MoBerg and Lame in the lineup together. AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!! What happened, Scraps, you don't like Wandy any more?
-
Well, I would have said that he's trying to get a good defense out there behind Wandy, except that Loretta is at SS, which is a little confusing. But Lane in RF is probably a better defensive option than Luuuuuuke.
-
I'm assuming Koronka is a LHP...
-
Is this the first time PENCE!!! has hit in the 5 spot?
-
Is this the first time PENCE!!! has hit in the 5 spot?
I think so. Its a slap at MoBerg?
-
I'm assuming Koronka is a LHP...
Yep, exactly why Lane is starting.
-

Yup

He better not take it that way. PENCE!!! has been hitting much better than Iceberg.
-

Yeah but its a vet vs. rook kind of thing.
-
Good guys can't capitalize on Loretta's BB. We should be able to get to Koronka. He was 3-3 with a 5.4 ERA down in AAA.
-
"In My Own Words" with Lance Berkman at 10:00 p.m. on FSN

A rookie the good guys have never seen before? We're doomed. DOOMED I tell you.

According to the announcers, we beat him last year. So this isn't his first trip to the Show.
-
Bill Brown just said "Kenny Lofton started in the center garden spot last night." I'm on my 5th gin and/or tonic. Did I hear correctly?

You did! My immediate thought was 'Dude, Brownie's been reading OWA!"

Thank goodness, then we have a chance.

Last hit April 19th??? Is that POSSIBLE? Or did it say last HR...

He's 1-24 so it probably is true.
-
WTF is Lame doing swining on 3-0 with his stats???
-
WTF is Lame doing swining on 3-0 with his stats???
Quite simple: living up to his name!

Mr. Pop-up
-
Mr. Pop-up
He bailed big time. He was facing third when he hit it. Makes me wonder what the fuck is the hitting coach doing? Lane has been pulling off for two fucking months.
-
He's 1-24 so it probably is true.
Last hit was a double (RBI double, I believe) on May 8th in Cincy. No idea what it said, but I can't imagine it was correct.
I thought it said HR, but his last HR was on April 21st.
-
I predict at least two runs for the Astros in the 3rd.
-
I predict at least two runs for the Astros in the 3rd.
Agreed. I predict 25+ pitches for Koronka in hte next frame.
-
speaking of predictions... does OWA have a Biggio countdown
contest or is that heresy.
for me: July 7th
-
when was the last time this team had a hit before the 5th inning?
-
Whoa! Jason just robbed Young of a HR there. Made it look effortless, too!
Jason's had some very nice defensive plays in his last few starts.
-
bunt single 2969!
-
when was the last time this team had a hit before the 5th inning?
Probably last night
-
What is with Berkman striking out so much lately?
-
What is with Berkman striking out so much lately?
His bat is often not making contact with the ball on swings with 2 strikes.
-
God Ensberg is just horrible.
-
Thanks for nothing MoBerg. Foul out!!!!
-
My internets was fucked up just as Pence did whatever he did. What did he do? Single? Where? Thanks.
-

Hard single up the middle, scoring Biggio.
-
Koronka looks a bit like Alex Karas... check that, I mean Eric Karros.
-
Ensberg always looks confused when he actually swings the bat.
-
Wandy seems to be getting a much better ratio of Ks this year.
-
Damn, he made them look silly that inning.
-

2005 K/9 5.60
2006 K/9 6.50
2007 K/9 8.24
-
Koronka 89 pitches through 4 IP. I'm sure that Washington's thrilled.
-
whats the rangers bully look like
-
gotta throw strikes to the bottom of the lineup...
-
Well, he got the pitcher... now its Kinsler.... who's 2 for 2 against wandy so far
-
Twinkie's looking like shit from the right side tonight.
-
His bat is often not making contact with the ball on swings with 2 strikes.
another strike out; how does hard does koronka throw?
-
last three games the offense is on hiatus: pitchers
1) Linecum (sp?)
2) Tejada
3) Koronka
c'mon, I realize I couldn't hit my way out of a paper bag but
we are striking out way too much... anyone with NL stats on team K's

just wait till we visit sf on monday, care to guess how many runs we're gonna score against Lowry, Lincecum, and Zito?
Our offense is just mind boggling
-
That just sucks. I don't mind him driving in the run, just do it with a real hit. That sucked.
-
wandy's control looks off... he looks done
-

ok, what happened? Why was it not a real hit? Was outside w/ the kids.
-

Chunked off the handle into right center. Pence got a late jump, but I don't really think anybody would have caught it. It was just one of those excuse-me things.

the leadoff man gets on base less than 30% of the time, the #3 hitter hasn't come to life yet, and the team can't find a consistent #5 hitter. its quite understandable that the team's offense has been bad.
-
This guy is so overdue.
-
the team can't find a consistent #5 hitter.
Maybe they have.
-
So is this guy
-
This guy is so overdue.
Let's try this with Lane.
This guy is so overdue.
-
Well!
-
Ok, that wasn't exactly in the script, but I"ll take it.
Lane's expression as he was looking at Manso was "you're kidding, right?".
-
was that a sacrafice, or a bunt for a hit?
-
Let's try this with Lane.
This guy is so overdue.
Didn't expect a bunt.... but I'll take it
-

And he bunts for a hit. I saw it with my own eyes, and I am still not sure I believe it happened.
Sphinx, you may be on to something.

With that bunt, his BA is back to .200
-
Well that sucked.
-
Ausmus with the laser-guided GIDP. Remarkable.

Came into play tonight with the 10th most at 273. Cardinals had the fewest at 200, Marlins have the most at 352. Pretty much splitting the difference.
-
OK, here's the new lineup. Ensberg leads off. He walks. Lane comes up second. He bunts for a hit. Lance comes up third. He strikes out. Lee is next. He doubles Ensberg home. Pence is 5th. He singles to center scoring Lane and Lee. Biggio sixth. He homers to the Crawford Boxes. 7th, 8th and 9th, who the hell cares?
-
Let's see if Feldman knows how to throw a slider away and in the dirt.
Edit: Apparently not.
-
Well, the good news is that it looks like Feldman doesn't have a slider. Go Biggio!
-
thanks for the info
-
I have to admit, it looked like he was out to me.
-
can berkman emerge from his slumber?
-
Horrible call. Denkinger like...
Break for the Astros
-
Wow, what was the umpire thinking? Did he think a tag was needed?
-
That was a travesty of a call.
-
Embarassingly bad call.
-
Sammy the Clown tripped over his oversized red shoes out there in RF.
-
Christmas in May for the Astros.
-
Sammy the Clown tripped over his oversized red shoes out there in RF.
Outstanding. I can't stand that fucker.
-
Wow, that's a prize-winning moustache!
-
Outstanding. I can't stand that fucker.
And he tried to say he caught it. Liar and a cheater. Anyone check his bat tonight?
-
Pence sure doesn't get cheated on his swings. I guess he thinks choking up on the bat is for pansies.
-
Well, the Brewers are ten games over .500. Something else I would have considered unlikely ever to say is this: Wandy Rodriguez pitched a brilliant game.
-
wandy has been pretty good this year...
not a lot of big run innings, more K's less BB's
-
did anyone else get a chuckle from JD's "theres serena" line?
-
Man, Brad seems so much more comfortable not having to worry about nailing down a game. Unfortunately I don't think the Astros like having a $5 million setup man and middle reliever.
-

(raises hand shyly)
But then again, 95% of what he says cracks me up.

Why not, lots of teams have $4-6 mil guys like that. Plus, the Astros currently have a $400,000 (or whatever) closer in Wheels.

Exactly. Not only is it a non-issue, it's a wash.

Dan Wheeler 2007 salary - $2,100,000
I've got no problem if the Astros pay Lidge $6 million. I just would like more production out of him than a 7th inning setup guy.

Sorry to do this after-the-fact but I got to go to the game tonight (holy crap, what a beautiful night in Houston--too bad we can't bottle one of these and save it for mid-August) and haven't seen any replays. When I am fortunate enough to attend I always make a mental note of things to check in the GZ when I get home. Almost always my questions are already answered, but it seems like there were not many folks around tonight so the discussion was kind of limited.
That being said, when seen live it sure looked like Lamb was out by a good 5 feet at 3rd on that play in the 6th. It seems like the GZ-dwellers saw it the same way. What the hell happened?
And soon after on the ball Berkman hit to right that was ruled no catch, was it the right call? I didn't really get a good look at it.
Just wonderin'.

He was out. Ump just blew the call.
Berkman call was right - the ball bounced and Sammy trapped it. He just stood up and for a second pretended he'd caught the ball before he threw it into the infield.
-
Much obliged. Our seats are on the 3B side so I wouldn't have been surprised either way with respect to Sosa's play. It's just nice to get some feedback about what actually happened.
