Title: Bullpen thoughts
Post by: Froback on May 14, 2007, 10:22:30 am
Sorry, had to start a new thread, as the other turned into pain pill talk.

I have heard people talk about some of the really good pens as shortening the games to 7 or 6 inning affairs because of the 1-2 or 1-2-3 punch of certain guys in the bullpen.

But given that bullpen guys can't throw every day, that really makes that hard to maintain.  The Astros however look like they have 2 closers at the moment (Wheeler and Lidge seems to be making his way back) and like 3 set-up guys (Qualls, White and maybe Bork).  To me that means you really can shorten every game to 6 or 7 inning affairs.  Granted nobody is perfect, but that bodes well given the Astros have a few guys who we are ecstatic if they go 7.

So if this offense ever starts figuring out how to drive in all those LOBsters, this team can make a hell of a charge... but then they always seem to do that, don't they?

And Miller's looked a whole lot better in the last week or so:  4.1, 3H, 1BB, 6K, 0R.  LHB are 2 for their last 11, 0BB & 6Ks, and he's faced some good ones.

I like the makings of this pen.  A lot.

i am getting less and less nervous when they throw lidge out there, and yesterday wandy gave some good innings which in the longrun would help the situation
