Title: Where to watch Astros games in Austin and Who Will Start on April 7
Post by: WTFisTerryPuhl on March 28, 2007, 09:35:25 am
Ok, I am pretty much the luckiest guy in the world. I met a girl that is smoking hot, great in bed and is obsessed with the Astros. I was wondering if there are any places in Austin where 'Stros fans get together to down a few and watch the games. I've been lurking on this site for years....back to the Kev & Scott days and finally decided to post. Second part, we have tix to the April 7th game against the Terdinals and I was wondering if Garner was planning on skipping a spot in the rotation since it is the first week and there is an off day. If he does, then Roy O. should be starting on the 7th. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I'm not an Austinite so I can't help you there, but as far as Garner's plans for the week 1 rotation, he hasn't announced anything. Though in the past couple year's he's kept his starters on regular rest at the beginning of the season, so I don't see why he wouldn't do that this year. And considering that Wandy is pitching Saturday, I'd guess Garner sticks with a four man group the first time through putting Roy against the Cards on Saturday.

You mean Wandy on Friday in Game 4 of the season?

There's an entertaining group of alcoholic professors/UT staffers(??) who regularly watch Astros games at The Posse East on the corner of 29th and Duval...

Have they reopened the Tavern?

Yep. That would be my suggestion. I didn't go watch any Astros games there last season, so  I'm not sure if it still attracts the same crowd. The place is very nice though, really similar to before but with some great additions.

In the past, TWC shows about 150-155 of the Astros games each year on some channel.  For those rare few untelevised games, I am looking for a sports bar in Austin that can get the visiting team's TV feed.

Anyone know of a place that has MLB extra innings or some other package which allows them to get those games?  I've been here 7 years and have yet to find one that has games I can't get at home.

Such a package doesn't exist. If you are blacked out or unable to receive, bars and restaraunts are too.

I haven't been to The Tavern since it re-opened. I am definitely going to check it out again. Has anyone been to Third Base on W 6th? I drove by it yesterday and it looked pretty nice.

Woodrow's (either loc) has a lot of TVs and gets Extra Innings.

I love the North location (Parmer and McNiel).

Any excuse to go to Posse East is a good one.  That place got me through law school... or lowered by GPA by a half-point, one of the two.  What was I saying?

I was always more of a Crown & Anchor fan. Good for playing darts and eating cheap burgers. No so good for watching ballgames.

Legends up at 183 and Mopac ain't bad, either.

I also watched Game One against the Braves (both 04 and 05) at Dave & Buster's. Good mojo there.

I was going to post the exact same thing.  Much better bar, but Posse is better for baseball watching.

The parking at Posse is terrible though.  Does DoubleDave's let customers of other places park in their lot?

Tonight, the best place to watch the Astros in Austin is qactually in Round Rock, but also worth mentioning is Pluckers on 183.

I'm not sure about Double Dave's.  I used to live a few blocks away, so we'd always walk.
I've had friends meet us there, and they'd just park at the coffee place across Duval if they couldn't find a meter.

When going to Posse it's best to park in that little UT lot across the street. It's kind of hidden, but plenty of spaces.

Extra Innings will not get you any additional Astros games though.

Man you guys are making me miss Austin. Crown & Anchor and Posse East helped me earn Maledictorian of my class. Can't help you with parking. I always walked there, even when I owned a car--I have accepted the fact that pitchers of shiner don't make me a better driver.

It's true.  If you can't find a spot right there on 30th, that UT lot behind the engineering buildings is large and regularly empty.

I know. But there are some poor bastards that have the misfortune of following other teams.

Has anyone heard anything about who will start Saturday, April 7th in the team's 5th game of the year?
