Title: Brewers Release Pitcher
Post by: toddthebod on March 25, 2008, 01:52:41 pm
From Rotoworld:

Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas.

It looks like Vargas is signed for $3.6 million for this year, which may have been why the Brewers weren't able to trade him.  He has a 3.86 ERA this spring (not bad) but his numbers in the majors have not been great.  Would the Astros be interested?

I think that we have seen that the Astros are interested in everybody.

Is he related to Huggy Bear?

This morning, Harold Reynolds was on MLB radio and the subject of the Astros lack of diversity came up.  He noted that the Astros were now a pretty diversified team and now had an African American manager but said that it was sad to be having this discussion in 2008.

Which got me thinking (pretty scary).

In past years, we have had unofficial mascots like Scott Baio and Tom Berenger (both whiter than white).  And Limey's fantasy lineup is pretty solid (CF Alba; 2B Johansson; 1B Connelly; LF Jolie; 3B Hayek; RF Sachse; C  Cuthbert; SS Beckinsale; P  Theron) but also pretty white.

Maybe we at this site should be more diverse in choosing our mascots.

Enter Antonio Fargas.

He's a bad-ass.

He's got lots of movies to watch for slumpbusting purposes.

And how many people can you say guest-starred on Police Woman, Kojak, CHiPs, Vega$, Hardcastle and McCormick, Charlie's Angels, Love Boat, Miami Vice, MacGyver, the Simpsons, and Heroes -- just to name a few memorable appearances.   That's 4 DECADES of dedication to a craft.

I'm voting for Ving Rhames.

I think we can find a spot for Syesha Mercado from American Idol on that line-up.

I'm voting for Javier Bardem.  I just watched No Country for Old Men.  He is one scary MFer.

Since it's Houston, I'm thinking Mama Ninfa.

Joe Duarte is on the ball yet again:

"I spoke with some people and the Astros have no interest in Vargas."

I think Vargas is a better pitcher than Chacon or Williams or any of the other pitchers we had fighting for the 4-5 slots, including stRanger Patterson.

:sniff:  I have had a Billy Dee Williams thing going on for some time.  He was on my avatar for several months last season. :sniff:

William Shatner?  Gavin MacLeod?  Anyway,  I am holding out for Scatman Crothers, for his work on Hong Kong Phooey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kon4czfAHu4) alone.

The question is could you have Ving Rhames, Michael Duncan and Dennis Haysbert on the same team?

With a name like Scatman, he's gotta be good.

He's gotta be lead-off.

Wesley Snipes ("Willie Mays Hayes") bats leadoff.  Scatman is more of a no. 8 hitter.

With a name like Scatman, seems he'd want to be in the 2 hole...

Scatman sounds like the nickname of a perennial minor leaguer.

I know... I retched a little bit when I wrote it.
