Wow. I am suprised at Perez over Q.
Regardless, here we go. Should be a fun season.
-
If someone tries to claim Q off waivers, what is the procedure for the Astros to pull him back?

While I didn't think that they'd keep three catchers, I hope that Q clears waivers and stays in the organization as insurance. Perez gets an April cup of coffee before Matsui comes back.

from the article,
Wade says "...Tomas Perez who ends up filling his spot and with his ability to play all four infield positions, particularly a pure shortstop, ..."
"I don't feel good about it," Quintero said. "I think I proved I can play in the big leagues every day. I proved it."
"I did everything in the offseason and I proved in Spring Training I can play every day in the big leagues," he said.
Footer - Because Quintero has been outrighted to the Minor Leagues before, if he clears waivers, he has the right to either elect free agency or accept the Minor League assignment.
That'll be a hard choice, if no one picks him off waivers are they going to sign him as an FA? On the other hand, he seems pissed.

Jane,I may be wrong, but I don't think they can. I'm a bit suprised at this, but I guess with Matsui out and Blum's heel barking at him Wade figured the extra infielder was just more valuable than a third catcher.
I don't think we'll see Q again.

From today they have ten days to trade him before exposing him to waivers. Ken Rosenthal says "The Tigers, Reds and Orioles were thwarted in attempts to trade for Braves catcher Brayan Pena," The Link (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7969484/Rays-shock-many-by-demoting-prospect-Longoria), so maybe there is enough demand for a guy like Quintero that the Astros felt they'd be able to work out a trade in that time. So what's the catching situation at Round Rock now? Has anyone signed Eric Munson?

Giants also could be interested Link (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/03/30/SP7VVST1Q.DTL) The more teams looking for a catcher the better chance the Astros have of trading him.
-
would be nice if a pitcher would somehow fall out of the sky and into the laps of the astros in a trade for Q

It depends upon how you define "pitcher."
-
It is awful weird seeing an Astros roster with no Biggio or Bagwell on it.
-
So why was Q on the bench according to the box score?

Munson was signed by the Brewers and sent to AAA. I don't know his situation is comparable.

I wasn't thinking of comparable, I was thinking could the Astros get him so they have some better insurance at AAA? For some reason I thought he became a FA when the Brewers designated him.

Does anyone on this board think House is decent insurance in case Towles or Ausmus falter? I remember him being a pretty hot-shot prospect back in the day, but never panned out...sorta like Munson. He's raked in the minors but never really gotten a chance at the bigs. Does he just have no idea behind the plate, or what?

Absolutely not. He's competent neither offensively nor especially defensively.

Especially given the cane, and the fact that he's actually English.

And he's a clubhouse cancer. But at least he can diagnose it.

But only after about 52 minutes (minus commercials) of smarmily mis-diagnosing about 50 other things.

So you're saying we should put him on medical staff?
