Title: My informal recap:
Post by: MusicMan on June 21, 2007, 09:50:35 am
Lee - can't score from first on a 2 out, misplayed double.

6 runs on one hit.

3 hits, no runs.

3 straight sliders to Biggio.

Angel Hernandez is worse at his job than anyone on Earth.

What did I miss?

The Rodfather pitched a hell of a game.  Borkowski fucked up.  And Angel Hernandez still sucks (so does OU).

PENCE!!! is still inexplicably thrown straight pitches.

In fairness, one does not expect a swing at a pitch at one's eyes.

He's hit breaking balls in the zone. Its when you throw him one out of the zone that he looks bad.

Biggio's strikeout was just awful.  But the old guy is sure as hell not a quitter--hustling his ass off to first on his next at bat, stealing second, and then scoring.  Is it possible that Lee and Berkman were watching that?

...because...it would cause them...to....?

i'm still trying to figure out how Lee did not score on a two out double to the corner.  He had to have been playing marbles or something.

You know, I don't recall Berkman loafing like this before, at least this blatant. It's almost as if he watched Carlos a few games, then thought 'I don't have to hustle either.'

At least 5 more years of this shit, for both of them.

Slight rant: When you step between the lines, go 100% or don't bother going. You make mega-bucks 'working' three hours a day for half a year. Is it too much to ask for a little hustle?

Berkman fancies himself as the leader of this team, but it appears that all he can do is pop off from time to time. perhaps someone should explain to him what a real leader does.

I read somewhere, and it could have been in Moneyball, that some A's player (Terrance Long?) had his car egg'd to shit in the player parking lot for not busting his ass down the line on grounders.

I hear they're selling "eggs" at "grocery stores" now.

Every time I hear that Berkman is the "leader" of the Astros (most recently by Vin Scully last week), I make my "is that gas" face and wonder which Astros are being referred to.

Lance Berkman isn't the leader of this team in any way, shape or form.  I'm not sure he even tries to be.

The few "inside" sources I still have with the Astros (which are not as many as I used to have) all say the real leader of the team is Adam Everett.  I was surprised by that (and I like Adam a lot).  I thought it would be Berkman or maybe still Bidge.  But it is Everett.  Supposedly the players all respect him more than anyone else.  They like Berkman too but he is considered more of a clown.

the absence of a man who shall go nameless, but it started with "Bag" and ended in "well".

This is very true.

Quite true, and exactly why most of the media hacks didn't understand the importance of AE's injury.

Adam is very underrated.  Plays the best shortstop in MLB (by far).  His loss is a big blow.  I want him to hit well too, but his defense and leadership are key on this team.

Sadly, that's a lot more justifiable than Star Wars at #13.

My bad.  After my failure to get back for Wandy's start of the first, I quit channel-hopping.

Obnoxiously extended recap now available (http://www.orangewhoopass.com/forums/index.php?board=8.0), but yeah, you pretty much covered it.

One clarification after reading GZ.

whatev: As Alkie noted, completely Gen X/possibly gay.
whatevs: the "s" makes it millenial

Both: totally heinous (as we said in the 80s)

What did I miss?

When Bruntlett was at bat, I thought to myself "Hmmmm... might the use of Eric Munson be in order here?".  But then I thought "No, let the kid swing the bat and be a hero".  When Biggio came up to bat, I asked again "Hmmmmm.... might the use of Eric Munson be in order here?".  Sadly, I never thought otherwise.  In fact, I replied to myself this way "Damn straight!".

It is sad for me to think this way about Craig Biggio, but I do.  Sad, sad, sad.  Oh, and I hate you Brownie for reminding everyone that two night previous Biggio had a similar situation (bases loaded, two outs, facing K-Rod) and struck out.  I don't need to be reminded what has happened to know what is going to happen.  I know already... m'kay!?!?

That's where I sit on the biggio situation to a t. I knew both nights the odds of a K in that situation against a guy with a great slider was about 100%
