Just saw that Houston has fewest number of errors in the majors.
Home sweet home for Wandy today, hopefully.
Is there a story/scouting report on this guy Badenhop? It's his first start in the majors.
-
Mr. Wade says:
Towles and Wandy are buddies, gives him a lot of credit for Wandy's last start.
Matsui will work out at MMP tomorrow, start another rehab on Tuesday, and might play for the team Friday against the Rockies.
Tejada is awesome. Berkman is awesome, switch hitter thriving in this lineup.
Pence is going through a tough time. No such thing as sophomore slump, Pence will make some adjustments. Bourn too.
Bench love. "Very happy with the composition of the bench."
"We don't have parades for me in Philly anymore."
-

A Bowling Green guy. A "strike thrower." LINK (http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080412&content_id=2519606&vkey=news_fla&fext=.jsp&c_id=fla)
Radio just said he's a sinker baller, groundball guy.

Guess there was something to Berkman's "Kissimmee yips" comments after all...
Home sweet home and April sweet April for Wandy - can't wait!
Badehop's first start in the Majors. They did put him in for an inning or so recently just to introduce him to the show. I'm banking that the new lineup this year won't make every rookie on his first start look like Cy friggin' Young like they have in the past.
-
Where are they playing? I don't recognize the daytime backdrop behind home plate.
-
FLA gets 0 runs on 1 hit:
Ramirez grounder makes it through to right.
Uggla flies out to center.
Hermida swinging K.
Willingham grounds out, 4-3.
-
Looks like a damn nice day at the ballpark, wish I was there.
Ouch. Loretta takes one on the elbow.
-
Where are they playing? I don't recognize the daytime backdrop behind home plate.
Um, at MMP?
And yeah, it's LOVELY here. Too bad DH didn't want to go, and I have a presentation to put together today :/
-
HOU gets 0 runs on 0 hits, leave a baserunner on first.
Badenhop baffles Bourn, K looking on 3rd pitch.
Loretta HBP.
Berkman flies out to right.
Lee flies to center.
-
Milo just called Wes Helms a bridesmaid?
-
Where are they playing? I don't recognize the daytime backdrop behind home plate.
Was that the same 'white backdrop' that the coards pitcher was whining about the other day?
-
FLA gets 0 runs on 1 hit, leave runners at first and second:
Cantu fouls out to Berkman.
Ross breaks a bat, infield is terrified, Milo is undescriptive, Bourn eventually picks up the ball, Ross chills out at first.
The bridesmaid K swinging on third pitch.
Ross steals second on a curve.
Treanor BB on a full count.
Badenhop comebacker to Wandy, 1-3.
-
Milo just called Wes Helms a bridesmaid?
JD said he (I think) and Nomar were both part of the 'my wife is a better athlete than I am club.' Nomar's wife is Mia Hamm, don't know who Helms wife is.
-
Too bad Tejada couldn't be on second for that one.
-
Towles! 2-0, good guys!
-
Go Towles!
-
HOU gets 2 runs on 3 hits.
Tejada hits a hard single through short and third to left.
Blum swings and misses, Tejada CS by a good throw from Treanor.
Blum grounds out to to the right side, 3-1.
Erstad doubles right of center.
Towles slips to 0-2, fouls a couple off, then punishes Badenhop for hanging a slider. Homerun off the facade in Crawford land.
Wandy flies out to left.
-
FLA gets 0 runs on 0 hits.
Ramirez grounds out to short, 6-3.
Uggla flies out to center.
Hermida grounds out to Berkman, 3-1.
Wandy's got 39 pitches through 3.
-
Sweet swing on a 3-1 pitch their for Bourn!
-
Michael Bourn!!!
Not a punch n judy guy indeed.....
-
It would sure help this team out if he gets going. That's only the third run Bourn has scored on the season.
-
HOU scores 1 run on 1 hit.
Bourn goes out of the park (second time as a pro) to right on a 3-1 count.
Loretta K looking on a full count.
Berkman comebacker to the pitcher, 1-3.
Lee grounds out to short, 6-3.
-
If Bourn gets going and Matsui starts off well...I'm really going to be liking the offense and defense. Pence be damned.
-
It would sure help this team out if he gets going. That's only the third run Bourn has scored on the season.
how many steals? he has been on second at least that many times. the entire offense is to blame.
-
Team batting average of .233 going into today's game.
-
Bourn has an arm on him.
-
FLA scores 1 on 2 hits, leaves a runner at first.
Willingham clears the tracks in left on a 3-1 count.
Cantu broken bat single drops before Bourn can get to it.
Ross flies out to deep center.
Helms K swinging at a 2-2 curveball.
Treanor K swinging at an 0-2 curveball (three pitches, three curves).
-
Marlins have been liking the train tracks this series...
Looks like Wandy was a tad 'Wandied' after Willingham's shot, but caught his composure back after the long fly to Bourn for back to back Ks.
-
Wandy having trouble locating the fastball today....but he can drop that curve on a saucer everytime!
-
Wandy having trouble locating the fastball today....but he can drop that curve on a saucer everytime!
If Wandy only threw the curve and Badenhof the slider, this game would be over in about 45 minutes.
-
how many steals? he has been on second at least that many times. the entire offense is to blame.
Let's hope that Matsui provides the spark that is missing.
-
i really like seeing blum back with the team.
-
Let's hope that Matsui provides the spark that is missing.
Matsui will bring bat control and patience so Bourn will actually have time to steal/run the bases
-
Having a little avatar identity disorder prob over there Prav?
-
Matsui will bring bat control and patience so Bourn will actually have time to steal/run the bases
That's the plan anyway. I hope he is ready against the Padres.
-
Having a little avatar identity disorder prob over there Prav?
Que?
-
HOU gets 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 error, leave runners at the corners.
Tejada K, caught looking at 2-2 fastball.
Blum grounds it past Helms to the corner in right, a double.
Erstad grounds to second, safe on Uggla's poor throw. Runners at the corners.
Towles grounds out to short, 6-4-3.
-
FLA goes three up, three down.
Badenhop grounds to Wandy, who takes it to first unassisted.
Ramirez flies out to Erstad.
Uggla K swinging on a 2-2 curve.
-
Que?
It looks good to me. I may need to get out the Firefly set after the game. Time to see "Objects in Space" again I think.

"I was just, uh… 'BWAH!' That's more like a… It's a warrior like… Strikes fear into the… hearts of…"
-
HOU follows the FLA example, three up and three down in the 5th.
Wandy flies out to center.
Bourn grounds out to second, 4-3.
Loretta also grounds out to second, 4-3.
-
"I was just, uh… 'BWAH!' That's more like a… It's a warrior like… Strikes fear into the… hearts of…"
You can watch the series for free on hulu.com. I can't believe there is only 1 season of it, great show!
-
Geoff Blum is a platoon player and should be sharing duty with Wiggington. IMHO of course. His throws to first are a thing of beauty and he just plays a damn nice hot corner.
That is all.
-
Wandy goes three for three again.
Hermida K swinging on a 2-2 curve.
Willingham grounds out to third, 5-3.
Cantu grounds out to third, 5-3.
That's 80 pitches and 6 strikeouts through 6.
-
This Wandy guy ain't bad.
-

12 episodes and a movie. Perfect.

skipping Sampson in Philadephia keeping Roy on the regular schedule.
-
Way to beat it out.

Re: "The Bridesmaid" comment
I think Milo was having a senior moment, according to "Brewers Nut" on a 2004 posting on "Addictsports.com" forum:
The off-season wasn't all bad, though, as Helms and girlfriend Meredith Wilson were married on December 11th at a wedding chapel in North Carolina. The two met at the HealthSouth Medical Center in Birmingham while Helms was rehabbing his shoulder surgery and topped their wedding cake with a baseball that Helms signed and gave to his new wife.
-
Bases loaded, no outs...Badenhop lifted
-
Bases loaded, no outs...Badenhop lifted
good looking pitcher. Nice sinker, slider.
-
This Wandy guy ain't bad.
Yeah this Wandy's pretty good. It's "Road Wandy" that scares me.
-
They said that he was the deciding piece in the Miguel Cabrera trade. The player that tipped the trade to go through.
Shit. Fucking infield popup.
-
Yeah this Wandy's pretty good. It's "Road Wandy" that scares me.
Wandy didn't do too bad in Chicago, did he?
-
Bah...
-
wasted opportunity.
-
Wandy didn't do too bad in Chicago, did he?
Yeah but "Last Year's Road Wandy" would have been excessive.
-
Cruz just struckout on a grand slam pitch.
-
Cruz just struckout on a grand slam pitch.
uh, no.
-
Towles leaned into that one, Biggio-style. Replay shows it nipped him. Got the walk, though. Itzah nice.
-
I'm glad we got SOMETHING out of this. Good patience Towles.
-
Good eye JR.
-
wasted opportunity.
Not yet, they still have to get three outs.
-
Good for him, especially after not getting the call he wanted.
Did the umps miss the call? Radio says yes.
-
Good for him, especially after not getting the call he wanted.
Did the umps miss the call? Radio says yes.
Radio doesn't mean squat. The ump ruled he didn't make an attempt to get out of the way of the pitch.
-
Well, 1's better than none. Learned that in math class.
-
HOU gets 1 run from 2 hits and 2 walks, leave the bases loaded.
Berkman BB on five pitches.
Lee blows it by Badenhop and past a diving Uggla, runners at first and second.
Tejada grounds it softly to third, Helms can't reel the throw in, basepaths full.
Tankersley replaces Badenhop on the mound. Milo makes tank/Marlins jokes, says hi to college students.
Batting from the other side, Blum pops one up high to short.
Cheito comes in for the lefty Erstad, first pitch pop up to first.
The righty Gardner replaces Tankersley.
Towles works a a bases loaded, full count, RBI BB.
Wandy grounds to the pitcher, 1-3.
-
Radio doesn't mean squat. The ump ruled he didn't make an attempt to get out of the way of the pitch.
Did a biggio roll with the lead flipper out.
-
Radio doesn't mean squat. The ump ruled he didn't make an attempt to get out of the way of the pitch.
Which is what I was asking. Makes sense. Thanks.
-
Beautiful setup and execution for that strike 3.
-
Sweet K by Wandy. 7 strikeouts today, his career high.
-
Beautiful setup and execution for that strike 3.
Good sequence by Towles.
-
FLA gets zilch from 1 hit, leaves the runner on first.
Ross singles to center.
Helms flies out to Cruz in front of the track in right center.
Treanor pops out to Loretta.
Andino comes in for the pitcher Gardner, watches a couple strikes, then misses a high fastball, K swinging.
-
93 pitches by Wandy through 7 innings. 61 of those were strikes.
-
Atta Bourn. Some insurance would be nice...
-
A treat to watch a good #2 hole hitter work. Nice job Loretta.
-
Atta Bourn. Some insurance would be nice...
yep, a three-run lead isn't safe with the power the Marlins have shown in this series.
-
aaaaaand Berkman responds with a big double.
-
Puma! Gotta bust this one open.
-
Atta Bourn. Some insurance would be nice...
yeah butt, he shoulda went on the 1-1 or the 2-2 count.
-
Berkman's 2008 season is off to a fine start.
-
That AB by Lee was positively Pence-like.
-
Wow. Nice snag by Helms. Tough break.
-
That AB by Lee was positively Pence-like.
no, it was not. great pitch for strike 2.
hanging curve on the inside corner for strike 3. Lee was right on it and tried to hit it to the moon. he missed it is all.
-
That AB by Lee was positively Pence-like.
He wanted the heater, he got the offspeed three times. I'm sure the Fins pitching coach had something to do with that.
-
yeah butt, he shoulda went on the 1-1 or the 2-2 count.
Not sure about that. Lindstrom throws gas and the catcher has a good arm. Thought it was a good no-go...
-
too much gas for Cheito.
-
Well, the good news is that the Astros are getting plenty of guys on base.
-
HOU gets 1 on 3 hits and an IBB, leave three runners on.
Lindstrom comes in to pitch.
Bourn goes right back up the middle with Lindstrom's high speed fastball.
Loretta lines his 7th pitch safely to right, Bourn holds up at second.
Berkman hammers an RBI double to the bullpen in left center on the first pitch he sees, runners at second and third.
Lee K swinging.
Tejada draws the IBB, bases now saturated.
Blum lines out sharply to first, but a leaping bridesmaid grabs it.
Cheito fouls out on a pop to the catcher.
-
no, it was not. great pitch for strike 2.
hanging curve on the inside corner for strike 3. Lee was right on it and tried to hit it to the moon. he missed it is all.
So...he swung at a first pitch curve ball out of the zone, then with two strikes wound up and tried to hit an outside curve into orbit and missed rather than choking up a bit and trying to put the ball in play.
Yeah I can see how that's different from spaz.
-

Yeah I can see how that's different from spaz.
strike 3 was a hanging INSIDE curve that he was right on.
Pence swings at balls that bounce in front of the plate.
-
beautiful K by Brocail.
-
beautiful K by Brocail.
Fastball at the knees and Willingham is arguing?
-
FLA draws nothing from one hit.
Brocail takes over for Wandy.
Ramirez flies out to right.
Uggla hits it right back to Brocail, 1-3.
Hermida drops one between Tejada, Lee, and Bourn, runner on first.
Willingham watches Brocail throw three strikes, K looking.
-
Brocail throws low strikes, me like.
-
Fastball at the knees and Willingham is arguing?
Yeah, what was his gripe?
-
Oh crap. Visions of Bagwell years ago.
-
OUCH!!
And he is taken out of the game. Crap. Hope its just precautionary.
-
oh shit.
-
Not a lot of question about that HBP. Let's hope JR didn't get Bagwell'd.
-
Not a lot of question about that HBP. Let's hope JR didn't get Bagwell'd.
did he come out of the game?
-
Fucking hell, is this team jinxed or what.
-
No bueno for Towles. Hopefully it's just precautionary.
-
Boy, that ball really ricocheted off of his hand. That's a little worrisome.
-
Not a lot of question about that HBP. Let's hope JR didn't get Bagwell'd.
Watching the close up of Rex Jones poking at Towles' hand and then taking him out, doesnt look good.
-
Good thing Q's still with the organization.
-
Watching the close up of Rex Jones poking at Towles' hand and then taking him out, doesnt look good.
No, it doesn't. I hope the kid has strong bones.
-
did he come out of the game?
Yeah Towles is out, Brad is in. And gets nailed on the busted hit and run.
-
did he come out of the game?
Yep, and Ausmus is in. JR taken for xrays. He was nailed on the hand while he gripped the bat.
-
Fucking hell, is this team city jinxed or what.
yes
-
Did I hear earlier that the probable pitchers for the Phillie series had changed? Sampson skipped? So Oswalt and Backe for the second and third games? Not on Astros.com yet.
-
HOU gets no runs from one hit batsman.
They decide Gregg ought to pitch this inning.
Towles takes a scary HBP and leaves the game for Ausmus pinch running.
Perez pinch hits for Brocail.
Ausmus gets caught stealing, 2-6-3.
Perez grounds out to first.
Bourn grounds to second, 4-3.
-
Did I hear earlier that the probable pitchers for the Phillie series had changed? Sampson skipped? So Oswalt and Backe for the second and third games? Not on Astros.com yet.
That's what they're saying. Sampson out, O and Backe bumped up to stay on schedule (I think, I don't know the schedule real well).
-
Did I hear earlier that the probable pitchers for the Phillie series had changed? Sampson skipped? So Oswalt and Backe for the second and third games? Not on Astros.com yet.
Yeah, Sampson being skipped and Oswalt going in the second game is what I heard.

he seems to be quite and adventure each time out.
has not settled in yet. i'm sure a lot of the new guys are trying too hard to be great.
-
Rack up a W. Nice win.
-
Is it overreacting a bit to let out a hearty "whew" and breathe a sigh of relief at the end of that one?

no

Yep.

First series win. Wandy gets a W finally.
-
And there's your answer: Nep.

*looks up*
Now I'm confused.
-
FLA can't get anything out of an XBH and a BB, leave runners at first and second.
Coop decides Valverde is a better option to pitch the 9th than Perez.
Cantu K swinging, Ausmus hangs on to the tip.
Ross launches a long double off the wall in left center, runner now sitting at second.
Gonzalez pinch hits for Helms and ends up with a BB, runners at first and second.
Rabelo pinch hits for Treanor and K swinging on 3-2 count after Dewey explains to Valverde the value of strikes.
Amezaga flies out to Lee in left center.
Game over, Stros get their 5th win of the season.
WP - Rodriguez (1-0)
LP - Badenhop (0-1)

Now I'm confused.
Well, don't ask an opinion question if you are not prepared for differing answers.

Daurte's on the ball again. Looks like it is bruised, not broken. LINK (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/5697271.html)
Astros rookie catcher J.R. Towles suffered a bruised left hand after being hit by a pitch in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Florida Marlins.
Towles was hit on the top of the hand by Florida reliever Kevin Gregg in the eighth inning. He left the game and was replaced by Brad Ausmus.
X-rays were negative and Towles will be re-evaluated Monday.
"Right now it's just a little sore, Towles said.
