Title: John Adams
Post by: Taras Bulba on June 11, 2008, 08:41:42 am
The missus rented the dvd with the first two episodes of the highly acclaimed HBO series.  Outstanding stuff.  I'm not sure Giamatti will ever have the opportunity to play a better role and he certainly took advantage of it.  Highly fascinating was the depiction of the Boston Massacre and the trial and Adams' defense of the accused British soldiers.

I was very sad when it ended. This should be used in high school history classes. Excellent stuff.

I watched the entire series and loved it. My only complaint is that they didn't make more episodes.

HBO specials and movies are always excellent.  This was no exception.  Giamatti and Linney were superb.

I'd like to see the history of everything done HBO style.

When I think of Giamatti, I think of a left handed heavyweight contender--nobody wants to fight him, or in this case share the screen with him.  He will flat out steal the scene.

There are many outstanding scenes in the series, but my favorite thus far is Adams' presentation/meeting with George III.  Highly entertaining.

I'm still pissed at Deadwood's passing.  Criminal.

That was a powerful scene.

I also thought that David Morse did a subtle and nicely understated turn as George Washington.

As am I.  Maybe this will help stem your frustration:

I guess that would be a different take than this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKxnaMeOK20)?

For a long time, I could not think of Giamatti as anything other than "Pig Vomit".  I don't know when that went away, but it did.

I've just finished ripping season 1 of Deadwood to my iPhone.  Business trips will not have any dull moments any more.
