Wow.  Miller and Maybin may be replacements for Willis/Cabrera soon enough.  At least in the case of Miller.  But to add others to the deal and take on money by the Tigers.  Wow.

Great deal for the Fish.  Dumbrowski has some big balls alright and Willis better be as good as he can be to make this work or else it's going to look bad.  Now the Tigers have three lefty starters!  And Brandon Inge is out of a job.

i was so sick of the back forth between the marlins and the motley of LA of A/LAD/CHW.  the marlins will probably be raising another WS flag in 2011 if history bears itself again.

I can't believe the Tigers have chosen Granderson over Maybin as their longtime CF.  I think that kid is going to be one of the better players in the NL for a very long time... even if the Marlins sell him off a year or two before he hits free agency.

I was listening to MLB channel today and a scout (didn't hear who) stated that Maybin's brief time at the big league level exposed him as a very RAW but talented player.  They said many scouts had soured a bit on him due to the performance.  He felt like the rumors must have meant that the Tigers were a little down on him as well as he was pretty much untradeable before his callup.

That may explain this deal then.  Maybin was the next Ken Griffey Jr. in the minds of many. (the young Junnah, sans all the leg injuries)

maybe they could help fill that great idea called the alamodome.

here's all the players:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tigers have acquired third baseman Miguel Cabrera and left-hander Dontrelle Willis from the Florida Marlins in exchange for a package of six prospects including outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-hander Andrew Miller.
The package of prospects includes catcher Mike Rabelo, RHP Burke Badenhop, RHP Eulogio de la Cruz and RHP Dallas Trahern from the organization.

Here's part of a pro-Tiger take from baseball prospectus..

Quote
Half of the league is willing to bend over backward — perhaps giving up a package analogous to what the Tigers just gave up — for one season of Johan Santana. Although Willis is not the pitcher than Santana is by a long shot, he’s an excellent buy-low guy who was mostly victimized by some poor defense and some poor luck in Miami last year, and an extremely viable #2/#3 starter. And Cabrera might well be the equal of Santana in terms of 2008 value. In terms of overall value, the Tigers are getting perhaps three times as much incoming value as the Red Sox might get for one year of Santana.

Four is also the number of high draft picks that the Tigers will get if Cabrera and Willis eventually depart for free agency. For a team that drafts as aggressively as the Tigers do — those picks could turn into four more Rick Porcellos — that’s an extremely non-trivial factor.

Finally, four is the number of American League teams that make the playoffs. This trade addresses clear areas of need for the Tigers, and could easily be worth as many as seven or eight games in the wins column. From my vantage point, the Tigers, Indians, Yankees and Red Sox are now in a four-way tie for the Best Team in Baseball heading into 2008.....

They should stick with Inge at third and put Miguel in left field in lieu of the Thames/Jacque Jones platoon. Inge is one of the best fielding third basemen in the AL.

This is a deal I like for both parties.   For one thing, detroit outside of granderson has an all veteran lineup that needs to win now.   Cabrera is a way better fit for them than Maybin who could take time to develop.   Plus, Granderson has turned himself into a very nice player so I don't blame them for keeping him.   IMHO, I think miller will be better than willis very soon, maybe even next yr, but that's a testament to miller's ability more than anything.

As for the fish, they got two top 10 caliber prospects for their guys, along with 4 others who could pan out.   Even getting maybin/miller for those 2 alone would have blown the angels offers out of the water.

that place is not built for a baseball team.  sold to the city as multi-sport, but its not.

What a bunch of assholes.  The Marlins could've gotten Luke Scott and Chris Burke straight up.

I know I keep posting links to the Dugout, but any time they do a strip featuring Jeff Loria, it's worthwhile.

Is he going to get traded now?

Maybe Cabrera will DH. His ass is bigger than Inge.
Some say he is 20 stone + and about to eclipse Colon.

He's telling everyone he's lost 15 pounds so far in an offseason training regime and intends to lose more and has re-dedicated himself to working hard and playing baseball.  He still has that reputation of being a nightlife guy, a hard party animal.

We shall see.
