Title: Mitch Einertson
Post by: Froback on May 29, 2007, 10:28:58 am
Seems that Mitch might be finally getting over the hump and getting back into prospect talk again.  He isn't setting the world on fire like he did in his first pro season, but he is putting up some pretty good numbers at Salem.  As of this he is batting .305 with a .387 OBP and a .844 OPS.  Like I said, not setting the world on fire, but very nice to see after a couple of very tough years.

I think the OF of Flores, Einerston and Iorg is looking pretty sharp right now.

Mitch is having a nice season.  He hasn't appeared to have off field issues that we know of since the 05 season.  Sustain his play on the field and no recurring issues off the field will be the test for him.

Of the three outfielders you mentioned, Flores (who can absolutely FLY) and Iorg are well ahead of Einertson at this time.

Not arguing that.  Mitch had a rough go of it lately, so it is just good to see him getting back on track.  Iorg is still a bit old for this level too, isn't he?  And Flores is doing well, I can live with a .360 OBP if you can fly like he can....

It just hit me... it is SO nice having actual position players to talk good about in the minors, again.

Amen, too bad it is a short conversation.

It's a lot longer than it was before the season.

Einertson had another big night tonight.  Parraz is looking OK, and Van Ostrand is also looking pretty nice, as is Torres, and Sapp.  Not to mention the life shown by Bogusevic.  All in all, I gotta believe the organization is feeling much better about things on the farm.

I saw Torres listed at Salem.  Is this temporary?  Also, any description of him or Van Ostrand would be much appreciated.

No info, but based on box score speculation I wonder if Sutil got hurt a coiuple of nights ago ... he came out very early in the game and the next day Torres showed up on the roster and got the start.  Any real info out there?

Iorg went on the DL due to an elbow injury.  Torres was brought up to take his spot.

After searching through earlier posts, it was mentioned that Einertson had some personal issues.  Jacksonian sounded an alarm that at least one was "severe."  I'm not asking what those were, as it is none of my business, but what I am asking to Jacksonian is this: In your opinion, is it possible that those issues are behind him, or in other words, can we start thinking about him as a prospect, or would that be foolish, or at a minimum, should that thinking be tempered?

Those issues are serious.  I have not heard anything with regard to them for some time now.  Einertson has not been sent home since the summer of 05.  So, I'll say I no longer know if he's still having behind the scenes difficulty.  If not, and he's matured, then he's a prospect.  How high will be determined by his work the rest of this year and beyond.  He is not a "can't miss prospect."  He's got skills.  But, he's also something of a 'tweener.  He's doesn't really have the range you want in CF.  And, he doesn't quite hit for the power you want in a corner OF.  Wait and see.

Any chance he is a mid-season move up?  Who do you guys think might get a mid-season promotion?

I'm probably not one of the "guys" to whom this was addressed, but I'd bet that Parraz is in line ahead of Mitch for the bump to Salem.

I'm going to guess no.  He's been inconsistent with a terrible April and hot May.  He's starting to cool off again.

If I had to guess, and at this stage they haven't decided who will get moved, I will guess Parraz will get bumped from Lex to Salem and Brad James will move from Salem to Corpus.  Iorg was a sure bet until he got injured.  Any move from Corpus to RR will be necessitated by injury or a corresponding callup to Houston.  I'll also guess there will be movement of lower tier players to cover roster changes.  That's just off the top of my head.  If I think of any others when I have time to research them better I post it.

I did not want to give you any work to do, but I do appreciate the research you do.  Thanks.

Mitch Einerston may turn out to be the next Jack Cust when all is said and done.  A man destined for the American League that labors in the minor leagues of a National League team.

You probably didn't do yourself any favors by quoting it again.

Intresting find: http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2004/10/19/news/columnists/john_maffei/10_18_0419_35_07.txt

Its a few years old and Einertson hasn't made the transition to second base in the minors yet. I figure since there hasn't been anything new on it, he wasn't doing very well at the position. Or, are the astros still considering this as a possibility?

I guess the older posts got whiped out, basically they tried to teach him 2B, during some instructional league stuff the season after they drafted him, he really did poorly trying it then, so the idea has been dropped.  Based on what I have seen recently, the club would just be happy if he gets back to being an OF prospect rather than worrying about moving positions on him too.

Haven't seen anything about it as of yet, they have been on a road trip and news doesn't come out as fast.
