Not sure, but someone did.
Nick Johnson with a Biggio Box special, 1-0 Nats.

That was me. I figured it out.
ETA: I can't believe I was Cabrerra'd on a game thread.

That was one smooth looking dp.

I was about 30 secs. from it myself.
-
At a way TWINKIE!!
-
Milledge certainly had me fooled on that Berkman double. I was halfway through saying "fuck!" when I saw it bounce. Of course, I only caught a glimpse of it off the bat.
-
Man, this is fun.
-
Anybody else having trouble with mlb gameday? Mine still thinks Carlos is batting :-(
-
Christ that's a late strike call.
-
Anybody else having trouble with mlb gameday? Mine still thinks Carlos is batting :-(
yes

perpetual 1-2 count on Lee
-
Anybody else having trouble with mlb gameday? Mine still thinks Carlos is batting :-(
Yes. It is very slow today. I've got Pence batting now.
-
Hey, Hunter's up now! Let's go Spaz!
-
Bacon with a ribeye.
-
This is such a fun lineup.
-
and then a stolen base! His 5th of the year.
-
Bacon with a ribeye.
mmmmmmmm, bacon.
-
another SB for lance... 5/6 on the year
had 7 all of last year
-
Shit. Lettuce with a possible injury on first. Looks okay. Come on pickle.
-
Amazing the impact that a solid #2 hitter makes, rally builder. Unbelievable how good they can be if they can get Bourn going.
-
Spaz looked safe to me... crap.
-
"It's the old 'Oh I've got a bad knee' double steal trick play."
Classic stuff.

JD is the best.

Matsui = Mayo? Remember you have to put the Mayo on first.
-

Yeah, Bourn's slumping pretty badly with the bat.
-
How did the Astros score their first run? How did Washington score?
-
Matsui = Mayo? Remember you have to put the Mayo on first.
And Bourn would be the bun I suppose.
-

white bread...er...um...(shrug)?
-
Wow, that's a wicked mustache on Nick Johnson. Who has mustache's like that anymore? Weird.
-

Berkman/Lee back-to-back doubles to left center. Nick Johnson hit a Biggio box special.
-
Wow, that's a wicked mustache on Nick Johnson. Who has mustache's like that anymore? Weird.
JD: He looks like he could be in a barbershop quartet with that moustache.
Brown: Yes. He's certainly trendy.
-
white bread...er...um...(shrug)?
Pumpernickel. That's a funny word.
-
Berkman/Lee back-to-back doubles to left center. Nick Johnson hit a Biggio box special.
Gracias. I just got home from work in time for the 'Stros second run.
Fucking hell. I had tickets to tonights and thursday's game, but thought I had to be in New York all week and gave them away. Turns out, I'm only going tomorrow night and returning Thursday afternoon - in time to catch that game as well.
-
Did Brown just say that "the place horse might run in the Peter Pan stakes rather than the Preakness"?
He doesn't know that horse is dead?
-

He was talking about Lo Duca's horse. But no to the other question.
-
Spazzy with the off-camera assist on the Aflac trivia question.
-
He was talking about Lo Duca's horse. But no to the other question.
He's certainly an idiot to be hesitant to bet on the horse that shares his name. That was one of the most impressive races I've seen any horse run.
-
Man, Bourn it that well on the line out. Nice to see at least.
-

I dont think he's an idiot, he just pays absolutely no attention.
-
I dont think he's an idiot, he just pays absolutely no attention.
Yes yes. Idiot is obviously too strong a word. I love the guy. His reactions to JD's witticisms usually have me laughing harder than JD's original comment.
-

Didn't see the race but heard something about them having to euthanize a horse live on nbc? Sounds fucking horrible.
-

It's like he hasnt seen a movie, TV show, or heard a song in the past 20 years.
-
Man, Bourn it that well on the line out. Nice to see at least.
You'd think that one of these times one of those ground balls would find a hole by accident. His approach and swing would seem to merit better results than he's getting.
-
20 games coming up without a day off. Lucky break for Andy.
-
The pitch hits Lopez right on the foot, but he swings and strikes out. Yikes.
-
Man, what a way to go down: called third strike on a checked swing and the pitch hits you right on the lead foot.
-
Fuck a duck. 2-2 on the double to left.
-
And 3-2 on another double to LCF.
-
fantastic throw from spaz
-
Spaz! I didn't think he had that in him.
-
and both with 2 outs.
Great throw to get the out at home.
-
fantastic throw from spaz
Off line, but thank gawd Zimmerman is a turtle.
-
Didn't see the race but heard something about them having to euthanize a horse live on nbc? Sounds fucking horrible.
It's true (it was the filly that finished second). NBC had the very good sense not to show footage of the horse writhing in pain and being put down. When asked about the decision not to linger photographically on the unfortunate event, the producer commendably replied "well, I knew my wife and kids were watching."
-
Spaz! I didn't think he had that in him.
He's throwing overhand now.
-
He's throwing overhand now.
Now if only he could learn to slide as well.
-
Didn't see the race but heard something about them having to euthanize a horse live on nbc? Sounds fucking horrible.
To put it in perspective - my wife and her family are from Kentucky. She's spent her entire life around horses. She's been angling for years for us to go to the Derby. And she announced that, unless they make changes, that was the last horse race she's ever watching. It was just a last straw. The breeders have gone too far in pursuit of speed.
-
Don't look now, but Puma just passed Miggy in BA.
-
Man, Runge is an adventure tonight.
-
these late calls from the ump are driving me crazy
-
Love it. Pence with the bloop to tie it.
-

Explain that to me. To much breeding for speed resulting in lighter boned horses that can't withstand the pressure of their power when going all out?
-
More like a freak accident that's happens once in 75 years. Way to keep perspective.
-

Maybe so, but the producer didn't have enough good sense to know that it probably wasn't a great idea to cut to the drunken celebration going on in the Big Brown entourage just about ten seconds after the track vet broke the grim news. Very awkward moment at the least.
-

As best I understand it. There's also the factor that they're racing at 3 years old, which as I understand it, translates physically to about a 15 or 16 year old human.
-
More like a freak accident that's happens once in 75 years. Way to keep perspective.
Or twice in three years?
Isn't there some anecdotal evidence that fillies tend to break down racing colts? I can't remember the name of the filly that had that big match race against Affirmed in the late seventies (R--- something?), but the same thing happened to her.
-

Well, three year olds have been running this race for 134 years now.
-

I'm no horse racing expert, but that's bullshit.

Ruffian.

Yes, it is bullshit.
-
Ruffian.
That's it. Thanks, it's been bothering the back of my mind since Saturday.
-
Well, three year olds have been running this race for 134 years now.
Yes, but the point is that they're racing before the bones are fully developed, which amplifies the breeding issues.
-
In non-horse news, Chacon with the 1-2-3 inning. Mid 6, 3-3.
-
Yes, but the point is that they're racing before the bones are fully developed, which amplifies the breeding issues.
I see. That's interesting. But I think the race has to be the same aged horses it's always been. If changes need to be made, they should be made elsewhere.
-
That's it. Thanks, it's been bothering the back of my mind since Saturday.
My introduction to Ruffian just a couple of months ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGFswkcfqaA

Cruising towards his franchise record for NDs.
Another good outing for Shawn. Well done.
-
Just saw this article:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/sullivan/20080506-9999-1s6sullivan.html
An expert basically says that when speed is the only goal, stamina and accidents like the one that happened at the Derby become a lot more likely.
There's also the accusation of drugs being used on the horse.
-
My introduction to Ruffian just a couple of months ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGFswkcfqaA
Before I click on it, please tell me its not video of the horse dying.
-
When was the last horse to get a serious injury in the derby?
-
Before I click on it, please tell me its not video of the horse dying.
It is Ruffian's story... but no video of the death.
-
When was the last horse to get a serious injury in the derby?
Think Preakness. Same horses.
-
Preakness is a lot rougher because they're racing two weeks apart. No horse has been seriously injured in the derby in something like 75 years. I'm not saying that there's nothing wrong with horse racing but to draw MM's wife's conclusion from eight belles is just a lack of perspective, imo.
-
When was the last horse to get a serious injury in the derby?
Bench is right, but the specific answer to your question is Flip Sal in 1974. However, I don't believe he had to be euthanized on the track.
-

Sample size. The race happens once a year. Apparently the training trend is a real thing.

Just looking at the Derby is the lack of perspective. Breakdowns have been climbing in thoroughbreds.

It happens about four times a year lately in Fredericksburg, which only hosts races a few times a year.
-
Kaz hits it RIGHT AT the SS and still beats out the DP.
-
Back to baseball: speed is a great thing. Kaz beats out the routine 6-4-3 to keep the inning alive for Tejada.
-
I'm really loving the speed at the top of the lineup. Great to see that be part of our game again.
-
I think Bourn gets an assist on that: he hauled ass down to second and made things tough for the second baseman.
-
How many LOBsters for the good guys now?
-
Miggy goes opposite way deep in the count but lines out to the second baseman. He seems to always put good swings on the ball in those situations.
-
"Aaron Fucking Boone"
-
Aaron fucking Boone.
Lobsters really coming back to bite.
-

plenty of at bats to come for the good guys.

plenty of at bats to come for the good guys.
Yep. Chacon's no decision streak is not yet in doubt.
-
Gavin Floyd of the White Sox has a no-hitter after 8 right now.
-
For those of you with EI or MLB.tv, turn on the CWS-MIN game. Surprising drama for a 6-1 game...
-
Gavin Floyd of the White Sox has a no-hitter after 8 right now.
Thanks for the heads up. Gives me something to flip to.
-
For those of you with EI or MLB.tv, turn on the CWS-MIN game. Surprising drama for a 6-1 game...
They showed a close up of his eyes and he was staring at the scoreboard.
-
Floyd Line...8 IP, 3 BB, 3 K
Clearly getting a lot of help from his Defense
-
hopefully they will break into the game on baseball tonight
-
The Mets really thought they could hold people up for Lastings Milledge?
-
ESPN will be doing a live look-in for the 9th for those of you without EI.
-
The Mets really thought they could hold people up for Lastings Milledge?
I'm glad the Stros didn't trade Roy for him....
-
I'm glad the Stros didn't trade Roy for him....
Hell, Roy by himself wouldn't have been enough, if you believed the NY hype.
-
I'm glad the Stros didn't trade Roy for him....
You have no idea what you're talking about. He has the highest greatest prospect to silly name ratio ever. And you wouldn't give up just another starting pitcher for him.
ETA: His defensive instincts would have been worth it alone.
-
bacon is 4-4
-
That is one hell of an outfield.
-
The Mets really thought they could hold people up for Lastings Milledge?
He is having a rough night.
BWhahahahahaha
-
Picture-in-picture ain't DVR in terms of video inventions, but now's a good time for it.
-
bacon steals his 2nd base of the night, are you kidding?
-
Puma!
-
Good thing you made it, Lance.
-
Lance is just outta control right now.
-
WOWsers. Berkman steals third. Puma power. 1 out.
-
Picture-in-picture ain't DVR in terms of video inventions, but now's a good time for it.
Are they back or is the longest last inning for any pitcher to wait through still going on?
Berkman whhaaaaa?
-
Floyd Line...8 IP, 3 BB, 3 K
Clearly getting a lot of help from his Defense
Turns out some of that help is in the form of 2 errors (to which the run is credited)
-
Almost back. They have a free live look-in at mlb.com
That was indeed a long top of the 9th for Gavin Floyd.
-
Just about time to peek into the south side of Chicago.
-
Interesting the Twinkies started 4 lefties against Floyd, then I checked his BAA righties... wow. .149
-
BALK!!
tie game
-
A balk on the whirling dervish!!
What a night.
-
Filthy stuff in Chitown.
ND streak still intact in Houston! Now break it!
-
Well, there's one of the 9 ways (or whatever) to get a guy in from 3rd.
-
Floyde Update
1 out - extra base hit
-
You may now return to the thrilling Stros game.
-
ahahaha
figures. i switched over to that game just as the ball was coming out of Floyd's hand.
-
Well, there's one of the 9 ways (or whatever) to get a guy in from 3rd.
The full term is "9 ways to get a guy in from 3rd with two outs."
-
Well, there's one of the 9 ways (or whatever) to get a guy in from 3rd.
There are 11, without a hit. I remember b/c I got this as our "60 second round" question in the old Texaco Star Challenge... of course, they said there were 10.
-
another ND for chacon
-
Did Erstad just pull something?
ND streak officailly continues.
-
Man, Towles may never see a better pitch to crush.
-
Did Erstad just pull something?
I don't know. That was freaky.
-
The center fielder absolutely got horizontal on the dive for the first hit in the White Sox game.
Damn. No decision again for Chacon.
Seems like they play the Win, Loss, ND up too much for starters. He pitched well, put the Astros in a position to win, that's what matters. Is Chacon or other starters really upset that his stats weren't padded? W-L record is widely known as the most luck driven stat anyway.
-
The Biggio boxes taking a beating tonight.
-
In other news, the "Chin" gets a homer of the big "Unit" to give his team the lead
-
The Biggio boxes taking a beating tonight.
They'll still be there in the bottom of the inning.
-
Man this is frustrating.
-
Well, shit. At least Puma will get another AB.
-
Belly-lard is a real gamer.
-
My guess is that Brocail wasn't screaming into his glove about that last strikeout...
-
Belly-lard...
Outstanding!
-
My guess is that Brocail wasn't screaming into his glove about that last strikeout...
That's ok. I wasn't screaming at his glove earlier, either.
-
Good try, Bourn.
-
It's going to be annoying if Puma leads off another inning.
-
Cassel went 6 innings tonight in Round Rock. No earned runs. 4Ks, 3 BBs, 6 hits.
-
Good try, Bourn.
Correct me if I'm wrong... but... his approach seems to be decent and is putting some good wood on 'em, but just can't seem to get 'em to drop (YET).
-
It's going to be annoying if Puma leads off another inning.
Well there you go. Let's hope Carlos doesn't have to lead off an inning either.
-
are there any lefties in the nats bullpen?
-
are there any lefties in the nats bullpen?
No lefties and no rightfielders, evidently.
-
That outfield shift for Berkman is insane. I've never seen a RF that far off the line.
-
Man, Lance is swinging the bat these days. First ever 5 hit game.
C'MON CARLOS!
-
Berkman 5-5 tonight and 9-10 the last two. Wow.
-
That man can hit a baseball.
-
The anti-Golden Sombrero.
-
No lefties and no rightfielders, evidently.
boy, is that true
-
THERE IT IS BABY! Gorgeous.
-
I want to have the Nationals outfield's babies.
-
wow!
-
what a game.
-
Sweet 0-2 hit!
-
This team is fun to watch regardless of their record.
-
Go ahead and put em out of their misery, Hunter.
-
Awesomeness right there.
-
"theres a nice trophy"
"are you talking about his hair or the ball?"
did anyone catch that gem from JD..man that was funny
-
Berkman and Lee combined: 8-9 4 runs, 4 rbi.
holy shit.
-
I want to have the Nationals outfield's babies.
didn't know you rolled like that....
-
Noe catches a foul
-
The Washington outfield is not good, but that was a tough decision for Kearns.
-
didn't know you rolled like that....
I love those guys.
-
Friggin' FANTASTIC!!!
-
I just realized I rolled up 1700 posts and have never said anything worthwhile. What a waste of talent I am.
-
The Washington outfield is not good, but that was a tough decision for Kearns.
One I bet he wishes he could make again.
-
I want to have the Nationals outfield's babies.
They will grow up to be gangsta's with big ears and iron gloves.
-
Nice. one pitch one out
-
Have any of you ever saw a 3 pitch 3 out inning?
-
They will grow up to be gangsta's with big ears and iron gloves.
Are you saying Lastings Milledge is their daddy?
-
I love those guys.
Nothing like the manager mind fucking a few runs out for the opposition.
-
I just realized I rolled up 1700 posts and have never said anything worthwhile. What a waste of talent I am.
You ain't the only one. (Look left)
-
They will grow up to be gangsta's with big ears and iron gloves.
But they'll be able to find information on the Intertubes, by God.
-
Miggy wagging that pointer finger at Valverde. If I were Valverde I would listen.
-
Have any of you ever saw a 3 pitch 3 out inning?
Yes. Yes I have. Fucking sweet game.
-
When did we get Todd Helton?
-
Over .500 baby! SWEET WIN TONIGHT!!!
-
So the 8th was a BLT on toasted bread, hold the mayo, no pickles?
-
They will grow up to be gangsta's with big ears and iron gloves.
That whole team is a bunch of mooks.
-
What a great game.
-
1
2
3
For Valverde. Nice! That's the pitcher that they traded for.
-
Fuck. Yes.
-
Radiohead live and an Astros win. Good night.
-
What a great game.
yes indeed. this team is fun to watch.
-
So the 8th was a BLT on toasted bread, hold the mayo, no pickles?
Nice... Had that one in your back pocket for a while, eh?
-
Nice... Had that one in your back pocket for a while, eh?
I can't imagine eating a BLT with pickles. Yuck.
-
Nice... Had that one in your back pocket for a while, eh?
Not really, it just came to me. I'm not even staying in a Holiday Inn Express. I did just drink a pint of Monty Python's Holy Grail ALE, so maybe it imparted a modicum of wit.
-
Chacon was hired to take the ball every fifth game and give his team a chance to win. He's done that admirably so far. Does anybody know off hand the team's record in his starts?
-

3-4 after tonight. losses in his starts at SD, Zona, Phi and home vs STL. Wins vs WAS, COL at home, STL on the road.
-
Brocail gets the win. What a sham.
-
Brocail gets the win. What a sham.
The Astros get the win. Fine by me.

4/3 @SD 6 IP, 2 ER, L 2-3
4/8 STL 6 IP, 3 ER, L 3-5
4/15 @PHI 8 IP, 0 ER, L 3-4
4/20 COL 6 IP, 3 ER, W 6-4
4/25 @STL 7 IP, 1 ER, W 3-2
4/30 @ARI 5 IP, 5 ER, L 7-8
5/6 WAS 7 IP, 4 ER, W 6-5
Surprising, I really thought it was better than 3-4. Its getting easier to forget the suckage that was most of April
-
Chacon gives good interviews. Answers the questions, sounds intelligent (no string of cliche's). I really like him.
-
The Astros get the win. Fine by me.
I agree.
I just don't like the fact that you can blow a hold or blow a save and then get the win. One of my pet peeves.
-
I really like him.
Me too. He is looking like a much better pick up than I ever thought he would/could be the day he was signed.
-
There are 11, without a hit. I remember b/c I got this as our "60 second round" question in the old Texaco Star Challenge... of course, they said there were 10.
Wait. I thought Zipper had this question? Did you both have it on Texaco Star Challenge?
I know I watched one of you answer the question on the show. In fact, I think it was against South Houston (my sister's school).
-
Chacon gives good interviews. Answers the questions, sounds intelligent (no string of cliche's). I really like him.
Didn't see the Chacon interview (one of the few, but acceptable drawbacks of EI), but have been very impressed with interviews I've seen with Wesley Wright.

The main thing is that each of those games was right there to win. Its just bad luck that he doesn't have one on his pitching line yet.
-
I agree.
I just don't like the fact that you can blow a hold or blow a save and then get the win. One of my pet peeves.
I don't think you can blow anything in a tie game.
Another sweet win by the good guys!
-
I don't think you can blow anything in a tie game.
Well, you just don't know Jane very well.
-
Well, you just don't know Jane very well.
Nobody should be this witty at 3:30 in the morning.
-
Well, you just don't know Jane very well.
*rim shot*
Hey--4 game win streak since the double contribution to the BBGs. Don't mock it.
-
Brocail gets the win. What a sham.
come on, Jane. that is a ridiculous thing to say. first of all, that is the rule. more important, he made ONE bad pitch. he had been unscored on in many consecutive outings. if you demand perfection, you are a fan of the wrong damn game.
-
I don't think you can blow anything in a tie game.
Another sweet win by the good guys!
I know. Sorry, was at the gym and listening to the game on the radio. (They won't put the Astros game on one of the 6 TVs, fuckers) Lost track of when he gave up the HR. Thought the Astros were up by one.
-

Keep 'em comin'. (the wins)

So, I don't like the rule. Call me ridiculous, tell me to fuck off, still don't like it. Just my opinion.
Wasn't a knock on the pitcher, just on the scoring rule.
-
Wait. I thought Zipper had this question? Did you both have it on Texaco Star Challenge?
I know I watched one of you answer the question on the show. In fact, I think it was against South Houston (my sister's school).
I know I answered it. I don't remember who we were facing, but being able to write out my 10 answers and givve them to the captain before time started was a very satisfying feeling.

ok. that three strikes and you're out one is unfair, too.

Plus the infield fly rule is just dumb.

and what's a cutoff man for, anyway?

Oh, come on. I never used the words fair or unfair. I just gave my opinion on the rule. I am entitled to have an opinion, whether you or any other person on the planet agrees or not.

Not at all.

But you were picking at her for what you perceived was her picking on Brocail, which she explained she wasn't. Now you're still picking on her for disliking a rule about relievers being able to buzzard a win... which has been expressed by many baseball men as being somewhat dubious but them's the breaks.
I see her point and think you're the one overreacting at this point. But then again, that's just my opinion.

yes, it is.
no one is overreacting. after my first post on the "it is a sham" comment, i started teasing her. Andy did a little teasing too. she was irritated, perhaps at both of us. she told me/us where to stick it in her usual direct way.
Jane does not need a protector from being "picked on." Jane is a big girl who can take care of herself quite well, and she and i are good friends. perhaps you're just feeling extra-chivalrous today. i'm sure she appreciates your protection.

I'm not protecting her, I'm stating my opinion because you guys are making it a public issue (you ain't the posting police, are you?) and you seem to be the one that has a thin skin this morning. my, my, having a bad morning? If she tells you to stop (in so many ways) why do you think it's a good idea to continue to pick on tease her?

I told you to stick it somewhere? Musta missed it.

righto. she and i have exchanged PM and are somewhat amused by this.
chivalry definitely is not dead.

That's all well and good, but if this is public, I can definitely say that I understood Jane's point and felt you overreacted. My opinion, definitely mine and no one else. You don't need to defend yourself to me, I'm not that important to waste time nor PMs about.
