just a day off for bourn?
-
just a day off for bourn?
and Matsui. Yeah. Coop is sidling up to Tejada.
-
Gunther leading off against someone with a +++ curve and nothing else.
This doesn't sound...good.
-
just a day off for bourn?
I bet he is a bit sore.
-
Cruz and Loretta need the ABs. Especially Chieto.
-
and Matsui. Yeah. Coop is sidling up to Tejada.
i heard about matsui choosing his off-day, so didn't expect to see him in the lineup...
but, with bourn also out, this is just a huge change with pence leading off...and it is cooper's 1st choice in 3 possible lineups for tonight.
(according to a jdjo's blog)
this should be interesting. glad it's not permanent, though.

Pence shouldnt think he's the leadoff hitter, he should ignore all the stuff about taking pitches and working the count and just hack at the first "fastball" he sees.
-
lots of unknowns.
oswalt "admits" that he's trying to induce more contact
with the pitches he's throwing this year
(don't think he means the home-run kind, though)
what does he need to be thinking while he's up there
on the mound tonight?

Egads...he went through this last year. He's a better pitcher when he's aggressive. I understand pitching to contact, but I think it makes him tenative.

"Feels kinda sexy... that dont make me gay?..."
-
"Feels kinda sexy... that dont make me gay?..."
just throw, meat.
he's got berkman on standup-by to help him keep his head straight.
-
Crap, the SF feed on EI. Getting the game in HD is little consolation...
-
It is always exciting to see Roy start. Lineup machinations aside, that is what has me eager for the game to begin.
-
is anyone else not getting the game in HD with the houston feed..
its supposed to be, but uh..its not

My guide says it's supposed to be on Fox SW in Dallas but all I got is Horns Spring game...Chiles reminds of a little VY...but wtf I want Stros.
-
someone at FSSW evidently just flipped the HD switch..
its coming through now
-
Somebody is hitting better than the Astros in May?
-
Berkman with the bat and glove tonight
-
Suck it, Dayn Perry.
-
Career vs Zito:
Cruz 2-22
Erstad 13-49
-
Cruz 2-22
Oh now you've gone and ruined my big hopes for Cheito tonight with your stastics.
-
look at the big bat on brad!
-
Oh now you've gone and ruined my big hopes for Cheito tonight with your stastics.
That made 1500 hits for Ausmus. Feel better?
-
look at the big bat on brad!
I don't think you'll get to, hope as you might.
-
That made 1500 hits for Ausmus. Feel better?
Immensley, silly to ever doubt.
-
I don't think you'll get to, hope as you might.
that's BudGirl.
i don't look...i'm married!
-
that's BudGirl.
i don't look...i'm married!
I know BG's obsession, but I've yet to hear the woman that doesn't consider him easy on the eyes.
-
yeah, i know a lot of women that love him.
if i have to look, though, it's not at brad.
nttawwt

THAT would be why you want Bourn in CF.
-
Cruz had no business diving for that ball and had he fielded it cleanly the runner would not have scored
-
THAT would be why you want Bourn in CF.
Yeah, it's kind of a huge outfield in SF to give your CF a day off for the offenisve upgrade that is Cruz.
-
I don't think you'll get to, hope as you might.
yoda, is that you?
-
Yeah, it's kind of a huge outfield in SF to give your CF a day off for the offenisve upgrade that is Cruz.
Bitch, bitch, bitch.
-
Damn. Getting good contact on Zito but nada to show for it... Yet!
-
If Cruz had not dived it would have been a single, and the runner would have score. He decided the ball would not be caught and was running before it landed. Watch the game boys.
-

Not that good. The timing is off for most of them.
-

Yep, nevermind... [Spent a bit of time trying to justify my comment, but was SOL].
-
Today's lineup isn't exactly giving me that "Si Se Puede" kinda vibe. Sure would feel better if we could get something going with the top of the lineup in the 6th.
-
That looked like a hit and run pitch to Berkman. If so, that is strange and borderline nuts.
-
lets hope the BLT can get at least a run or two in here

Lance Fucking Berkman, ladies and gentlemen.

Atta boy Berkman!

El puma grande se arde
-

First thing I thought. Miggy didn't seem too happy about it.
I can't believe, the way Berk is swinging the bat, that he'd go for such a bad pitch without reason.
-
Cheito. !
-
hit and run brad!
nicely done.
-
Cheito subidas sobre los hombres que dormitan la lĂnea!
-
Nice work Bradley
Roy looks at strike 3
Men on first and third with one out.
Gunther is up
-
Come on Spaz....
-
Catch it or let it go? hmmmm

I'll take the run.
-
I'll take the run.
Take'm when you can, any way you can.
-
Just a general question:
Roy had only thrown 87 pitches when his spot came up this inning with two on nobody out. Would you have left him in like cooper did, or go to blum or erstad off the bench with the score being tied. I don't think there is a clear cut right answer either way, but just curious to see what most would do?
-
Roy. Fuckin' em up.

He's dealing. Gotta keep him in.

I think Roy just gave you a very specific answer.
-
I'd leave him in for sure. It's a lot of fun watching The Man From Weir and with a run a hair away with no outs, why would you pull your ace?
-
No reason to pull him
-
Shhhhhhhh motherfuckers.

Because you want to give yourself the best chance to get decent separation on the scoreboard with only 3 innings left. Again I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.
-

Oh I didn't doubt he had more in the tank, it was just the situation in the game dictating the question.
-
JESUS H LANCE
-
hell yeah!
i can't believe how well he's hitting!
-
He's in a Jordan zone. Unbelievable.
-
Lance really had to turn it on as he rounded 1B.

Don't we all?
-
Time for Wigginton to drive in a run.
-

better get punching those ballots to get him the starting 1b spot for the NL Allstars

With your shutdown pitcher throwing aspirin and a live lineup behind him, you have plenty of opportunities to get that separation whether Roy makes an out or not, and there's no reason to gamble that you won't get any runs and then have to go out there with a lesser pitcher on the mound. Sometimes you have to go with your strength and not think about it too much.
-
berkman now hitting .393
-
Don't we all?
His hands were moving well.
-
That's gotta hurt. Come on Cheito.
-
Fuck. Yeah.
-
Good job Jr.!
-
Long time to wait for your first RBI as an Astro. Congrats, Cheito.
-
nice to see him come through in the clutch
-
Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuz!
-
My goodness, this is making my night better.
-
Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuz!
CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
berkman now hitting .393
Lance has had an incredible year.
So can you even imagine how hot Rogers Hornsby was from 1921-25 when he batted .397, .401, .384, .424, and .403.
Now that's crazy.
-
wha?
-
Woohoo! Little League baseball!!
-
the bottom just fell out
the cameras didnt even catch it
-
Oh man what an embarrassing meltdown...
-
Alright! That's some baseball.
-
Oh man what an embarrassing meltdown...
What happened?
-
Awesome way to get Roy some breathing room.
-
that was a bad thing to happen on the first night of asian heritage week
-
CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember being a kid going to my first game in the dome with my dad. Jose Cruz comes up to bat and we hear the stadium erupt in boooooooooooooooooooooo. Hadn't been in Houston for a long time, but long enough to know that Jose Cruz was a great player and we couldn't figure it out why in the world the crowd'd be booing him. Next time up to bat, a guy beside us was nice enough to explain they were saying CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Made sense!
-
SF Pitcher threw to 1B on a pickoff, but 1B wasnt on the bag. Bad overthrow. Then an overthrow to the plate. 2 runs scored. Cruz moves to 3B.
-
What happened?
Bases juiced pickoff throw to first went awry, secondbaseman ran out and grabbed it and air mailed it over the C.
-
What happened?
Bases loaded with Ausmus up. Pitcher tries to catch Cruz sleeping on first base for an easy out. He threw it away...way away. 2 runs come in.
-

The pitcher was just standing on the mound, not on the rubber or anything, first baseman was playing in front of the runner... Pitcher just suddenly wings it to the bag at first, about 8 feet wide of the first baseman. Carlos rumbles home, and Wigginton scores on the horrible overthrow from the 2nd baseman as he got to the ball.
Basically, the pitcher picked off the first baseman.
-
JD, re: the Giants' meltdown: "Normally, 3 men on, 1 out is a good time to see if you can catch somebody sleeping... but normally you're not thinking about your own first baseman."
-
The pitcher's throw was ok, but the 1B was nowhere near the bag. Wonder who missed the sign.
-
Uncle Charlie!
-
what a nice curve for the K for roy, hes still rolling

Didn't know it was Bad News Bears promotional night at AT&T Park this evening.
-
I tell you, I watch 150 games a year and have done for longer than I care to think about. I have never seen any shit like that before. You just never know what you might see. Dude was standing damn near off the mound entirely. The first baseman was nowhere near the bag. I mean, what the fuck?
-
Michael Bourn is a very, very good fielder.
-
Damn dude is fast. As an added bonus, bot to avoid the face plant this time as well...
-
Goddamn Roy. Just takin it to their nuts.
-
roy is DEALING
-
great job from roy in that inning
-
Gold Glove in the future for Mr. Bourn?

Yeah, me too.
The '86 season was not a bad one.
-
Gold Glove in the future for Mr. Bourn?
Not until he plays in the shadow of Bristol.
-
The pitcher was on the mound and on the rubber. A play like that usually is called by the catcher by signalling the pitcher to throw. If that was it, the 1B missed the sign.
-
Did someone give Roy a B-12 shot? Man he is just bringing it.
-
Leave him in
-
Not until he plays in the shadow of Bristol.
Until?? STFU
I don't see him being shipped off anytime soon.
-
Berkman's sheepish grin every time he crushes another one cracks me up.
-

The SF Announcers said the pitcher gave the sign with his glove without looking at 1st base.
-
that's gotta be a hit

Point taken. I'm drunk on shitty pinot grigio. I meant "unless."
-
Man, JD's Jon Miller impression was killin me.
-

Don't think that was his point. He was saying he won't get the media support he should because ESPN doesn't care about anything other than the cubs, and northeastern teams.
-
you know how i know greg lucas is gay?

you know how i know greg lucas is gay?
It's because he wears jorts.

I know. Just giving him a little grief.

Well, the problem is GGs are awarded by coaches voting.
-
Man, JD's Jon Miller impression was killin me.
4 games sans JD and Brownie are killing me (Scully was an enjoyable listen, but a junkie's gotta have his fix).
-
you know how i know greg lucas is gay?
This I gotta hear. How?
-
Pins and needles here, BatGirl.
-
How?
he had 'tippy hedren' on the tip of his tongue.
i won't even go there on his thoughts on handbags.
-
Well, the problem is GGs are awarded by coaches voting.
then he has a good shot. If he keeps this up he'll get one at some point in his career.
-
Squat, Molina!
-
I think having Tippy on the tip of your toungue would make you hetero.
-
Squat, Molina!
if molina squats he may not be able to get back up....
-
Geary, time to close.

They could go after Jose to complete the trifecta when the Yankees come to Houston later this summer.

Last name "Ball"?
-
JD said: They're so mad at Yadier, they threw at his brother.
I laffed. :D
-
Last name "Ball"?
wouldn't they need a second mascot named Ricky Ricardo then?
-
ummmmmm, yeah.
bring in papa grande
-
Gee, thanks, JD. "If Bowker reaches, this becomes a save situation."
-
Come on bully... Letting them force Valverde into the game = sucky.
-
Valverde with the, spit right, spit left, spit middle, jump over the first-base line. EYES BULGING!
-
Smart move by Aurilla. Fuck.
-
mthfckr.
-
OK, well, this has become a little more fun than I was hoping for.
-
That was shit luck.

Whew.
Astros win again!
-
Ahhh, that was fun!

That shit was heady baseball. Great win for the good guys though!
-
great win!
hell of a road trip so far!
It's been a heck of a May so far, too.
-
Greatness.
-
This road trip is a very good sign so far for the good guys.
-
Damn... nearly had a cardiac episode, there.
-
Win tonight puts the Astros at .500 on the road.
-
Win tonight puts the Astros at .500 on the road.
Good deal. Nice win.
-
Win tonight puts the Astros at .500 on the road.
This trip could be season defining if they can finish it off strong.
-
In the postgame radio interview, Cheito's description of the two errors in the 8th..."it looked like a snowball fight"...was pretty damned funny.
-
It's been a heck of a May so far, too.
Jane, thank you!
You showed all clarkies the best way to deal with good fortune by the local nine and also not tweak the BBGs all in one fell swoop. This is sheer awesomeness in terms of saying what you had to say in appreciation for the Blood n Mud's performance in May and keeping the humility a fan needs to have about it all. Very "don't say he's pitching a no-no, say "he's doing well" or "He's pitching a heck of a game"!" of you.
Well played ma'am!
