Hey, who let Road Wandy out of the locker room?
-
So does giving up my tickets to the game because I have to work all night count as a proper sacrifice to add a few marbles into the Astros' side of the BBG's karma scale?
-
Good evening, ladies and germs. I will now endeavor to sacrifice the first Pilsner Urquell of the evening to whatever etherial Powers that May Be in an entirely benevolent and non-controversial manner.

It counts extra when their giving out Big Puma T-Shirts as the give away. They look good.

WTF is a patented two-out scoring...hit?
-
Q is out cold
-
Right on the top of the head. Good thing he was wearing a helmet.
-
Who is the #3 catcher?
-
Q is out cold
Blum's heart rate is up. 8 more innings as the backup.
-
Blum's heart rate is up. 8 more innings as the backup.
He nearly had to come in a few weeks ago when Q had come in to replace a pinched hit for Ausmus, and the Q took a foul off the nads.
-
If Q has a concussion this could be a mess.
-
If Q has a concussion this could be a mess.
If Q has a concussion, I think Spack should track down Jose Cruz III and conk him on the head with a bat.
-
If Q has a concussion this could be a mess.
He's a little loopy, I'm sure, but it's probably just precaution.
-
If Q has a concussion, I think Spack should track down Jose Cruz III and conk him on the head with a bat.
And in the nads for good measure.
-
Man I already had a headache, watching that injury just amplified it.
-
Can somebody explain to Wandy that jabbing at the bunt doesn't work? Shit, we might as well have him fake the bunt and swing away like he did last week.
-
Hope Q doesn't have a concussion. Astros' medical stuff is likely to treat him for back acne.

Their stuff must be sticky.

JD anticipates the return of Towles. Let's hope he keeps his home run swing in his suitcase.
-
no wonder he kept walking kent.
-
Hey, who let Road Wandy out of the locker room?
No kidding...
-
Well, if this isn't a game where the offense and bullpen need to step up, I don't know what is.
-
Q with a mild concussion - being taken to Methodist Hospital
that's, what, III astros
in the last II days?
-
Looks like the Dojers have all the bats tonight.
-
that's, what, III astros
in the last II days?
I bet you Jose Cruz III still doesn't *get* it.

He certainly got the attention he craved, didn't he?
-
that's, what, III astros
in the last II days?
Let's hope that the III injuries is the BBGs little joke and that they're now finished with us.
-
Didn't take long to get on the bullpen. Nice work boys.
-
And Wigginton with the 3 run opposite field shot. End 6, LAD 6, HOU 4.
-
Let's hope that the III injuries is the BBGs little joke and that they're now finished with us.
Rex out to visit Byrdak. Not so fast, say the BBGs.
-
SI SE PUEDE!
-
Caballo! Off the glove 2 run game tying score with two outs.
-
Damn that was close. Thought Young might have had that one...
2-run double for El Caballo. End 7: LAD 6, HOU 6!
-
Nice comeback for the hometown 9.

Carlos Lee makes them pay for the IBB.

Heard Q's injury on the radio and tried to access the video on Astros.com, but it has been removed. Was it on the front or back swing?

Back swing on an inside pitch. He was moving inside on the RH batter, hit him right on the top of his head. Went down immediately and didn't move.

Thanks, Milo and Thing One (or was is Thing Two?) had no idea what happened, then I had to get out of the car.

I liked that All-Star game commercial the first couple of times I saw it, but the last 400 have been torture.

I like how Berkman is the first player shown, but I also assume that's a regional thing.

Q update:
CT Scan is negative, but he'll stay at Methodist for observation.
Q WILL go on the DL, Towles WILL be called up.
-
Brownie just announced Q to DL, Towles coming up.
ETA: Late again.
-
Q update: CT scan came back negative and he'll stay at the hospital overnight for observation. Additionally, he'll be put on the DL and Towles is being called back from RR.
-
Damn I'm slow tonight...
ETA: I know it's hard to do, but lay off the hanging curve here Ms. Doe...
-
Maza needs to get drilled.

Maza needs to get drilled.
Maza knew he'd popped Q pretty good, as he turned around and looked at Q for a number of steps as he was running to 1B on the play.

See PENCE!!!, slider.
-
Good lord, Michael is fast.
Geary has been pitching well. It would be a verrah nice outing if he could close it out here. His defense is helping him out to do so.
-
See PENCE!!!, slider.
Nah, those look enticing but usually result in Ks. I pretty much set Jane up for a shot to the train tracks with that comment (hence hanging curve...).
-

Anytime your swing or followthrough gets interrupted you'll look to see why. He just seems to have an extraordinarily wide and looping followthrough, although Q was coming out of his crouch a little too.
Ok. Maza needs to have his cap spun. Better?
-
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE HUNTER, JESUS
-
Fucking Spazz, but that was a classic clusterfuck of poor luck. Can't really blame either in when it's so in between, but that's a hell of a job to hang on to the ball by Loretta after the collision. I hope he's okay. Newhan as the everyday secondbasemen is a frosty thought.
-
Well, bleep, that was some collision.
Please, BBB's, we have repented. Have mercy on us.
-
Damn I'm slow tonight...
I typed out my response and hit preview, noticed three replies, then hit cancel.
Ah crap, Loretta was Spazzed.
-
Ah crap, Loretta was Spazzed.
POTWA and Glossary submission.
-
Spaz is going to kill somebody one of these days.
-
Well, bleep, that was some collision.
Please, BBB's, we have repented. Have mercy on us.
If the team loses Loretta and Q tonight, after dinging Oswalt and Valverde the night before, some serious Spack needs to be doled out to JCIII.
-
Spaz is going to kill somebody one of these days.
SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH................................
-
I think Brownie and JD are missing the critical point: Blum is the emergency catcher. If Coop pinch hits him here, he's pretty exposed for extra innings.

Unless it's a double switch.

Who will go in for Loretta? Newhan was used.
-
Who will go in for Loretta? Newhan was used.
Is he for sure coming out of the game?
-
Who will go in for Loretta? Newhan was used.
That happened before he got here.
Full disclosure: I have an irrational dislike of David Newhan.
-
Is he for sure coming out?
We don't know nuthin.
-
From the way he was laughing in the dugout he'll probably stay in the game.
-
why the hell are jeter and ARod wearing suits in that All-Star ad?
-
Time to introduce Mr. Park to Mr. Crawford Box.
-
We don't know nuthin.
I know one thing, I do not like only 5 men on the bench. What happened to 10 man pitching staffs? Have a couple of rubber armed long men.
-
why the hell are jeter and ARod wearing suits in that All-Star ad?
Because Jeter is already on the side of the building in uniform.
-
Is that fucking LaRussa over there managing the Dodgers? How many pitching changes have there been?
-
Nice hustle by Spaz.
-

You modified that last sentence just in time.

What is he, a Barbie?

What is he, a Barbie?
Yankee Ken.

Just saw the note that Berkman has never had a walkoff hit. Find that hard to believe (but as I think about it, can't remember one...).
-

And he keeps the streak alive.

Free baseball! Courtesy your home town nine's offense, defense and bullpen. Nice job climbing back into this one no matter how it turns out.

Definitely.

When is the last time we have seen an Astro pitcher have to play a position? I'm voting for Backe if it comes to that.
-
Back up a little bit, Brad.
-
When is the last time we have seen an Astro pitcher have to play a position?
You're asking us, O Sage of Trivial Astros Facts?

I remember Oswalt playing left several years ago. Then again, I remember a lot of things that never happened.
-
One near the ear, Wesley.
-
Sampson would be a good possibility.
-
FSH just pulled the plug on the feed on DirecTV, had to switch to FSSW.
-
Ok, this Maza guy officially pisses me off.
-
You're asking us, O Sage of Trivial Astros Facts?
Free baseball, free trivia.
-
I'm tired of Maza already. I'm glad Furcal isn't playing, but this guy reminds me of the Pissant a little too much.
-
Sampson would be a good possibility.
Forgot about him. Good choice. I was thinking starters only.
-
Scott Elarton, 1999.

Forgot about him. Good choice. I was thinking starters only.
Which'd be the better choice, as you'd want your relievers available to pitch.
-
Man, I love Wesley. What an amazing contributer to this team.
-
Great job, Kiddo!
-
Man, I love Wesley. What an amazing contributer to this team.
Plus, he's captain of the 8th grade debate team!
But yes, I'm a big fan too.
-

I've seen a pitcher switch between pitching and a position in the same inning. Been a few years. Like 30+

Ah, I overlooked him. Nice job.

Didn't the Mets do that in the '86 LCS, maybe with McDowell and Sid Fernandez or Franco or somebody?
-
Miggy seems lost.
-
Miggy seems lost.
See ball, hit ball.
-
Ah, I overlooked him. Nice job.
I still can't find the game where it happened.
-
Hell yeah! Nice slide Carlos!
-
Dear Maza,
Friendly advice: get the hell out of Carlos Lee's way when you see him coming.
Sincerely,
Adam Everett
-
So this will be Wright's last outing for three days, I guess.
-
Didn't the Mets do that in the '86 LCS, maybe with McDowell and Sid Fernandez or Franco or somebody?
Ok, here's the game I was thinking of. Regular season, McDowell and Jesse Orosco rotated between OF and pitching for a few innings.

He gets sent out seemingly every day. Every fourth one seems shaky (not a scientific observation).
-

I seem to remember that was during a regular season game.
ETA: you found it.
-
Fucking Kent. How did he just get enough of that one?
-
Fuck.
-
Well, bleep.
-
Damn you, Jeff Kent!
-
He gets sent out seemingly every day. Every fourth one seems shaky (not a scientific observation).
Was this the fourth?
-
Damn you, Jeff Kent!
I blame JaneDoe's title. It was destiny.
-
Was this the fourth?
Not scientific! But, he did pitch the last three days, unless I'm very mistaken.
Still, he's not shaky tonight. Just one pitch left just close enough that Kent could get just enough of it. Other than that, he's pitched very sharply.
-
I blame JaneDoe title. It was destiny.
I was just waiting for someone to say that. Shoulda known it would be you.
-
I blame JaneDoe's title. It was destiny.
So sad and true.

Was this the fourth?
Tonight is the third night in a row.
-
Time for the Astros to give The Kid a little pick me up here!
-
I seem to remember that was during a regular season game.
ETA: you found it.
And Bobby Cox stashed a righty in the OF for one batter earlier this year.

So, I take it Mr. Doe is a happy man this half inning?
-
I blame JaneDoe's title. It was destiny.
"Destiny! Destiny! No escaping that for me! Destiny! Destiny! No escaping that for me!"
-
I swear, these Japanese pitchers and their windups remind me of the Negro League pitchers. They need to break out the four foot long mitts and the rocking chair for the catcher to complete the circus.
-
So sad and true.
Well, BLEEP me. Sorry guys.
-
Well, rats.
-
Well crap...
-
Ah well. That was a fun one. Go get 'em tomorrow.
-
Time to go pound some Budweiser.
-
I still can't find the game where it happened.
I found it here (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1999/B06130HOU1999.htm). Originally it was the Dierker seizure game, played 6 weeks later in the completion of the suspended game. He never actually played CF that day, according to the PBP.

And Lima at 3B?
Same thing, inserted in the lineup but never played 3B.
-
Same thing, inserted in the lineup but never played 3B.
Yeah, I got that, but I can't believe that anyone here would have forgotten that. I mean the roar of laughter from the crowd when he ran out to 3B had to be deafening.

They never actually went out there, as far as I know. The game resumed with one out in the 8th, just after Bagwell struck out (6 weeks before). They were listed at those positions when the Astros were batting.

Well, shoot. Back to the drawing board.

Does that have something to do with certain guys (from June 13) no longer being on the active roster? Otherwise I don't understand why they would appear in the batting order at all.

That's what I was attempting to find out, but the wifey needs me for something else. Priorities.
I suspect it was just a ploy by Dierker, call it a jalapeƱo moment.
