliciano...
-
if you read my game recap from yesterday you would know that its not Jose but Pedro pitching.
Ahhh, sorry, I figured it was too good to be true.
-
Attaboy Darin!
Ballgame.
-
i was worried that berkman was hurt for a while
-
Oh shit! Is Twinkie hurt now??
-
Stros win.
WHERE THE HECK WERE YOU THROWING THAT THING TATIS?
-
Good baserunning by Berkman going first to third on Lee's basehit and tagging on Erstad's sac.
-
Love these late wins against the steM.
-
i'm glad billy wagner is on opposing teams now.
-
My flavourometer just went off. And it's not on vibrate.
-
Bottom 10 (one out, bases juiced): NYM 4, HOU 4
Erstad: ball- almost gets away from the catcher (1-0), called strike (1-1), ball- way outside, nice stop by the catcher to keep that one from getting away (2-1), ball (3-1), called strike- Erstad looking all the way (3-2), foul (3-2), lines a screamer to left, Tatis has to leave his feet to make the play (out #2), Berkman tags and makes it home for the score (throw not close).
BALLGAME: NYM 4, HOU 5

I can't get used to it. He's still Twinkie to me. Both because of that Wrigley story he tells and because it seems to suit his personality.

Any other crews out there besides Lee's and Berkman's?
Also, I guess the "buzzing" has been retired huh?
-

Buzzing retired (hopefully forever) with pigpen.
Like Lee's crew ("Los Cabalitos").
Roy still has the "O's Bros".
Not sure if they've come up with "Hunter's Honeys" yet, but'd like to see that...
Gotta run, later days!
