Interesting pairing of Brandon and Brad. I assumed Brad would catch Wandy. Shows what I know.

Would have thought the same thing, especially since it would have given Towles back-to-back days off. Will be real suprised though if we don't see Brad paired with Roy on his next start.
-
Miller is a lefty, so is this Coop's right handed batting order? Cool... except for the Pence at leadoff start. It should be interesting to say the least.

A pairing of Playoff Backe/battery at home? Just reaching for anything here, but juneberno! Backe trying to be a stopper plus his incident with Poohole a couple of days back may have him pumped up too much. Ausmus is a good calming influence, IMHO.
-
Wow! I thought there was no way Cheito catches that drive... nice!
-
Wow! I thought there was no way Cheito catches that drive... nice!
Me either, especially after that first step in.
-
Four hard hit balls, no damage done.
-
Top 1:
Ramirez: s. shot almost to Tal's hill, nice over the shoulder catch by Cheito. 1 out.
Uggla: line drive shot to the track to left center to Cruuuuuuuz for out 2.
Hermida: cs, s, b, b, shot almost taking Backe's head off into center field. Runner on 1B, 2 outs.
Willingham: b, s, liner into right. 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Jacobs: b, b, fly out to Lee in shallow left. 3 outs.
A lot of hard hit balls by the fish, but no damage in the Top of the 1st.

Game is on dishnetwork 445 if anyone is looking for it.
-
Hanley is a stud.
-
Wow, Pence strikes out flailing at a breaking pitch? Whodathunkit!
-
Wow, Pence strikes out flailing at a breaking pitch? Whodathunkit!
He just looks so lost.
-
Wow, Pence strikes out flailing at a breaking pitch? Whodathunkit!
Jacksonian's preview noted that Miller had been relying heavily on the FB. Maybe that factored into Coop's thinking. Maybe Miller read his scouting reports too though.
-
Wow, Pence strikes out flailing at a breaking pitch? Whodathunkit!
I was hoping he could at least hit a lefty's curve. He is totally lost right now.
-
Great slide by Berkman.
-
Wowzers Lance, way to make that a close one.
-
Andrew Miller looks like every other tall lefty young pitcher I've seen come through the minors in the last ten years. Do they teach them all to throw eggzactly alike? Houston actually had a guy once named Miller who was a tall pitcher just like this one, can't remember his first name... and he threw just like this Miller.
-
Wowzers Lance, way to make that a close one.
Berkman looked like he was running in quicksand.

Is it Miller time?

Trever? Greg?

Bottom 1:
Pence: b, fb, b, fb, cs (Pence went around). 1 out, none on.
Loretta: cs, grounder to SS, 2 outs. Don't want to see Miller get comfortable early. Don't let the double digit ERA fool ya with this kid.
Berkman (hitting from the right side): shot past Ramirez. 2 outs, Twinkie on 1B.
Lee: cs, ss, b, shot between Millers legs into CF. 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Tejada: b, RBI single into CF (looper, just fell - great throw, good slide by Puma to the back of the plate). 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B. FLA 0, HOU 1.
Blum: b, s, cs (checked swing), cs (fb straight down the pipe).
End 1: FLA 0, HOU 1
JD notes that Kaz was not in the lineup again today for the Hooks. Do we have an over/under contest yet for Kaz's starts with the 'Stros?
-
Blum is a decent 3b.
-
I like these uni's. I wish they'd try the normal dark hats with it sometime.
-
I like these uni's. I wish they'd try the normal dark hats with it sometime.
the red hats don't really make any sense.
-
Blum is a decent 3b.
He has very soft hands.
-
Top 2:
Cantu: b, b, s, b, fb (high drive into left), sharply hit ball to 3B, out at 1B. 1 out, none on.
Rabelo: b, ss, fb, b, fb, b (in the dirt), fb, fb (out of play by 3B), b (just outside). 1 out, runner on 1B.
Amezaga: b, b (inside), cs, b (just inside, looked pretty decent), b (good looking pitch on the outside corner - looks like the zone is pretty tight tonight). 1 out, runners on 1B and 2B.
Miller: [Miller looking to bunt] cs (Berkman about even with Backe at the pitch), fb, fb (strikeout as Miller was attempting to bunt). 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Ramirez (0-1 on deep drive to Cheito): b, b, cs, hard grounder to Blum who throws to 2B for the force.
Middle 2: FLA 0, HOU 1
Backe pitch count through 2: 41 (23/18)
-
Cruuuuz!
-
Couple of crafty vets with back to back doubles, sweet.
-
Pence!! Is horrible right now...
-
Man, Pence looks lost up there.
-
WTF was that Pence?
-
*** except for the Pence at leadoff start.***
can't bat in the 7 hole on your bobblehead night...
-
Man, Pence looks lost up there.
Is there an echo in here? At least we all agree.
-
Nice AB.
-
How long do they let him struggle like this before doing something?
-
Alright Puma!! Pound the shit out of these guys.
-
Berkman is really looking good at the plate.
-
Wow, talk about not locating a fastball.
-
How long do they let him struggle like this before doing something?
What are the options?
-
How long do they let him struggle like this before doing something?
Pam might not let them send him back to Round Rock for re-tuning.
-
How long do they let him struggle like this before doing something?
What would you have them do?
-
Berkman is really looking good at the plate.
Could be april PotM if he keeps it up.
-
What are the options?
I have no idea. Got any ideas of what they are?
-
I have no idea. Got any ideas of what they are?
Give him Adderall?
-
Blum is a decent 3b.
I'm starting to agree with you.
-
Computer screwed up, so correct me if I do with my PBP for this half as well
Bottom 2
Cheito doubles to LF corner.
Ausmus doubles to LF corner, Cruuuuus scores.
Backe lays down a nice SF to advance Ausmus to 3B.
Pence strikes out looking completely lost.
Loretta singles in Ausmus.
Berkman HRs into the Crawford boxes.
Lee out.
End 2: FLA 0, HOU 5
-
Backe with 62 pitches through the 3rd.
-
Top 3:
Uggla: hard ground ball to 3B, nice play by Blum again. 1 out, none on.
Hermida: b, b, b, b, (walk). 1 out, runner on 1B.
Willingham: ss, fb, b, b, b (low), [throw over to 1B, almost caught Hermida napping], b (way wide). 1 out, runners on 1B and 2B.
Jacobs: b, b, high pop to Cheito in shallow CF. 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Cantu: b, ss, high chopper to Blum who throws to 1B for the out (another legit play by Blum).
Middle 3: FLA 0, HOU 5
A lot of balls tonight by Backe, but I certainly wouldn't call him wild. Decent pitches, just a tight strike zone and Marlins aren't biting on the close ones.
Backe pitch count through 3: 62 (32/30)
-
Backe with 62 pitches through the 3rd.
This is my last 1/2 inning of PBP. Can you pick it up from here?
-
This is my last 1/2 inning of PBP. Can you pick it up from here?
No, sorry I can't. In and out here.
-
This is my last 1/2 inning of PBP. Can you pick it up from here?
Who's steppin' up?
-
Bottom 3: Miller pitching.
Tejada: walks on 3-1 pitch. None out, Tejada on 1B.
Blum: strikes out on 1-2(?) pitch (appeal said he went around). 1 out, Tejada on 1B.
Cheito: b, s, b [Tejada steals 2B], b, grounds out to 22. 2 outs, Tejada on 2B.
Ausmus: ss, b, ss, b, fb, cs. 3 outs.
End 3: FLA 0, HOU 5.
Next?
-
Who's steppin' up?
I can do the middle three.
-
Backe back on the bump
Rabelo: foul, foul, curve missed, curve drop in for called strike three.
-
Amezaga: ball, ball, FB called low strike, FB called strike, curve tapped foul, curve hammered to right-ground rule double
-
Andrew Miller looks like every other tall lefty young pitcher I've seen come through the minors in the last ten years. Do they teach them all to throw eggzactly alike? Houston actually had a guy once named Miller who was a tall pitcher just like this one, can't remember his first name... and he threw just like this Miller.
John Halama Miller?
-
Miller stays in: tapper in front on the mound, Backe throws him out, 2 down, Amezaga to third.
-
Handjob: ball, ball, FB hammered to short, Tejada on the grass, throws him out. Hanley wasn't running hard.
-
Guess the doom and gloom about Miggy at SS was a bunch of hooey. I have not been unimpressed at all. Rather surprised.
-
Aflac trivia: Most pinch hit homers all time. Played for the 'Stros at some point, and has played C and 1B.
-
Jesus, the barnyard jokes are going to drive me to drinking.
-
Miller still there
Backe: fouled back, high FB swing and a miss, FB swing and a miss, 1 down.
-
Pence: strike, ball, curve swing and a miss, curve for a ball, curve for a ball, FB high and wide, walked him.
-
Loretta: ball-Pence breaks for second, strong throw, nailed him. Liner to third, side retired.
-
My ESPN just kicked in. I was just about to say--"Hope he doesn't get thrown out trying to steal." And then he does.
-
Hunter isnt listening to anybody. The proof is his slide. Everything they tried to teach him last season, ie how to slide without injuring yourself, out the window.
-
Loretta: ball-Pence breaks for second, strong throw, nailed him. Liner to third, side retired.
OK, that throw from Robelo hurt *my* arm.
-
Backe pitching
Uggla: FB a bit outside, ditto, ditto, FB taken for a strike, inside FB lined over short for a single.
-
That was a helluva DP!
-
Sparkling DP
-
Are you freakin kidding me?! What a double play!
-
Nice play by Tejada. This guy's really growing on me.
-
Hermida: strike, ball, FB low, FB wide, low FB fouled back, high foul, grounder up the middle, Tejada scoops, backflip to Loretta for one, barehanded and toss to first nailed him. 2 down. Sweet DP.
-
Nice play by Tejada. This guy's really growing on me.
Tejada has shown a nice glove. I knew he had a strong arm, but his glove has been damn solid so far. His range isn't what Everett's is, but he's made some really nice plays.
-
ESPN, etc. were right, Tejada's obviously washed up as a SS.....
-
Nice play by Tejada. This guy's really growing on me.
Yeah, I was really prepared not to like the guy, but dadgumit, the total package of fielding, hitting, and being such a gamer has probably changed alot of minds.
-
Winningham: strike low, strike low, ball low, FB fouled, ball low, hanging curve tapped foul, curve wide, FB bounces in front of the plate, walk.
-
Backe is running out of gas...
-
Jacobs: slams a meat pitch off the RF chalk and it bounces into the stands, ground rule double, Winningham to third.
-
Tejada has shown a nice glove. I knew he had a strong arm, but his glove has been damn solid so far. His range isn't what Everett's is, but he's made some really nice plays.
His range isn't nearly as bad as I expected.
-
Backe is running out of gas...
He's on fumes.
-
Whew! Glad Backe got out of that inning. He sure deserves a W after how he's pitched so far this year.
-
Cantu: FB paints the low outside corner, FB misses low and wide, check swing ruled a ball on a curve, FB on the outside corner for strike two, inside meat-huge fly to deep left-just foul (whew), inside FB tapped foul, FB tapped foul, hard shot to third, Blum fires, side retired.
Backe is gassed. Strong outing despite the walks.
-
He's on fumes.
But, he coasted into the station.
-
His range isn't nearly as bad as I expected.
His range is better than I expected. I never thought it was bad.
-
Still Miller time
Berkman: curve missed, curve swing and a miss, hanging curve high/inside, FB high, curve low, walk this way.
-

Dumbass Lance.
-
Blundering on the basepath Berkman shows up again.
-
Cruz Jr.: curve misses, curve drops in for a strike, ball, curve misses, curve misses low/inside, bases juiced.
-
Darnit.
-
The entire Marlins infield is in conference on the mound.
Ausmus: FB punched foul, ball low, curve tapped foul, fouled back, FB just misses inside, hard shot to left, on the track, caught on the run by the left fielder, side retired.
-
Geary to the mound, Bourn in center.
Rabelo: FB fouled back, curve misses, FB fouled back, high FB pop to third in foul territory, 1 down.
-
Almezga: tapped foul, FB high/tight, FB high, FB just outside, FB low, walked him (sez the squeezing ump)
-
Almezga: tapped foul, FB high/tight, FB high, FB just outside, FB low, walked him (sez the squeezing ump)
Homeplate ump is squeezing the shit out of Geary.
-
Sorry if this has been asked before--Where is Greg Lucas and his "man on the field" crap? I haven't watched that much of the games--three boys in Little League--but have not noticed him in the games I've watched.
-
Miller done, Gonzo at the dish: ball-Ausmus to the mound, low FB tapped right to Berkman by the bag, 2 down, runner to second.
-
Hanley Ramirez is becoming quite annoying.
-
Why did the Marlins' 3B coach stop the runner? Pence hasn't shown he can consistently make that throw.
-
Hanley: ball, hard single to right, runner holds at third as Pence scoops and fires.
-
Uggla: strike, ball, ball, low FB can-o-corn to Lee in left, side retired.
-
Sorry if this has been asked before--Where is Greg Lucas and his "man on the field" crap? I haven't watched that much of the games--three boys in Little League--but have not noticed him in the games I've watched.
Might be a proximity issue, he was doing the play-by-play of the KU/Texas Tech game today for FSW.
-
Righty Lee Gardner takes over mound duties:
Bourn (on the double switch): swing and a miss on a change, FB inside chopped foul, FB sliced to left but it hooks foul, FB way outside, breaking pitch inside, inside FB fouled back, FB outside, FB tapped foul off his foot, FB outside, walked him.
-
Might be a proximity issue, he was doing the play-by-play of the KU/Texas Tech game today for FSW.
Well, I wasn't talking about just today, I meant the entire season. I just haven't seen him.
-
Pence: high foul popped up, third baseman dropped it (E-5) for strike one, called strike two, hanging slider misses outside, slider low, ball low, Bourn running, FB hard shot to third, 1 down, Bourn to second.
-
Loretta: ball low, called strike, slider swing and a miss, FB fouled back, low FB fouled back, FB line single to left, Bourn holds at third.
-
Well, crap. Why didn't Bourn slide?
-
Another conference on the hill.
Berkman steps in: FB low and away called strike one, low FB tapped to first, throw to the plate, nabbed Bourn standing up, 2 down. Loretta to second. FC.
-
Jesus, what was that?
-
Lee: punches a slider hard and long to RF....caught near the wall, side retired.
Who's next for PBP?
-
Hermida up vs. Geary: Ball, ball, fly to El Caballo. One out.
-
Homeplate ump is squeezing the shit out of Geary.
-
Willingham:fastball apparently HIGH?, flies out to CF
-
Why did the Marlins' 3B coach stop the runner? Pence hasn't shown he can consistently make that throw.
Pence playing short, ball hit hard, down by five, two out, etc.
-
Jacobs up, 2 outs, no one on: ball, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, liner over a leaping Loretta for a single.
1 on, 2 out
-
Cantu grounds the first pitch to Tejada, who throws to 2B for the final out of the inning.
-
Well, I wasn't talking about just today, I meant the entire season. I just haven't seen him.
I just know what he was doing today. I don't know what he's been doing the rest of the time. However, his absence is likely due to him wanting to do doing more of what he was doing today and doing less "man on the field" crap.
-
Tejada up: foul, strike called, popped up to Man is that Ugly in shallow RF.
-
Blum: strike called, strike swinging, strike called. 2 outs
-

-
Good job Brocail, and Geary too.

-
Taylor Tankersley in to pitch. ERA: 15.00 Got some butt ugly cleats on. Funky back leg movement on the delivery to the plate.
Ausmus: foul, ball, strike called, foul, ball, foul, ball, foul, singles up the middle.
-
Good job Brocail, and Geary too.
Does Valverde get the ninth? Needs work maybe?

Ramirez, Uggla, Hermida up for the top of the 9th.
-
Joe Greenvalley needs to quit messing around.
-
Joe Greenvalley needs to quit messing around.
Took me a minute to get that one, but yes. He mostfuckingcertainly does.
-
Give Valverde work, he needs it in the worst way.
-
That's more like it. Celebrate, you googly-eyed basta'd.
-
Joe Greenvalley needs to quit messing around.
He slings that ball hard. Seems he did bear down. Combined shutout, well done.
-
Valverde pitching.
Ramirez singled to SS on 1-1 pitch. Nice range and strogn throw by Tejada but couldn't get HR out.
Ugla: single to left. Runners on 1B and 2B, none out.

Jacobs: strikeout.
-
Nice performance, Astros! 90 more of those and we've got something!
-
On the post game Lance's face is lookin' too big for his head. If his body was as fat as his face is he'd easily go three bills or more.
-
Trever? Greg?
Greg.
-
Sorry about the pbp, guys. My internet server went down.

No worries, we got you Backe.
