Title: Tigers-Twinkies
Post by: austro on October 06, 2009, 08:07:46 pm
Pretty exciting game. But why on earth wasn't the Twins' runner standing on third base as soon as he saw the ball in the air? That little delay going back to third was the difference between scoring and getting tagged out.

And when the Tigers had 1st and 3rd, 1 out in the 9th, why did the runner on 1st move towards 2nd on the liner and get doubled off?

This game has been great to watch. I can't make up my mind who to pull for - former Astros on the Tigers and UT ex skipper for the Twins - but this is a very exciting back-and-forth battle.

Only thing I can think of is that it was a rocket and he went on instinct, but if that's the case it was the wrong instinct.

Gunning down a lumbering Cabrera at the plate on a chopper to 2nd with the bases loaded and one out? This is a HELL of a fun game to watch.

No kidding! How many times can the Twins escape?

Amazing. I don't really think they've got much of a chance against the Yanks, but I'm really happy for the Twins.

It looks that way on paper, but if Mr. May holds true to form...

The aftermath of this is great. The cheering fans, the high-fiving laps by the players, this is great stuff for a team that was in a deep hole just two weeks ago. I love baseball.

I feel badly for Detroit. Blew it in the final game.

...and over the last three weeks. Tough way to get to the offseason.

An outstanding game. I've always liked the Twins, but I've found myself really getting into it these last couple weeks. This game was a microcosm of their season/team character in a way.

By the way, did anyone else watch this online using the TBS/MLB postseason.tv? Really bizarre, with several different set camera angles to choose from, but not a simple "TV feed" option as with regular mlb.tv. Very frustrating, and I even had two different computers with three different angles going at one point.

Up seven games in the final month of the season, and up three games with four to play in the regular season.  And led twice in game 163.

That horrible misplay in the 10th by Rayburn didn't help either.   Both teams made mistakes, both left the door open for each other...but the Twins win, and the Metrodome stays open for just a little longer.  Postseason scheduling could get interesting again.  I'm pulling for the Twins no matter what happens, and the Rockies.  Fuck the Janks.

Raburn whiffed on the sliding catch, but then it looked like Grandersen was backing him up but somehow let the ball scoot by him for the triple.

I don't know where Granderson was positioned before the hit but he couldn't catch up to it before it rolled to the wall.

Another gripe I have about postseason.tv is there are no replays, at all. My initial impression was that he was maybe too close behind Raburn and just missed the ball as it went by him, but I'm not sure.

The SI jinx lives on!

EDIT:  I guess I should say the legend of its jinx lives on.  That "Righteous Franchise" tag their editors put on it probably didn't help.

I'll bet the turf at the Metrodome plays pretty fast, too...another thing to keep in mind when parceling out blame for missed plays...

Good to see Everett playing. Horrendous umpiring behind the plate.

I think that is why I was hoping for Detroit to pull it out, in the end.
