Title: Chacon
Post by: Dobro on May 27, 2008, 10:34:57 pm
Did anyone expect this kind of performance from Chacon when the season opened?  He's been a big surprise to me.  Nice to see him stepping up when some of the other key arms are struggling or hurt.

I was surprised he signed so late,  but I am very impressed with him. Out of starters with 10+ starts in the majors he has the fewest losses with 0.

Nah, I don't think anyone expected this good of results out of the gate.  Certainly if they did he would have been locked up in November.  That being said it's not extremely shocking Chacon could put together a nice streak of solid performances.  He has shown in his career the ability to be effective.  The big question mark is his effectiveness when the innings start to pile up(as he has never approached 200 innings.)  He had 160 in his rookie season and hasn't broke 137 since.   The good news is no one knows how he will do as he approaches 200, he's only 30 so age shouldn't be a factor.  So one can still hope for the best here.

If the rogues gallery posts in the woods, and everyone has them on ignore, are they really posting?

I didn't, but I remember JimR stating that he'd heard positive reports about Chacon in spring training.  That perked my interest a bit.  I'm sure this has been talked about plenty around here (don't get by near as much as I used to), but I'm extremely impressed with Ed Wade's offseason moves.  We ought to nickname the guy "King Midas".

my Phillies guy, who is not nearly as smart as the original poster of course, told me in ST that "Chacon can pitch and will help the Astros."

Huh?  Did someone post something?

The 2 initial posters are ignored by a combined 33 members.

At least I'm guessing that's what he was referring to, who heck knows what Zipp's talking about these days.  The heat's getting to all of us.

Apparently so since you're still a reader, thanks.

Chacon's been a nice surprise to me. What I've really liked are (a) his consistency, (b) his ability to log some innings and (c) that he's given us a chance to win every start. You can't ask anymore out of any starter than that folks.
