Title: Cubs at Astros 8/8
Post by: Limey on August 08, 2007, 07:14:55 pm
Roy in trouble early, but looks to have a good googlie.

Strike zone is about the size of a peanut.  If the Astros come up hacking at Zamboner, I'll be not a little miffed.

Illadvised hack gets Roy the doctor prescribed double play grounder.  See what I mean about hacking?

Bidge took the first pitch all the way to the track in front of the visitor's bullpen.  Didn't see what happened to Lamb (quick honeydoo), but it wasn't anything good.  Berkman slugged one that was impossible to keep fair, then struck out on the next pitch.

Astros are hacking...grrrrrrrrr.

De Rosa dropped one over third base and into the corner for an easy double.  Fonteneau (sp?) moves him over with a grounder to 2nd.  Merton grounds to the drawn in infield, Bruntlett picks it and throws out the idiot De Rosa at home.  Nice!  Hill grounds softly to Bruntlett who is sucking in more balls than Jenna Jameson tonight.

A very Cubby inning.

Haven't known many Cajuns Limey?  It's Fontenot.  I grew up with plenty of Fontenots and Theriots (even related to a few), but it's tres weird to see them playing for the Cubbies.

Lee opens the bottom of the 2nd with a drive to the wall in RCF.  Stand up double.  Scott got up 3-0 but was pegged back to 3-2 before wafting at a nasty change.  Bugger.  The left side of the plate has reappeared.  Lane whiffs on a pitch that was nearly a toss to 1st.  Bruntlett hits a high chopper and beats it!  First and third.  Ausmus watches strike three.

Roy is having a good time.  Camera in tight caught his sneaky smile when he K'd Zambrano on the tight curve.  And Floyd double clutched on the change? to pop weakly.  Zambrano tried to come up and in on Roy and he just spun out, didnt even look at Zambrano.

I love Roy's loopy grin.  Good to hear from Backe and he seems to be good luck.

More honeydoos...

Cubs had some action but came up empty in the 3rd.  Highlight was Roy pulling the string on a windmilling Zambrano.

Bottom of the frame: Roy pops up to 3rd.  Biggio turns on a pitch that was tailing in on him (when will pitchers ever learn?) and smoked it to left for a four-bagger!!  Missed Lamb's out again.  Berkman walked.  Lee followed with a hot shot to the LF corner (he's not missing tonight).  First and third.  Zamboner up over 60 pitches.  Scott can't lay off the change, but wallops a fastball to the Astros' bullpen fence for a two-run triple.  3-0 Astros.  Lane almost hit by ball 1, but grounds weakly to SS.

Astros score as many runs this inning as in the last 50+ vs Zamboner.  That's "shut your mouth good"!

Ummm, Roy?  It's unseemly to complain about a lack of offensive support, and then to come out and squander a lead that that same offense has provided you. Please don't do it.

Top 4: De Rosa and Fawntanoh open the frame with matching singles to centre.  Not a good time to have an "inning", Roy!  Next Cub flies out, runners hold.  Stupidfirstname Hill walks on a full count to load 'em.  Zamboner, hacking like the douche he is, whiffs on the first two pitches, watches strike three and breaks his bat over his knee.  Brilliant stuff.  Terryoh flares one to Biggio for the final out.

Great game so far.

.1 of an Oswalt Inning.  With Zambrano he did not play.  No smiling this time.

How excited must the Cubbie front office get when they see Zambrano break a bat over his knee?  Seems like a good way to fuck up a wrist to me.

Font-E-Not.  2 out, 1st and 2nd for Lamb.

I think that single was enjoyable for Roy.

At first he was just making Zambrano throw pitches.  Then he got a fastball when the count got late.  Zambrano is squandering pitches and energy.

Lamb flies to LCF, well short of the bullpen.

End 4, 3-0.
Title: Re: Cubs at Astros 8/8
Post by: Limey on August 08, 2007, 08:26:00 pm
Bottom 4:  Bruntlett grounds weakly to short.  JD thinks Zamboner is taking something off.  Ausmus grounds weakly to short.  Roy works the count full and grounds weakly...past short!  Biggio bounces one that Zamboner tipped but should've been handled by 2B, but wasn't.  Lamb dulls the excitement by flying out to LCF.

Wonder if they've started telling Fontenot and Theriot jokes in Chicago?  Nah, they probably don't know about those and couldn't do the accent anyway.

I was anticipating one - not certain of it.  I thought he coughed it up with a pretty easy chance to step on 2b.

88 mph, no movement on that fastball to Berkman.  Faster than that leaving.

I was expecting Zambrano to be more demonstrative after the bat breaking exhibition.  Maybe he's lost focus or getting tired.

Berkman takes the first pitch of the 5th to downtown San Antonio.  88mph cripple fastball.  4-0 Astros.  Lee finally makes an out.  Scott goes down on strikes.  Lane, working on a sub-.150 average, whiffs on a pitch in the dirt.

Top 6:  De Rosa finally retired on a check swing grounder.  Next guy flies to centre.  Mhyrrt'n knocks one solidly to CF, single.  Hylle grounds one into right, 1st and 2nd for Zamboner - no pinch hitter.  A more patient approach, he actually took a couple, but he still whiffs on a tight curve.

Cub broadcast talkin' about how it's fun to watch Carlos uncork the swing and all but that he really needs to think about shortening that swing.  I thought they employed booster club announcers there; never had heard them suggest that one of their players needed to take a smarter approach to ANYthing, much less hitting.  Of course, they somehow segued Carlos' 2nd consecutive K into a knock of the quiet Houston crowd.  I think our folks are just being cautiously optimistic.

Cubs announcers are carping about how it's impossible to think they might get out of town with just one home run in this little park.  Kinda called it Coors Light, their next destination.

Believe this is where Ty has stepped in effectively a time or two already tonight.....but it's open to others.
