Had my money on Burke.
-
Had my money on Burke.
Astros have 1 homerun in last 10 games, Mike Lamb pinch job in Milwaukee.
-
Had my money on Burke.
What the Astros need is some youthful enthusiasm leading off. Couldn't hurt.

This game is blacked out for me on MLB.TV and I live in fucking southern california.
-
What the fuck is going on with the KTRH Gameday Audio feed??????? First time this year I actually have a use for this and they've been playing ads on loop for the last 20 minutes!!!!

Yeah I noticed that too and had to jump to the Jakes feed

This game is blacked out for me on MLB.TV and I live in fucking southern california.
It's the fucking FOX Saturday exclusive window. Even though none of the THREE FOX affiliates I get on DirecTV (DC, NY & LA) are showing a game right now, I'm blacked out too. Does anyone know how that IP proxy thing works? I've never been able to make it work.

Funny thing is I was able to get the game on mlb.tv a few weeks ago even when Fox games were on
FOX started their broadcasts earlier this year than in the past. They used to not have any games until sometime in May. Maybe they didn't amend the contract to give them exclusive access for those early games--although I doubt it. More likely, MLBTV made a mistake.
-
Albers on the rubber, Rolen leads off
sinker low, ball one
FB inside, fouled back
FB inside, fouled past third, 1-2
FB, can-o-corn to center, Pence camps under it, 1 down

that is BS. he is pitching very well.
Astros batters are swinging at ball 8 inches off the plate. If you want to credit the pitcher, fine. I see a bunch of guys who are impatient and pressing at the plate.
-
Hollywood getting some grief from the fans in the outfield, turns around and yells back.
i guess they haven't been informed of his baiting master plan.

Time for Carlos to do some damage.
-
FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!! IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!
-
Carlos with the sacks full
High fly to right, Spiezio drifts back, keeps drifting....over his head for a bases clearing triple!! 6-0 Astros.
Pitch was a low FB, Wells is toast. Tyler Johnson enters.
-
Low and away. I was surprised that Wells didn't try to start him inside again. Carlos got a lot of wood on a pretty good pitch.
-
Spezio played that Lee fly terribly. JD said he broke straight to center instead of back toward the wall, so he had no chance. It was a high fly, so if he breaks correctly he makes the play. It was a warning track shot.
The Astros ran on Edmonds arm again to get Berkman home.
-
Luuuuke w/ Lee camped on third after the double and to third on the throw home
slider strike
slams a double over Edmonds, high off the wall, RBI. Yeah!!

-
Pence
curve missed
curve swing and a miss
curve tapped to short, Scott holds, 2 down
-
I cannot get enough of watching Anaheim Jimmy play absurdly shallow and have to chase balls back to the wall. Luke is hittin' the walls and workin' the middle.
-
Luke was obviously baited on that one.
-

He was running a little slow, I think he thought it was gone. Either that or he knew he was too shallow and would never catch it.

Mike Shannon on the Jakes broadcast says Carpenter will be out for next 3 months. Surgery on Monday.
Really?? On the broadcast last night the Cards announcers said something to the effect that he would be back soon. What happened?

Said arthoscopic surgery was scheduled for Monday due to tightness, swelling and loss of motion.

Agreed. A couple of the guys on here have been concerned that Twinkie is playing hurt, but no evidence of that as far as I know.

sounds almost like he had to muscle it out, if it was on the outer third and he hit it to LCF. And our rookie hitter > their rookie pitcher in that confrontation.
-
Springer just duped Ausmus for the K.
Springer trying not to laugh. Brad wonders (along with JD) what the hell was that pitch.
-
Yep, but it counted! Dove was wild with a funky motion.
The 3rds announcers, Al especially, were all over him, saying that he shouldn't be in the bigs because he hadn't had any success in AA and he has no major-league quality off speed pitch and because he has no control over his fastball and very little movement besides. Other than that, he's great.

Fine, I guess my point was that there is at least a potential surplus of starting arms. Jennings return is (hopefully) not too far off, and the assumption would be that Albers is sent back down, but if he keeps pitching like this it would sure be tough.

I don't think Lane has an option left. If he does, he would have to clear waivers. Burke probably has an option, but not sure about waivers.

was above what MLB umps call strikes. it was at or above the letters

Good job from the entire team today.
Albers was nails.

I was obviously exaggerating a bit, as no other hitter has a zone like vlad, it was mainly for effect.

if Lee were hitting, he'd have 50 RBI by now. he has two on every time.

you only have to clear waivers if you don't have minor league options, you are right.
edit: I guess not, see amy's post.
-
if you have options, i do not think there are waivers involved. those are free, i think.
Yes there are. It has something to do with ML service time. When Bruntlett was sent down to AAA this year he had to clear waivers. There was a quote from him that he was surprised and a little disappointed that no team claimed him. If he hadn't had an option, he could have become a free agent.
-

was he optioned to RR or outrighted to RR? there is a difference.
i know Bruntlett had to clear waivers. so did Randolph after being DFAed.
better look this up. i do not know, and neither do you.

No, he had to accept the assignment if no one claimed him. Bruntlett was out of options. A player has to have five years service before he can refuse the assignment, IIRC.

Please do, I'm curious. Obviously, I'm not completely clear on how the whole thing works. I do remember last year when Bruntlett was sent down in August instead of Lane because, while he and Lane both had an option left, Bruntlett cleared waivers and Lane did not. But maybe the waivers were only required because it was after July 31st? Not sure.

I just watched the homer via dvr and he definitely did not hit that ball where it was pitched(if he did it goes to RF), but he has really quick bat speed from what I saw.
