The Angels had preliminary discussions with Cincinnati about acquiring Dunn, according to a baseball source, but those talks quickly ended when the Reds requested a proven major league starting pitcher, a major league infielder — preferably a second baseman — and a top prospect.
Those demands were considered too hefty for a player whose $13-million option for 2008 would be voided if he's traded, meaning he could become a free agent after this season. The Angels probably wouldn't even trade second baseman Howie Kendrick for Dunn straight up, according to the source.

Hundreds watched Friday as a crane lifted a muddy package from a hole in the courthouse lawn: a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere buried to celebrate Oklahoma's 50 years of statehood.
The car spent the last half-century covered in three layers of protective material and encased in a 12-by-20-foot concrete vault, (underneath the courthouse in Tulsa) supposedly tough enough to withstand a nuclear attack.
Whether the car will start was unknown. Those who gathered to watch it being pulled out of the ground did not seem to care.
"I just need to see it," said Marc Montague of Auckland, New Zealand, among the couple hundred spectators amassed at the downtown site Thursday afternoon. "I've been waiting 15 years for this."

I'm headed to New Zealand in August, and am intrigued to see if this is normal Kiwi behavior.

Depends. North Island, maybe. South Island, ehh, not so much.

Angels also interested in Tejada. A snippet about last year's trade deadline:
The Angels are reportedly interested in obtaining Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada. Last July, the teams agreed to a deal that would have sent Erick Aybar and Ervin Santana to Baltimore, but Orioles owner Peter Angelos nixed it.
From what I can tell, Santana is a 3rd or 4th starter. ERA 4.28 or higher last three season. Aybar doesn't seem to be much of anything.

If the Orioles are rejecting that, they'd certainly ask for HP in any deal we talked.

santana is the textbook definition of enigma--great at home but truly abominable on the road.

that coupled with GAP having a rep a hitter's park, then that would spell almost certain doom for santana in Cincinnati.
The Reds really hosed themselves when they let Dunn have that trade provision if he is traded. He is probably their most marketable piece, yet no team will want to give up what the Reds think they deserve with no guarantee than Dunn will resign with them after he opts out at season's end.

Are the Reds forgetting Dunn's 150k .250BAavg? Both of these are consistent throughout his seasons...He's worth no more than one of top prospect/proven major league pitcher and an ok-ish infielder thrown in..

That was last season. When the Orioles had asked for Roy Oswalt, Morgan Ensberg and Adam Everett.

basically they're screwed and will have to talk themselves into either accepting less in a trade or take that first round draft pick when he signs elsewhere in the offseason

You think they'd have included Jay Gibbons if we threw em Berkman?

Likely, they were just going to flip the whole package to the Mets for Lastings Milledge anyway.

I'd be surprised if the Angels would still do that deal, in light of how well Cabrera is hitting this season.

I thought it was convenient that Angelos also pulled the plug on that deal at the last minute.

The rust bucket wouldn't start, the beer cans are rusty, and the 'contest' entries can't be found. Stupid Okies. (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/15/buried.classic.ap/index.html)
