MLB Traderumors (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/04/padres-interest.html#comments) is saying likely Giants claim him or maybe San Diego due to Barrett being on the DL.

Regarding today's NYCU, Kaz desperately needs to find a translator who didn't graduate from the Babelfish School of Nuanced English.

A lot of times Japanese can't directly be translated to English so they try to do the best with what they're working with.  Same reason they've adopted a lot of English words and added U's to them mainly because there is no Japanese word for whatever it is in English.  He could probably find a native English speaker who knows Japanese though, that would be better but would make things less amusing.

The thing and the fact that Japanese many the time it possible thing and convert to English direct do it use the fact that therefore it do be attempt good. As for same reason they as for those which in those be in English be it mean the Japan word have for the sake of to main with anything you adoption many England word and U's which add do do. As for he good that it can thing find the person who speak native English which thing point funny little and perhaps but know Japanese be, but.

I would love to see the SnS recap of Kaz's first game back be written from his translator's POV.

It would very joyful.

If Carlos Lee said “That’s what I want to know, a reason why I’ve been on the DL,” we'd have a problem.  But Kazuo is probably saying he wants to fix whatever is sending him to the DL.  Also, Kazuo's mouth kept moving for several minutes while the translator relayed this.

I'm really suprised he cleared waivers.  But glad to keep him around.  I still have my doubts that Towles can stand up to a full season of everything that comes from being an everyday catcher in the Bigs, and Q is a useful guy to have around.

Brownie reports that Q will report to RR.

So, the RR roster now includes four catchers: House, Johnson, Paul, and Q.

I can't decide if Wade and Bennett are really into stockpiling or just really indecisive.

I thought one of those was picked up in just the last few days in anticipation of Q not clearing waivers.

And to consider House an option at catcher in Houston is really a stretch.

Paul.  I would have bet folding money that Quintero would not have cleared waivers and if he did, would not have accepted the assignment.  I await quotes from Q.

Maybe the best news I've heard all week.  Do you think there's any chance Ausmus turns into some kind of a coach by midseason and Q comes back up?

I see no reason why he should.  He's still one of the best catchers in the league and the Astros have no room for another coach.

No question as to his value, but he may be ready to turn over the tools in a situation like this, where he was so close to retiring and there are two good catchers in the wings.  Purely speculating.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but the fact that he starts at catcher nearly everyday in RR suggests that someone in the Astros front office considers House to be an option at catcher.

I have no idea what his readiness is, I just see that he can still catch.  The real problem is that there is no position open for another coach.  The team is full up on coaches and instructor would probably include some travel in the minors.  Do we think Ausmus would stick around for that?

I don't think anyone views him as an option with the Astros.  The Astros organization is exceptionally weak at catcher.  I think he's just a warm body for the minors.

I haven't seen any quotes from Quintero about why he accepted the assignment, he was pretty pissed when they cut him.  Footer provides a clue,

Because he had been outrighted to the Minor Leagues once before, Quintero had the right to decline the reassignment and become a free agent. Had he done so, however, he would have forfeited his salary.
