Derrek Lee takes one up around the head, looks like the pitch got away from Chris Young. The Padre catcher is talking to the ump about it hitting the knob of his bat or something, and then the camera cuts away and Lee is giving some lip to Young... and then takes a swing but didn't really connect. Benches clear and Zambrano has to be restrained. His belt was coming off for some reason, it was strange.
Lee is big, but Chris Young is bigger.

Apparently some bad blood from yesterday, but no warnings issued before the game today:
When Cubs slugger Alfonso Soriano did a backwards strut after homering against Padres pitcher David Wells today, several Padres players found it unsportsmanlike. Among those perturbed by Soriano's flamboyance was Padres ace Jake Peavy, who was among the Padres sitting in the first-base dugout not far from Soriano as the hitter admired his homer.
"I didn't appreciate that. Just play the game," Peavy said after the Padres were defeated 4-1 at Wrigley Field. "They pay him $136 million to hit home runs. They don't pay him to be a circus act on the field. If I think a player shows me up like that, I like the next guy to take one in the stinkin' ribs."
I watched this yesterday, Soriano watched the ball go on to Waveland while he backwards trotted down the line.
Today, Lee and Young got tossed. Also, Padre pitching coach and Jake Peavey.

Unfortunate way to mar a pretty good pitching matchup. Advantage for the Cubs.

Young took a swing at Lee that, had it landed, well, I don't want to think what might have been the result.
I would've kicked out Zambrano. He came in late, from behind and whaling. I think he was in the clubhouse taking a piss when it all started.
The umpire should've been out there between Young and Lee from the get-go, instead of jawing with the Padres' catcher. Of course, the catcher should've been out there, too.
The odd thing was, when the fight broke out in the bottom of the 4th, both Young and Zambano were throwing no-hitters.
Also, a Hiram Bocachica sighting.

Nice job by the younger Giles to break up the no no.
-
BS scorers decision keeps Zambrano's no-hit bid alive.

Not quite. Ruled E3. No-no still going.
Did everyone hear that? Fucking Zambrano has a fucking no hitter in the 6th.

Ain't that some shit.

77 pitches for Z.

I assume you are watching the WGN feed. Mark Grant is channeling Harry Caray on the Pads broadcast. Friggin' hilarious.

Through 7 now.

Hell of a play by Zambrano. Not sure what Black was arguing.
-
Huh. I'll be darned. Zambrano has a no-hitter going. Boy, those are exciting, aren't they, no-hitters? It would be amazing if he were able to keep this no-hitter going for another couple of innings. He only has six more outs to go to preserve his no-hitter.
-
By the way, let's not overlook the fact that the Cubs have not scored. How awesome would it be if this cocksucker takes a no-no into the ninth only to watch his team score no runs, have the thing go to extra innings and watch Zambrano run out of gas?
Fucking Cubs.

Pads came dang close to scoring a run without recording a hit in the 7th. I'd love to see him pitch a no no and take the loss.
-
did Lee not wanna land his first punch? he clearly pushes chris young back and misses his first big swing
-
Pads announcers have taken to calling Jose Cruz Jr. "Cheo". As a lifelong Astros fan, this bugs the everloving crap out of me.
-
That better be a freaking hit.
ETA: and it is. Giles breaks up the no no with an infield single off Z's glove. 8.1 innings of no hit.
-
Its over. Giles breaks it up with a high bouncer just off Zambrano's glove.
-

Not going to see the no-no. Might just get to see the loss. Here's hoping.

What happened? I can't get the game.
ETA: You added it as I was typing. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be 7.1 innings? Was it not the top of the 8th?

Yes... I suck.

Russell Branyan hits strike 4 out to left center. 1-0 Pads.
-
Branyan's pop-up carries out of Wrigley for a 1-0 Pads lead.
-
And the ejection works out in the Pads favor as Jacque Jones makes the final out in what would have been Lee's spot in the order
-
Cubs suck.
-
With that bullpen, Bud Black has the easiest managerial job in MLB.

Looks like Young landed a decent right hand.

Baseball fights are so much fun to watch lol.

Boy, Piniella sure has worked wonders for that clubhouse.

5 games each for Lee and Young, and undisclosed fine.
Cubs hitting coach gets 3 games for aggressive actions.
Brian Giles and Peavey got fines.

I'm loathe to ever advocate throwing at someone, because I think you hurt your team more by putting somebody on, but in Soriano's next turn at the plate, I would put one in his ear for this.

Speaking of which, last night after Mike Lamb's homerun, John Lackey threw up and in (head area) to Luke Scott (who himself hit a homerun his previous at bat). Umpire didn't even try to make anything of it, just gave Scott first base and Lackey a new baseball.
I don't think the ball hit him at all, but everyone seemed to be cool with it... Lackey was frustrated and pushed back on the Astros. The umpire didn't interfere and Scott just went to first and the Astros never retaliated.

I though Sampson would at least back someone up after that. I was wrong.

Given his command last night, there's no easy way to tell if he was trying.
