AE went out on a fly ball to left. Lee comes slow, AE glances out to see where he is and Lee I guess takes this as a plea for help. Lee speeds up and has to slide to avoid taking Everett out, but slides into AE's planted foot. AE immediately grabs for the lower leg above the ankle.
Lots of flex above the ankle. No word yet on extent of injury.
-
Right leg. Off to the hospital for xrays.

bones heal better than tendons and ligaments. lets hope that's all there is.

Not that I'm advocating this (so be gentle in any beat downs) but who wants to wager if this injury renews the Lidge for Tejada nonsense?

This sucks. His defensive abilities will be missed. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

"It's actually pretty funny," Burke said. " Carlos Lee on his first day here, told me, 'Catch anything you can. But if I call for it, get out of my way." Link (http://www.orangewhoopass.com/forums/index.php?topic=101696.0)
No longer funny.

So does Loretta get the bulk of the starts in AE's absence?

Presumably, although I'd like to see Bruntlett out there when Sampson is on the mound.

If he can play SS, fine by me.
If I hear one person say "Burke to SS", my head will explode. Yes, you can safely assume this means I am blocking 790AM from my dial.

If people are still riding Burke's jock, they must not watch the games.

i like pallilo over 610, but does he have to remind me of biggio's avg./ops every single segment?

...kind of why the 790 stream is off now.
man--and then when matt jackson joined rich Lord on the afternoon show, i just stopped even switching over on 790 breaks.
i prefer pallilo's analytical angle, but he just beats the same thing over and over again.

so probably not reliable but they just said on the news on fox at least 9 weeks.

mark berman usually scoops everybody else so that might be accurate. 8 wks, 9 wks, either way i dont see everett being able to make a tangible contribution until september.

Some people are fucking dirtbags.
From Dick's blog:
I received a stunning number of posts from people who wrote that Adam Everett's injury was a good thing. I didn't post any of them. I can't comprehend someone being happy about a broken leg.

Un-fucking-believable

Lee comes slow...Lee I guess... Lee speeds up... but...
Carlos Lee plays worse defense than FEMA.

some guy i sat next to tuesday only wanted to hear about the offensive side of AE's game, and not the baserunners and subsequent scoring chances he eliminates with his glove. i dont get it.

So they can have sooo much fun watching what will be pretty much the worst defensive team in the history of ever...
Well, OK, if you're the kind of guy who gets off on watching bones snap... you might even enjoy that kind of shitfest...

Adam Everett has been the Astros most reliable hitter for well over the past month. He was hitting significantly over .300.

Didn't his last major injury occur when he had a hot bat? Or am I thinking of someone else?
-
Just looking at astros.com and Adam Everett is not on the active roster or the 40-man. I did not think he would be taken off (40-man) for an injury.

I don't remember the numbers, but yes, he was hitting well when he suffered the broken arm.

Broken wrist on August 6, 2004.
.306/.358/.510, 5 HR, 16 RBI over previous 25 games.
This year:
.278/.313/.367, 1 HR, 7 RBI over previous 25 games.

That number jumps out at me. That's a 30 hr clip! Shitty timing indeed, then and now.

I heard Carlos Lee on the radio (740 am) this morning talking about how playing leftfield in Minute Maid is a lot harder than he had expected. He's having to play back further than he thought because of the Crawford Boxes angle. But, going back is difficult too, he says. I had seen a couple weeks ago, and I thought I had posted it, Everett talking about the strategy of playing Lee back and letting him take the short pops. Can't find it now. But, given the situation, this meeting in what the two are calling "no man's land" seems almost inevitable.

Try explaining that to Pinwheel. You would have lost him at "heard Carlos Lee talking."

Why would anyone try to explain anything to Dick Justice? He's worthless as an Astros commentator.

I didnt want to stray into hyperbole. I've never paid any attention to any of his commentary about any other topic. I do know that he knows absolutely nothing about the Astros and suspect he knows absolutely nothing about baseball.

He's on there today. 15-day DL on the 40-man roster.

I think he only comes off the 40-man roster if he goes on the 60-day DL. 8 weeks is 56 days, so I think, barring any setbacks, he'll stay on the 15-day and 40-man DL and roster respectively.

Dammit, I go off to Canada for three days--THREE DAYS--and you idjits allow this to occur. Not happy.
Seriously, I'll get caught up with the old posts eventually but can somebody bring me up to speed about Everett's injury and the day-to-day shortstop situation as of, say, right now? Saw a highlight (that hardly seems to be the appropriate word) about it on SportsCentre (amongst the hockey highlights, even though it's June) and my first thought was, "Dang, now what?"
BTW, Toronto is a great place to visit. If you ever get the chance to go (June-July-August, at least) I'd highly recommend it.

Broke fibula. No problem with the knee or ankle. Officially, "4 to 8 weeks". Purpura on the pregame yesterday said Everett is not even in a cast. There's a boot thing he's wearing. He made it sound that if you're going to have a broken leg, this is the one to have. JD said they're going to xray every other day. So they'll know the minute it's healed. Once he's recovered they'll need to get him back to baseball shape. Most important part is to make sure he can move side to side. They called up Bruntlett but Footer is writing that Loretta will likely see most of the time.
-
Thanks. Whether you love Everett or hate him (I fall somewhat in the middle--hear that, Purpura?), it's clear that there really isn't a good plan B for SS. I was trying to figure out amongst Loretta-Bruntlett-Burke(?) who is the best (least bad?) option to play daily.
Oh, well. I guess in the short-term we get to see what an Everett-less Astros team looks like. It'll be interesting but I hope his return date is closer to 4 rather than 8 weeks.

Already saw a little of it, the relay throw on the inside the park homerun. Everett would have gone and got that, but last night Biggio decided to "take charge". Do the Mariners send him knowing there's a better arm in the relay? Run may have still scored, but the throw would have been better.

I think I read in JAMA or somewhere, they need to hook up Oswalt's truck to AE's leg. It'll speed up the healing process.

If you ask me, Alan Ashby came out way ahead on the deal.
