Title: Salem Roster Article
Post by: Duman on April 03, 2007, 05:34:01 am
Pankovits says ""great pitching" in spring training, "but not as much hitting as I would have liked."

Only 4 returning players Sheldon, Sutil, Shortell, & Hart.  The article doesn't give a full list.  I figure the web sites will have it sometime today.

It will be interesting to see who starts in the OF with Flores and Eli (the two I think should start).

I think Iorg will be in RF, Flores in CF and Einertson in LF.

Two players skip lex and go from Tri cities to Salem.  Salamida and Rosales.  I am surprised about Rosales.  I was impressed with his outfield play in Greeneville last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was something of a rotation in the outfield.  Though I'm sure Iorg and Flores will get more playing time than the other 3.

I don't know what Pankovits is complaining about.  The only major question mark in the offense is Hart.  That offense could score a lot of runs.

I was kind of surprised Ryan Reed made the roster here.  I would assume he would get the least playing time of the bunch.

"Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits said Sean Walker will be taking Sergio Perez's spot in the Avalanche starting rotation until Perez recovers from the groin pull that forced him out of Wednesday's game in the first inning."

Flores seems to be doing better this year.  Is that really the case, or is it just one of those things where stats are belying the truth?

Some roster moves and injury news:

Quote
Pitcher Evan Englebrook, a 6-foot-8 right-hander, will rejoin the Avalanche today, Pankovits said. Englebrook went 9-4 with a 3.31 ERA for Salem last season, starting 10 games and relieving in 26. Englebrook has spent this season in the Houston Astros' extended spring training camp, Pankovits said. ...

Ole Sheldon started the game at first base, but came out midway through the second inning with a strained latissimus dorsi muscle in his back, Pankovits said.

"It was bothering him before the game and got progressively more sore as he swung," Pankovits said. He had no guess how much recovery time Sheldon would need.
