Here's a Q&A with a writer in Toronto. Granted, he's in Toronto and likely to be as much an idjit as the locals, but look at his opinion of Purpura,
Q: Should ...the Jays hire a proven GM ...I don't think the Godfrey/JP combo is working.
A: Somebody like Dave Dombrowski of the Tigers. ... at this stage of the Jays' history, a GM of vision and charm would help. It will be interesting to see where TP lands. One warning sign might be that even when he was being ballyhooed by pundits as one of the best GM prospect in the game circa 2002-2004, he was still unable to land a job at any of the number of open positions he interviewed for...

Did he interview elsewhere? For some reason, I was thinking he had turned down several interview opps to stay in Houston.

Well, he was a finalist for the Reds GM job in 2003(?), and there's an interview he had with Rob Neyer of all people talking about his experiences interviewing for different clubs, so I think it's a safe assumption he has interviewed elsewhere.

you know, something I was wondering as well was what happens to guys like Dave Wallace? I don't think I'm qualified to evaluate his job with the pitching staff.

maybe now he has been fired he wil become well known as the leader of the astros cellar dweller club
