"...this is something that we agreed to do because Fox really wanted it. So it was kind of an olive branch thing.
We agreed to do it, but I don’t think any of us agrees with it per se."

Except LaGenius' girlfriend, who just doesn't give enough of a shit to agree or disagree.

To St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols, the whole debate is silly.
“Who cares?” he said. “You’re in the World Series.”
Damn, hate it when Pujols makes some sense. Fuck the Cards.
-
The solution is simple. Best overall record gets home field advantage, with one exception: if the NL representative is the team from StL, the AL team always gets the advantage. It seems a little unfair, but it doesn't matter anyway. You're in the freakin' World Series!

Several problems with that method. Teams from either league don't play the same competition, so it's hardly fair. Secondly, I can see it now...last series of the year, the top NL team trails the top AL team in record by one game...the top NL team is playing the last place NL team and for some reason the last place team rolls over for a sweep...hmmmm.
-
How about home field based on which league team won the series in the previous year, AL or NL team.

That way Fox can say "This time, it counts" about the World Series, and people would have a reason to watch something they wouldn't otherwise watch. Joe Buck already told us how long and boring baseball is.

how about which ever team hit the most home runs over the season gets home field? and not just those pussy liberal democrat pop-fly, wind-aided, crawford box home runs, but those types of cock-rock, freedom fries-loving, spit-on-those-punks-from-canada long balls that the chicks dig.

Solution: Ping Pong balls!

There needs to be a formula:
{(Home runs X Steals)/(Strike outs + errors )}+ (sacrifice flies-triples) all multiplied by the number of times on ESPN Sunday night baseball

Make-it, take-it, in other words.

The schedules aren't fair now. Such is life in an unbalanced schedule, interleague type of world. It doesn't cause a problem with playoff seeding.
As far as the laying down for another team so they could enjoy HFA, only think this would have been a problem before the 1980's. No NL team really gives two shits about another NL team winning the whole thing. It's not like the rivalry between the leagues exists anywhere besides message boards. Free agency kind of killed this years ago.

The league affiliation of whatever MLBer Alyssa Milano is fellating at the trade deadline.

It would be hard to imagin the astro throwin the last series of the year to give the cardinal or the cub home field.

They're "fairer", in that at least the teams from the NL play mostly other NL teams. I realize that different divisions don't play the same interleague opponents.

I disagree. I'd rather HFA in the World Series decided before the last week of the season.

I never said a team would "throw" anything. I said they might lay down. Not be as focused. Start thinking about their golf match tomorrow. Not lay out for a line drive like they would in April. These things already happen. I'd rather avoid things like that affecting HFA in the World Series.

Shouldn't pi be in there somewhere?
"E to the u du dx,
E to the x, dx.
Cosine, secant, tangent, sine,
3 point 1 4 1 5 9."

MMMMMM pie

I guess I'm the only one who never had a problem with just alternating every year. That seemed perfectly fair to me.
-
I'm only surprised that they haven't auctioned off the naming rights for a selection show. The Home Depot Home Field Advantage, presented by Starbucks.

Coin toss would be fine with me.

nope. add me to that list.

Me too. I'll take arbitrary over bullshit every time.

I'd rather alternate, but I guess I'm the only one on the list who isn't outraged by the ASG winner getting it. Of course, I have the feeling if anyone other than Bud Selig had proposed the idea, it would be lauded as genius. It's a horrible idea, not because of its merits, but because of the irrational hatred for Selig.

I disagree, but I also had no problem with alternating.
The problem I have with the ASG deciding it is that I don't think an exhibition should decide something that could actually help determine a champion. Just as silly in my mind as letting Spring Training results determine seeding.

It also has to bear the cross of being the fig leaf that Selig put on in an attempt to cover up his fuckwittery at the famous tied ASG.

No, it's a horrible idea because it instills import in an otherwise meaningless game meant to reward players and amuse fans.
Wow, Dempster is dealing. Not a super-familiar feeling to be rooting for a Cub.
